Well, after recent server updates, it seems people with PAL PSO that play it in 50Hz are really screwed over.

The PAL manual actually says that people playing with a 50Hz signal can not access any US or JP ships. This was incorrect, as we tested it and it worked fine, anywhere in the world, on a 50Hz signal.

Then these "upgrades" came along. Now it seems that the manual is correct. But it gets worse than that.

Not only are PAL 50Hz players locked out of all the US and JP ships, but they are also locked out of all the standard ships!!!!
So what the hell do they do? Well, SoE was kind enough to provide another ship, Mimas, to the EU region. This ship used to be accessible by PAL players, while still leaving all the other ships available too. Now however, Mimas is all they get, if they are using 50Hz.

No access to anything else in the US, JP, or EU range... no guild card searches will work... nothing, nada, zip. Just this one lonely ship, that ONLY other PAL 50Hz players can use. Bit of a lonely and sad game then.. with every single person you meet online only there wondering how long 'til they can get off this thing...

So PAL players.. try it out, I wanna see some more results. Just select 50Hz at the start, and report back!

I use a 50Hz screen, and thanks be praised I have the US version.

Please SoE... no more "fixing" things.

Yeah took me a while to work out what Mimas was. My mate kept saying it was in his options but I never saw it because I always run 60 Hz. Now he runs 60hz he says he can't get on it so I guess you're right. It's a shame.

Well, it seems that not only did Sega stop us from using our own ISPs, and decided not to bring version 2 over here, they have to screw us over one more time. >_<

I play in 60Hz, but I think I'll be playing in 50Hz occasionally to visit the people who are stranded on that lonely ship...

An alternative TV standard. You use NTSC in America. PAL is the standard in Europe and a lot of other parts of the world. It's slightly superior to NTSC (it has better resolution for improved definition), but is one of the main excuses used by companies about why they take so long to convert titles for our shores.

I know of a few people on the PAL PSO who ARE using their own ISP! Try it! Just because many PAL online games don't work with it, try PSO!! It should work. OMG>. what if they "fixed" that too!!!

Another point to make.

The browser disk that came withour European Dreamcasts DON'T have the ability to let us change our ISPs. Remember all those requests from England asking if anyone knew how to change the ISP?

Well, thanks to a friend of mine, he used his CD-burner to make a Planetweb browser for me, and thus, I was able to change it. This is where the problem lies. If you don't have a CD-burner, and don't have a friend who has one, you're gonna have problems with your phone bill.

Oh well. At least Sega did good in the fact that PSO got to England. ^_^;

Hmm, it shouldn't have been neccessary for them to do that. The game was working fine with 50hz players and US + JP ships. The 50hz thing is only a display setting right? What does this have to do with gameplay?

Actually, hmm, the more I think about it ... Maybe it was neccessary. If the game is running at 50hz, it only gets 50 cycles for game type stuff too, right? Not just display. So, if a player was playing at 50hz while the US and JP players play at 60hz. His/Her game would probably get more out of sync than PSO already gets with 60hz players playing together. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif
