View Full Version : #1 Gamecube PSO Import Question...
Will the Japanese Gamecube modem work with a US Gamecube! I'm sure the game will work on a modded cube since other Japanese games do, and i know the controller will work, however the modem is another story... I don't see why it won't?
And please try not to give a bull shit answer, give me a definite answer, with a link if possible! Not just for me, but for everyone who plans on importing!

It'll work. Modems are the same thing, really. I'll try and get a link to prove that for you.

Well, look at any Spaceworld photo of the modem and you have your answer. Modems are the same regionally, so it's the same thing as the controller. It just sends the data.

Preach on Cube. I would also like 2 know if the Japenese modem will work. Is there a sure fire way 2 find out though???

It DOES work. They are the same build and modems don't have their own special memory system to have any way to tell the difference between a US or JPN GCN. And it's pretty certain the GCN would have no implemented form of protection against that.

Well, rest assured the only reason it wouldn't work is Nintendo is evil and went out of their way to stop happy happy fun fun from spreading into America before Japan.

Most modded Cubes are Japanese anyway, I thought. I know mine is. It definitely won't be a problem.

Wata, how is a modded GC japanese. I am sending my GC 2 be modded tomorrow, and mine is a US GC??? Do they send me a Jap GC and mod it 4 US games???

No, wata just has a habit of never buying US made products so he isn't used to the diea of something originating from the US http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif.
His JPN GCN was modded to play US games, that's his point there.
The Difference between the Japaneese and American Gamecubes is just one solder point. In the Japaneese Systems the point is left unsoldered (an open circut between the two points), and in the american one the two points are soldered together (closed circut). Seeing as though that is the only signifigant difference between the hardware (perhaps the power supply) there should be no real problem.
P.S. Fuck the modem, get the BBA http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Greg is right about the only difference being a solder point, so the fact of the matter is Nintendo CAN'T make it so the modem doesn't work since when the GC is in the region selected then it is psyhcally no different to if you bought that region of GC.
Btw even the power supply is the same.
Also pso comes in august, bba doesn't come till fall, so if people are importing bba isn't an option

You mean BBA till fall, right ?
True .. forgot about that.
No way I'll go through a console to PC modem set-up again.
I'll have to wait ...

The BBA is confirmed to work with the game and Nintendo will put it out shortly after the Japanese release.
Hardware has always been a universal thing (I used my 56K modem I got with my Japanese DC in replace of my 33.6K PAL one).

erm Japanese DC used 33k modem also, only US DC had 56k http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

I dunno about the JP BBA release date, but ironically the tenative release date for the US BBA is the same as PSO's release dateirthday http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
10/01/02!!

The one I got didn't come with my Japanese DC, it had to be bought seperately (it was second hand and had boxes for both as well as the original plastic block that came with the console - that fitted in the port originally). I was later told my console could have been bought from Hong Kong, because those ones didn't come with a modem (had to bought seperately).
And the box for the modem had 56K written on it, sooooooo... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
And the point still stands, when my PAL modem broke there was no problem using one bought in another region.
Yay!
THings look pretty good. Looks like the Modem will work with a Modded US Cube.
My only uncertainty is that PSO itself may not work, but I'm sure it will...
So im set! This is it! August 8th... so...far... away!

So Cube, why do u have a small feeling or uncertainess that PSO import wont work. What could happen or what might not let the import work on a modded GC???
Nendaiki
06-05-2002, 12:01 PM
He has good reason to be wary. We don't know enough about cube or have enough "special" support to make sure it works. The DC was a a lot easier to work with.

Yeah, I was unsure of getting V2 on the DC because of the problems with getting online, etc.
It was only when about 5 people here reported getting online with ease that I went ahead and imported. Never looked back, though...
Well, importing the Japanese DC v2 wasent so much of a worry since i KNEW you could play Japanese DC games without it being modded, plus the fact that i knew others who had imported it...
As for my beloved Gamecube, I'm not 100% sure. Nintendo has the tendency to make importing rather difficult...
However, I'm an optomist. And im quite sure it will work...
What im worried about is the registration and stuff that the game will load into the GAMECUBEs memory. PSO saved information on the DC itself, and im sure it will be the same with the Gamecube... It's very technical and that has gotten me a little worried... But oh well, if it for some reason does not work on a US modded Gamecube, ill sell mine and purchase a modded JP one.
But im sure it will work...
hopefully.

Cube...u are scarin me man. I have my trust in you, and u makin me worry...lol
Oh sorry lol, well it's always good to be cautious.
Don't worry though, im willing to bet that it will work. There's ALLWAYS a way how. Trust me.

Im trusting you, i just put in my pre-order. Im gonna use my wonderful fiance's CC and go all out. So Cube-ster. We never did get 2 battle in V2, i kept askin u, but im sure u was afraid of me...lol...so how about we go toe to toe when the import arrives...lol
Only one restriction when it comes to JP and US games on a modded system:
You can't save files of different regions on the same memory card. Plan on getting another card.
It's only $20 though. And PSO sucks up enough blocks that you'll probably need a new card anyways. Just thought you folks should know before cries of "WTF?" come about later on when you can't save on your card with US save files.
I imported PSO and PSOV2, but I think I'm going to be patient and wait this time around. I couldn't go online with PSO E1/2 anyways, since I'm on broadband now.
Really? My memory is very bad lol, Your name seemed so familiar but I wasent sure where you were from...
btw drop me a line on AIM: CubeGC
We battled twice quite awhile back.
First time, I got my ass handed to me.
Second go-around, I quickly learned your tactics from the first round, and it was a close match, though you still won by 4 points.
Heh, memories. We'll need to rematch someday.

Like how hard it is to import GBA games...
(no region differance at all between US and JP)
Parn!
Hehe, actually I remember your battle like yesterday... I think it was my first battle... either that or my first battle with the new battle modes...
Anywayz, I cant wait to 0wn j00 once again hehe.
And RBF... The JP GBA is awesome, but what about every other console... N64, SNES, GBC, etc.. you either had to get them modded or buy a device to play games, and most didnt even work... compared to the DC which played JP games as long as u booted with a GS or something.
