Gold....or not to Gold?!

I am a custom figure maker. I am a little stumped. I only have one Vegeto figure, to use for my project.

The figure is not a super saiyan model. But I would like to make it seem so. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

To do this I would like to use Gold plate paint. But I am afraid the gold over black will look....ugly. Should I do it {seeing as I have never really painted over black before} or not?!
