This would be handy. I hate acidentally calling someone a girl when they ar a boy (or vice versa) just beacuse I don't have the time to look at their profile.

Some people are anonymous anyways, it's really not a big deal since such mistakes are made and the vast majority of users don't mind either way.

Also Lolli has made it clear that there aren't any girls on the internet, so you should just refer to everyone as male anyways. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Yep, we're all just guys that like to write ourselves off as girls http://www.housoka.com/images/emoticons/themes/bow/wacko.png

As with the topic, I think it's a good idea too. I set my own board up that way for pretty much the same reason.

it's a good idea as long as there is an "anonymous" option.

Heres what you should have

Sex:
[ ] Male
[ ] Female
[ ] Undisclosed
[ ] Yes Please!

The 4th answer is a trick question and should be used to stop morons joining the site.

Does it really matter that much if someone is male or female? And if so why? I mean if it's for the reason you said, what's wrong with a generic term that addresses both anyway?

The gender-neutral pronouns tend to sound... impolite. I certainly wouldn't appreciate being called an "it".

Well, I didn't mean calling someone an it of course. You can always address someone by their site name no?

That gets to sounding pretty weird though: "I saw Siris yesterday. Siris said "Hi". I asked Siris what Siris' favorite weapon was. Siris said......" you get the idea...

Understandable, but I look at it differently I guess. I'm female and people can usually tell that about me from my posting mannerisms. I however, don't mind if people know my gender. If you want to know someones gender you can always click on the persons profile to look. If it's not listed there it is because they choose to remain anonymous and I think that everyone should have that right. I just don't understand the big deal about the gender thing. It just feels awkward sometimes. And Ted, I think if you know a person well enough to address them the way you would in your example you would know them well enough to add a "he, she, her, him" in the appropriate places right? Then there's always PM's, if you really wanna know you could always ask the individual.

I dont really care if im called a girl because i would know it is a mistake, but one way you could make sure is to just post using "He/She" instead of "He" and "She". i think the He/She concept is a good way to solve all those problems.

if there's one thing loli taught me here, it's that no girls play video games.

What are these, "girls" you speak of?

On a more serious note:

That does sounds like a good idea though, Kuda. Searching for gender is bad.

See this is what I'm talking about. Is there a need to do this? Do you need a to post hoard this bad? This kind of stuff needs to stop now.
