it's a carbonated beverage such as CocaCola, Pepsi, Sprite, Mountain Dew, Mr.Pibb ect.

It's due to all the freakin' CO2 you are sucking in... Of course it will make you sick... Like said, lack of oxygen is one of the results of this. Also, straws concentrate the CO2, unlike a glass, in which air does not properly mix into the liquid. Basically, don't drink soda with a straw... Or wine, beer, etc. As it gives similar results, only with drunkenness, stupor, and resulting in poisoning should you continue for too long.
