Okay, we all know that FKL is going down the drain, or at least acording to the people who have been in FKL for awhile. Just by readind and examining things here and there, I think I might know why. Somewhere I believe it's people wanting to be in the FKL community, but not knowing how to do stuff that is appreciated. So, I've made a bit of FKL philosophy. I would like anyone who thinks FKL is declining to add something if it isn't said, or to say if they disagree with a certain point and why. Some of this has already been pointed out by me in other threads, but i think it's better I put it in one thread, and have everyone examine it. After all, if you don't want FKL to decline, don't wine, try to help fix the problem. Ok, here it goes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the topic of Spam:
FKLers don't typically like just plain old spam. Now when I say "spam" I mean something that helps nothing important in any way. If you say "I'm hungry," and that's all you say, and your not in a post about being hungry or not, it does not contribbute, and is spam. Now FKL spam is still spam, it's just in the topic, and done mostly because it's funny, amusing, or can seem so to others. It can be sort of complicated in a way. Let me explain. If you actually read some of the better posts here in FKL, you'll find that they have a base in most circumstances, wether it's an old user, or a qoute off a show, or maybe a picture. A lot of the veterans don't just make posts all the time with only a few random letters in their first topic post, it's just not funny, but a picture of a hotel with "Hello Hotel" in lights, but with the "o" blown out, is a lot funnier than just "SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM."
Look at it this way:
funny = complicated
spam = stupid
funny spam = complicated stupidity

On the subject of roleplay
Okay, anything you put in actions, such as between ** is actually roleplay, unless you are refering to what you are doing in real life. For example *is eating ramen* when you are actually doing so, is not roleplay. However, if someone says *steals your ramen and eats it* the subject has now entered roleplay, because that never happened. Now their are certain morals to roleplaying, but some are not of concern in FKL, there is one that i find is a biggie though.

If you are acting in accordance to something, you cannot change what was done, you must play along with it, and find away around it.
Example

Person A: *binds and gags Person B with rope*

Person B: *slips knife out of sleeves and saws through the rope, then gets the rope that's in his mouth off. Finally getting up and pummeling Person A to death*

Note that when someone says "to death," you can interpret it literally or as a phrase. However, godmoding (acting invincible or all-powerful) of this sort is frowned upon.

Person A: *Punches Person B, making him fly into a wall*

It's just not funny or entertaing. Now if you were gonna do it using some movie cliche, it would probably be aceptable.

It may not seem like it, but FKL has a lot of roleplay than one would think.

One other thing, the A-DTPA, and DTPA:
This is actually a roleplay group kind of thing, and it's fun so long as you don't look at it that way. The DTPA is short for "Death To Pants Association." Their goal is to rid the world of pants and all pants factories, mainly the ones in China. The A-DTPA is their enemy, as you can probably guess, it means Anti Death To Pants Association. Their gole is basically to stop the DTPA as much as possible, and let people wear pants. One can also choose nutral, and not join any side. The is one neutral side however called the "Duck Party" but most people fail to recognize it and even I don't know what it stands for.

Yet some other things about FKLers:
Okay, here's some things you might want to know about people in FKL.

Uncle_bob= is everyones uncle
Allos= leader of DTPA
Ness= common user of "......" using it means you are liable to tortues http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
Ketchup= leader of A-DTPA
Dime= a user that made good jokes, but was banned

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that's all I have to say for now. Anybody else care to say something, point out what you think is wrong about this, ect.?

EDIT: On a side note, try not to get your quote and edit buttons screwded up, tis a pain in the ass, especially with big posts like this :/ ...damn, friggen, no good, dirty, low down...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you that have actually ventured this far back through the landfill the following was added a couple years after this thread as a conveniant copy-paste refrence:

I may or may not agree with your complaint about any person or group of people. However, one thing that is strongly disagreed with is any action, comment, or implication that anyone should leave the PSOW forums or not have the right to post for speaking their mind before or after your topic/post about subject matter that is within the PSOW forum rules.

Such statements can be interpreted as a violation of the PSOW forum rules under sections "Attitude," "Personal Feuds/Wars/Agendas," and/or "Trolling/Flamebaiting." It is also possible that it violates other rules under other sections as well. Punishments may include your topic/post being locked, moved, changed, or even completely deleted. At the very least you will most likely get one text based warning.

Should your topic/post be locked, changed, moved or deleted; and/or you recieve a text warning, an official warning, or are suspended or banned, do not bother to complain to the staff. They have every right to enact whatever punishment they wish for any offence. When you join the forums and post you agree to follow the rules set down. Bugging the staff may actually make your situation worse.

Not reading the rules or pleading ignorance is not an excuse. This is (ironically,) also stated within the rules.

Yea, don't try to blatantly TRY to be like someone from FKL. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif Using quotes and whatnot is fine, but don't go as far as actually making a name similar to theirs and making copies of their signature. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

And before you hop on Uncle's sack about his Dime immitating: It's just a joke to bring back memories of the old days. ;x Uncle isn't actually wanting to act like Dime or wanting to BE Dime.

And don't just post something like http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/spam.gif about 50 times in a topic. It's not funnay or clevar. It's not even wittay.

EDIT:

After typing this it got me thinking. Do not come into FKL and try to make a new faction. The politcal parties in FKL are the DTPA, A-DTPA (name copying bastards!), Neutral, and the not officially recognized "Duck Party".

what do you think i asked veterans to read for? To give points like that if i missed them, so don't ask me about it, just say it if you thinks that's the case. Though i think it's possible to have lots of spam topics and still be funny, so long as what happens in them is funny.

Welcome to FKL etiquette by Sord.

If Frink approves, then this might make a good sticky to keep people from flinging trash and spam everywhere.

If you want to slow down the flood of new spammers then there are a few things that you could do:

1) Stop mentioning FKL outside of FKL, it draws people's intrest.
2) Make Ketchup stop telling every new person in the lounge about FKL.
3) Put up the sign!

erm... no offence man, but imo, you haven't been doing so well yourself :/ I'm not telling you to get out of here, I can't stop you from posting here, but it is just that you have made little to none on the improvement of FKL imo. You might say, what is improvement? In this case, improvement is what the mass wants, and you are one out of maybe two or three that think FKL is getting better, and there are a lot more others than two or three people who thinks the place has gone down. It's just part of soceity, what the mass thinks, is often percieved as right, unless something has been forced upon a people for generations (like christianity, i'm not bashing it here, just using the British and Spanish and what not forcing native americans into christianity.) Hence "in this case."

Insanity:

All members have the right (And honour, may I add) to be insane; however, One cannot use the title "Completely Insane" or a poor rendition of this title (eg. Insane man, Most insane, King of Insanity etc.).
Also, one cannot be crowned King of all things insane until Amiadon, current most insane member on PSOW, expires (Which, may I remind you, cannot be done in Role-play or IRL, so consequently never).
Stealing of famous quotes stolen in the first place by Amiadon cannot be stolen again, for example 'I'll take "lesbian android overtures" for $100, Alex!' or "Come here, I'm gonna stick it in!".
Faliure to comply with any of these rules will result in execution by Amiadon, who has forgotten how to spell his name and his thoughts have suddenly became porcupines in the watermelon tub. He will probably not be able to anyway. Execute you, I mean.

Here is my take on this so-called "FKL decay".
If you've been here a while you've probably noticed there is a cycle. "FKL is going down the drain", "FKL is turning into shit", "FKL is getting worse", "Oh, FKL got a little better", "FKL is going down the drain".

Take this into account. FKL in itself would seem too good to be true for many forum goers, as a way to perhaps ease tension or just act silly with less (note, less) emphasis on seriously structured and relevant posts. Those who begin to post in FKL, even those who have been PSOW members for a while, are often "off" what would be considered by many "good use of FKL". This principle can be carried in many directions, however. Quest, Mag and Section ID "vets" may not do quite as well in Fanworks, on the average, without spending some time there to get used to the different communities and groups within that section. Likewise, Fanworks might not bode as well in Quest, Mag, and Section ID. Not because they know less, but because of the possibility they are just not as used to the community.

The way I see it, FKL has been pretty much the same overall since I first came here, but I know myself that I made what would now be considered awkward posts, or stupid posts. That is due to the fact that I was just not quite used to how the community functioned and what sort of unwritten behaviors were true to the meaning and purpose of the particular board.

What exactly is "ruining" FKL? There will always be posters new to FKL, whether they be new members, lurkers, or older members, and different things can happen. Either they get bored of random five letter posts and saying CHEEZ, or they take part in the humorous antics that can result. Just keep in mind that if anything it can be more difficult to adapt to the "ways of FKL", because the potential drop in seriousness could be handled incorrectly in anticipation, and a good number of the humor and jokes within FKL are either inside jokes or obscure and hidden within what is said. Admit it.

So, I say do what I do. Sit down, and ride the ride that is FKL. The needs of FKL are secondary to all else on PSOW. We, the posters of FKL, whether new or old, must do our part to maintain it ourselves, correctly and fairly, whichever way that may be.

Pretty nice guidelines, Sord. They highlight some good points.

Glad you're here, you cover several of my points.

It's a trash forum, TRASH. People are free to post whatever they want, as long as they don't break any rule.
There is no other point to FKL besides moving in pointless topics from other sections.

Get over it, FK is not your playground, make you own boards if you want to be so specific about it.

Heh.
I gave up truely caring a while back, but that doesnt mean that FKL is not, to some extent, "our playground".

I have personally seen the unique brand of justice applied to those who clutter the forum with needless crap... It mostly took the form of indirect flaming.

Since Abdur banished these acts (and rightly so) it has turned into a sort of cold arrogance that drives most unwanted posters away.

This place was created to be a junk pile, but it has developed into something far different. Personally, i dont agree with the exclusive nature of some FKLers, as most Vintage Bradicus posts make me shudder.

Ah! SO FKL is like the mystery meat. You leave it in the fridge, and it turns into something alive.

Actually I think I was just bored one day.
I've yet to escape long enough to do much in Fanworks anymore. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Sord makes very good points, and so do the rest of the Vets.

One thing I find difficult in posting in FKL is matching everyones sense of humor. Meaning, what I sometimes find hilarious is just a big bore to some of you.

Funny thing about FKL is that, its charming, it draws you in because of its simplicity. My god, look at my info, Im more active in FKL than anywhere else. Which makes me laugh, because, Im very serious and neutral.

FKL has let me unwind, free myself, and relax. And sometimes Ill post something that makes no sense whatsoever, and I wont worry about it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

And I will apologize to anyone who believes I have posted wrongly here.

By no means do I consider myself a vet or an equal to any vet here, but given time, I will discover the secret of been funny while I am within the confinements of FKL.

Some of you know me, some dont, but might recognize me from that awesome thread "the person above me..." awesome, because to me, it showed that FKL can pull itself together and actually accomplish something (whatever that something maybe, its not important) I mean look at it, its simple, stupid, spam bait, and I has beat many of the other serious threads in psow.

And to those who are leaving, you will be missed, but FKL will go on one way or another.

I am also the Dictator of FKL.

I don't think Dime was that funny, but that's just me.

The Duck Party was not officially recognized, was chased out, and possibly killed, not my idea.

Allos is also the FKL national defense army's General.

Zane is FKL's Vice President.

Kafka is the FKL Judge, and there is a 7 member Congress (lazy, but they're there, hmm, maybe they'll do something if I cut their pay of @).

Join the A-DTPA!!!

The leader of fresh kills endorses the a-dtpa, making the FKL national defense army's General, Allos, consider if he is working for the right person.

But Allos only uses the FKL defense army if told (especially since some of the members of the army are in the A-DTPA; FKL does have a conscripted army remember). If he tried using it against me, there would be a battle like the one in the end of Shakespear's Macbeth (own army turning against him).

I noticed this too... this topic was created not long ago and newcomers tend to post new threads rapidly... which is a reason why this topic couldn't catch my eye... since I tend to post in HOT TOPICS (Top 5 topics)...

I remember posting in FKL for almost a year now (including the 4-5 month break in-between), I don't remember when the large amount new people started posting here... or the copy-cats came into this landfill. I bet most new people don't even know what FKL stands for...

Even when I spam... it's aiming to be interesting... not dumb... (The 50 Cent topic is now MINE! MWAHAHA).
I would like some topics to stay alive. But newcomers tend to ruin them and send them down to the Low-Down of the forum board.

...Wierd.

In any case... this was spam.

well, even if this may not fix all problems, maybe at least newcomers will read this and hopefully pay attention to it. Now we need to get Frink to either sticky this, or else we will need to bump a topic for the longest period of time in FKL history.

i frequent all the boards usually, but i usually don't post. Not to say that i know exactly how this place works as i wade through all this, but i just think its odd that this forum in particular seem to be controlled by a few regulars.

oh and by the way
"spamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspamspam":spam::spam:???
seems excessive.

yeah i'm not internet savvy and i didnt understand the concept of spam until i came to this place, but i never did that kinda stuff.

Only thing that comes to my mind as to why someone would just repeat "spam" for a post or topic, is because they've got nothing else to type.

Let's all use are brains and rebuild this place. If it needs rebuilding...

Yeah. It's a lot of fun. I don't remember them much myself because I didn't post here. I did look at a lot of the posts, but I never thought of replying. What we've got now is fun though. There seems to be a spike.

Pixel_Toa, what kicked this off a few days ago were several threads that contained nothing other than the words "spamspamspamspamspam," all of wich were pointless and seen as less than amusing by many people according to this thread.

That and Vets quiting (what the heck is up with that?) and 4 new people coming in each day was bugging some people.

Nice use of the "_" in your name....FEEL THE POWER OF THE _!
