Okay, this isn't as severe a rant as Uncle's "collective rant" but it does beg to be...um...ranted about.

For the past year in school, I get up every morning between 6 and 6:15 AM to get ready for school. And thanks to this, I've never been late for school.

Now, on weekends, I usually sleep in a bit, unless we're doing something. I love to sleep, but I prefer getting up around 9-ish, that gives me plenty of time to do all sorts of good stuff.

But of course, I always end up sleeping in untill 10, or 11. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif I've asked them to poke me awake around 9ish becuase I don't really want to set my alarm...but I'll probably end up doing that...

And my dad ALWAYS bitches about this. "Son, this is not healthy at all. Do you need to go see a doctor? A sign of going downhill is sleeping in", etc.

So, who's right? Is it me? Or my dad? I always read that teenagers should get as much sleep as they can...

Hey, don't knock it until you've tried it.

But seriously, though sleeping until 10 or 11 might seem early now, it's really nothing to worry about. Dude, I've spoken to you online in the wee hours of the morning... you should be sleeping in! How many hours of sleep do you get on those days anyway?

Sleeping in till 10am good. I never get up till that time. You'll love collage if you love sleeping heres a typical day

Sleep 3am - 1pm

Eat 1pm -2pm

Watch day time tv 2pm - 6pm

Nap 6pm - 8pm

Party 8pm - 3am

Sometimes you have to go to class but thats a rare and painful time.

Bob - No, I don't sleep in past 11 AM 99% of the time.

Outrider - Hmm. For instance, last night, I went to bed at about 4 (was playing Halo online XD), got up at about 11:30ish. So about the recommended 8 hours.

Armok - I can only hope CalPoly will be like that. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Er, meanwhile, I'm gonna see if I can find an official medical something-or-other that says sleeping in late isn't bad. Wanna help?

Parents are too fixated on the getting up early whatever. They don't realize that sleep is good for the body and the mind.

Unless, you go to bed at 22 and wake up the next day at 17, and do that everyday. Then maybe there is a problem. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Yep, probably. He's mostly angry, I think, becuase he doesn't believe in staying up late or sleeping in. He goes to bed at like 8 PM.

Whoa. 19 hours of sleep. Damn! @__@

I read about this weird disease where people literally sleep for like days and weeks. I feel sorry for them; it's hard for them to lead normal lives.

I think it boils down to this: fit your sleep in your own schedule.

If I have school/work/whateverelese that require you to get up 8 in the morning, go to bed latest by 23 if you want enough sleep.

If you don't NEED to be up by 8, go to sleep whenever you wish and get up when you have to. I mean, if you have a graveyard shift-type work are you supposed to get up at 8 and go to bed at 20 too? :/ That would be pointless.

Believe in whatever you believe in, don't force others.

Well, he does have a point, excessive sleeping and not wanting to get out of bed are signs of depression, but you said you didn't not want to get out of bed, so he is over reacting. Heh, on weekends I used to sleep until noon, but when I got my puppy and after 7 months of waking up with him at anywhere between 3-6 am, my body clock is seriously fuxed. Heh. Last night, after excessive gaming with a friend I went to bed at 5 am, and woke up by myself at 9. I went comatose for an hour (6-7pm) but that happened when I pulled my last PSO all nighter.

Hah, me depressed? Yeah, right.

I love life, and stuff. I like getting out of bed. Unless I'm feeling sickly, which isn't common. Wazzy is bursting with healthiness 99% of the time.

I once slept from 6 AM to 6 PM. I went to sleep at dawn when all my friends left my dorm room and woke up when everyone on the floor was going to dinner. That was one day to remember.

Too bad I was sleeping during it. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Uh.....I go to bed at about 6AMish daily. I'm constantly tired and I find it hard to stay awake at work. I'd suggest maintaining your regular sleep pattern. Also do let your father know that he should calmly and vigorously fuck himself for being suck a retard.

you are right, not your dad. studies have shown that teenagers need more sleep than all other age groups except babies. and not only that they need to stay up in the evenings and sleep through the day - bizarre but true, just the way humans were made. there are several sleep studies on this so you are welcome to do your own research and show it to your dad to silence him. and there's also several school programs out there that followed medical advice and now have high schoolers attending school around 9pm instead of 7 or 8am because of this extra sleep and more day sleep thing. i'm sure in your research you'll find a few of these schools as well, they'll help re-enforce your point.

so go ahead, sleep 'til 3pm if you want on the weekends, it ain't no thing. in fact if you aren't doing it you are abnormal!!! O_O

The daily minimum recommendations for sleeping are 10 to 10 1/2 hours sleep for children (below the age of 18) and 8 1/2 to 9 hours for adults. (above the age of 18). Regardless of sleep patterns, if you aren't getting the minimum recommendations of sleep every day, your health with gradually deteriorate. Your call http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Meh. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Dad decided to "wake me up earlier" today. So, he turns on my room light when he notices that I'm concious. Then...he leaves...

Two hours later, I finally do awaken. It's Noon. Dammit! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_rant.gif

Dad now won't let me go to visit my friend, claiming that I should just stay home if I've slept in so late...

Wazzy, dude... get used to sleeping in late. After a few wild nights (they happen during high school... just accept it) you'll be glad to sleep in. But if you do want to keep waking up at a certain hour, invest in an alarm clock, maybe? Or just tell your dad to make sure you actually leave your bed for when he "wakes you up." That's what I tell my parents sometimes when I have them wake me up.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa....is your dad an idiot?!

It is always a good thing to get as much sleep as possible, to have more energy throughout the day. Duh!!!

Eight hours is the minimum....ten or eleven is probably the maximum. Either way...get as much sleep as possible, but sleeping for 13-15 hours definitly isn't good. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Umm, yeah....sleeping for 15 hours is kinda unhealthy...it either means you are depressed or you are just plain pathetic/lazy. I've done it before, and I didn't like that way I felt when I woke up either. Ten hours is good sleep, sometimes it's eight. But 15 hours.......?!

I've heard of people working their asses off and never sleeping a minute over 12 hours. So a 15 hour sleep is definitly not a good thing mentally/physically. Plus on top of that....you'd waste the day away sleeping. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
