GC: 3rd Party Memory Card?

Where exactly does the 3rd Party memory card screw up in PSO? Like... when does saving become a problem?

I remember on the DC I used a 3rd party memory card, and I just had to format my Memory Card and it worked like a 1st Party Memory card, but I was never online... some connection there?

Is online where the 3rd Party Memory Cards screw up? Cause I'd be interested in buying an AR to try out some character models, and since I can't take them online (Wouldn't want to), would they be good offline only? Sorry if I made this sound confusing x_X

From the little bit ive heard, apparently third party cards compress the saves, since while they say theyre a 56, they can hold that, but are really less, while official cards actually have that physical space, so no compressing.
