ok, so the end of school is here, and i'm not at shool when the lockers were cleaned out. about 2 hours before i went to get my stuff in fact.

so now, i have lost:

a binder, with about 70 drawings in it
5 sketchbooks, 3 of them full 200 pagers and the other two full 100s.

i looked in the trash and recovered a few. (2)

why me?! god!

870 pages of irreplacible work carelessly thrown away.

i'm gonna go cry now. >XO

They just threw it all away? Didn't they think that maybe just maybe you wanted to keep all that stuff and were otherwise engaged?
They should of held it all back a little while instead of just chucking it out like that... Morons, The lot of them.

Where in the heck did they go? Do any of your friends have it? Do any of your teachers have it?

They cleaned out your locker? The heck!?

They couldn't touch our lockers until after the school year ended. You sure that's policy?

Oh... you mean you missed the time they wanted you to clean it out?

That sucks, dude. I get really angry if even the slightest thing happens to my drawings, so I know how you feel.

Jeez that sucks... I keep all my arwork at home, and even if I did bring sketchbooks they wouldn't fit. Why the heck would they be so careless as to throw out your stuff!? Were they even looking at what they threw in the garbage!? I feel for you... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Better yet, if you can do it without breaking your back, use your booksack AS a locker! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Ouch, that indeed does bite majorly. No one should be throwing away your stuff without your consent. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Having said that, it is now time to look for the (possible) bright side of this situation! Sure, you may not have those drawings anymore, but I bet they were excellent practice nonetheless. Sometimes I feel kind of tied down by my past work; maybe this can represent a new start for you? I realize there are probably at least a few pieces you truly adored in those sketchbooks, yet I would wager you can do an ever better job now. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I guess it could have been worse. It could have been every single picure you have drawn

But I guess you could dig around in the dumpster

My art is my art....if someone touches/destroys it, that'd pretty much be like cutting off a limb or two. So in that sense.....they'd be staring at one very pissed-off individual. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif

I drew this medium sized poster drawing of Gogeta in my art class in Junior year....it took two class-periods to finish. If someone would have thrown it away while she set it aside for grading....I'd have gone postal and more than likely gotten into some trouble. I now have it on my wall though. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

Bottom line: stab anyone who touches your art. Cuz you never know if it'll be worth something to you/others someday. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Backpack idea doesn't work. XP My highschool, backpacks/bookbags/etc weren't allowed in the classroom. Period. They had to be in your locker at all times. Stupid, ain't it.

Lesson here is

Never use a locker

Never leave things till too late

Never take anything of value to school and leave it about

In fact best yet stop going to school!

In theory, I believe that was a rule at my high school.

I think it lasted for a few months.

The best part was that in senior year, since I lost the lock to my locker and didn't feel like buying another one (since they made half of us buy our first one anyway), I just dropped my number of books down to no more than two. My general purpose notebook, and maybe a textbook on some days.

Forget bookbags, I was rocking the "too cool for school" look, yo.

(I really like putting yo at the end of my sentences recently... I dunno.)

Dang...I've known quite a few artists, and each and every one would respond just like Darth FOmar said.
But since it's the public education system, you're better off just rising to power then destroying your hometown.

Unless your school isn't in your hometown. Then you've got two cities to destroy, and that gets kind of messy. Fun, but messy.

Anyway, my sympathies on the missing art.

You may not believe this...but some of the people I had art 2 and 3 with would be more furious and vengeful than I. They *REALLY* take pride in what they do. If someone were to throw all their sketches away....I'm positive they'd be on a hunt for blood.

I wouldn't kill anyone....I'd just totally bitch them out. But, I cannot say the same for my art buds nor anyone else. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I can understand though how someone would feel, if they lost all that art.

Lets just say...you could probably compare it to loosing a lvl 130 well stocked character on PSO to FSOD. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

{loosing all that data....would just piss me off to the point of breaking the disc in half, setting it on fire, letting my dogs eat it, pulling it from their shit, then sending it to customer support: proclaiming...."Look what your FSOD does to my disc"} http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Advance appologies for going on a tangent, but I'm a bored young woman with internet access and a keyboard. What can I say?...

My art is my art....if someone touches/destroys it, that'd pretty much be like cutting off a limb or two. So in that sense.....they'd be staring at one very pissed-off individual.
I can understand the frustration of having someone destroy your art, but personally I believe that the physical paper/canvas/etc is vastly less important than the process of creation. Not that I don't like to sometimes look back on older work to see how far I've come (or how disgusting all the older stuff is >_<) but I'd rather being doing than dwelling. The tangible product is nothing compared to its source. Ultimately, you can tear up, burn, or lose a piece of paper, but there is no way someone can extinguish creativity and the will to create.

Bottom line: stab anyone who touches your art. Cuz you never know if it'll be worth something to you/others someday.
I don't think it's a matter of how "valuable" it could be in the future. It was valuable when you created it; it is valuable now; and it continues to be valuable whether or not you can physically touch or hold it.

I shy from making any judgments as to the true nature of "artists"; the danger here is infinitely too great, and such a statement would be exceedingly arrogant. I speak only from my own feelings on the subject, and if the replies to this thread are in any way representative of general sentiment, I guess I'm in the minority. Maybe I'm not inclined to anger? Pfft I wish.

In any case, you have my sympathies once again, but I hope this particular loss won't discourage you in any way from continuing to draw. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

But then what proof do you have of creation?! Ultimately something else can be created, but for portfolios....employers and the like; assume to see past experience throughout your life...they want to see what some of your older to date art skills lacked/thrived from. So old sketches are a must for anyone interested in going to Art Colleges/pursing artistic careers *believe me...I know....I applied for Art Institute Online....they require several different types of artistic portfolios, etc*.

Loosing any art is unconventional....keep as much as possible....because like I said "You never know if it will be worth something to you/others one day". And by *worth* I mean of sheer importance {not really dollar wise}. A good portfolio is worth more than words to any employer or college registration scout *err...whatever you wanna call them people*. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Ditto. Besides, we all want to keep the art in case we want to look at the pieces again, or if we want to edit or revamp stuff. I still have old photomanips of mine, and sometimes I'll go back and redo one and see if I can do it better. I also keep all the original files since it makes sig making a whole lot easier to do.

Indeed, though I assumed FOAtHeart lost sketchbooks, not portfolio-caliber work and that she was rather young, perhaps mistakenly. It didn't occur to me that one would leave such valued things in one's locker, a notoriously unsafe place. I guess we know what happens when you assume.

I wouldn't dispute this, and I most certainly did not intend to intimate anything contrary to this. Oh well, misunderstandings abound on all sides, I suppose.

Well, I stand by my previous statements. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif It would seem I was approaching the topic from a more philosophical stance, whereas you saw it in a different light. No matter.

Strangely enough I have left my binder with my very valuable art sketches/final products in my locker *when I had one* but not all year. Oh god if I lost that how totally vigilantee I'd want to be. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
