What idiot came up with CARPET?! Think about it. It's cloth, permanently stuck to the ground. It's a pain in the ass to clean, it never stays its true color for more than a month or so, it's painful if you fall on it or move around on it the wrong way and it's a breeding ground for spores, mold, and germs.

Tile > carpet.

Thats why there are different kinds and styles of carpet?

Falling on tile is worse than falling on carpet, but then either way you're falling on a hard object, so it's not going to feel good obviously.

I myself would like my room to be entirely tiled. Smooth floor, tiled walls, and ceiling. Only because then it'd be easier to dust and clean instead of this damn drywall. >=

Oh well!

Just give me metal walls and floors and ceilings. I lived in a place like that once and No it wasn't a navy ship.

I only hate carpet when it gets all old and loose's its 'springiness'. It sucks to walk on old, hard carpet, as im sure the point of carpet is to soften your footsteps and make your feet comfortable.

Oh, and horrible patterned carpet. I hate that nasty brown stuff you can get with all the swirly orbs and feather patterns on *shudders*.

Oh man...

That reminds me of the time I was sitting on this computer and the phone rang....

Little did I know my mom had just mopped the floor, so I go running into the kitchen *which is just in the other room* and as I turn from the entrance of the door......all of a sudden I fall sideways and then, BAMM!!!!

I begin to feel sudden urges of pain...and, oh look someone mopped, I must have fallen onto the hard kitchen floor while running towards the annoying ringing phone. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

I never knew the floor could be used as a weapon to kill your children. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Tile alone would suck.. if anything besides carpet, I would go with wood flooring.

tile everything? metal everything? dear god! talk about accoustical nightmares! have you ever heard music in a heavily tiled or metal room? the pain!! sound endlessly deflecting from all over creating false notes, echoes, and floating pitch. a nightmare! oh god!!!

i don't like carpet becuase i'm lazy about vacuuming and all, but i can only take tile or metal for so long in a house. then you need to go parquet (pronounced like the butter brand, par'kay) http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif wood floors or pergo. and then there's this really cool new way to do carpeting! they do it like linoleum tile squares! so if you spill something you can pull it out and plop another in it's place. so cool!

ps: i don't know about anyone else but did you ever get the urge to buy one of those linoleum tile squares and just plop it randomly on the public sidewalk? i do. i just wanted to write something like a big smiley on a tacky-ass patterned linoleum tile square and plop it onto sidewalk on an intersection.

(First Paragraph)
I actually like the metal look, and I know this will sound crazy, but I like the way the sounds echo and reverb and all the other crazy stuff it does in there. I would actually play heavy metal REALLY LOuD in there just for the hell of it. (Maybe thats why I am screwwy in the head now http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif )

(Third Paragraph)
That sounds like a funny idea!

Hard wood flooring is my favorite, I definitely prefer it over carpet.

*rolls around on his hard wood floors*

Every room but the kitchen and bathroom...

But honestly, I wish I had at least one room with carpet.

I studied architecture in High School, and as a result, I actually know the answer to this one...

Carpetting was developed because it doesn't get incredibly cold or hot with the weather, so if you're going to be walking around barefoot, it'll be comfortable on your feet all year-round.

It's certainly an improvement over straw (or rather, "thresh"), which was used to cover the dirt before we figured out this "concrete" stuff. This is also, of course, where we get the term, "threshhold" (the device didn't originally seal external doors-- it held the straw inside).

http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif I was just about to point that out. While I am not a big fan on carpets, I love the hard wood floor I get now. Imagine it gets to -30 celcius in the winter, even with heat your wooden floor is still going to get cold. Unless you have luxurious in floor heating up the wood/tile whatever. You are not gonna like getting out of bed to walk to the bathroom.

And Metal everywhere is just not practical. It heats up and cool down too fast, not to mention the acoustic... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Well, that's fine then, Uncle. If you dislike carpet, then when you get a home, you can put down a hardwood floor, or Pergo, or something. There are always other options. Carpet's just popular because of its generally neutral temperature and the fact that it doesn't scuff when you drag furniture across it.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Anyhow, if you people like carpet, grood for you. But to Uncle, it just seems like an unsanitary, filthy breeding ground for bacteria and the likes of Richard Simmons. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Let's put it this way.
When I stumble into my friends house in the early hours of a sunday morning, not feeling so good (for obviouse reasons) and with the urge to go to sleep right away, I'd rather wake up the next morning on a carpet than on a hard cold floor.

No competition.
