Last June, a nine-year-old Indian girl was married to a dog near Calcutta after a priest told her parents the wedding would ward off evil.

Thats more disturbing.

Thats exactly why I'm disturbed by it, I don't know enough to see the reasoning about it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif But, I'll find it odd and not go out about it and say they're all strange or something.

Just... I'd say I find it weird since I don't know about their beliefs.

In the past, if a woman was supposed to married a man in an arranged marriage, and if the man died before the marriage, the woman were to marry into the family anyway, and ... I heard in one case she had to marry a rooster.

.... I don't think they are doing it now, and I sure they don't anymore. :/

there's no real reasoning except that people are just still superstitious. that's it

in some hindu based cultures, women still throw themselves in their dead husband's funeral pyres. this is called sati. and it's a virtuous act on the part of the woman.
