I use a HUnewearl and I met a guy a while back online, we played together many times and we always have lots of fun fighting through the forest and areas together.
He has always been very friendly and stuff. However, when he learned that i'm a guy in real life, BOOM all of a sudden he gets all quiet and distant.
What's up with that? I guess he assumed I'm a girl because of my HUnewearl. But hasn't anyone learn not to assume anything just from the character? Sigh I guess I lost an online buddie.
I'd like to know what everyone think of this and if you had similar experience b4. (Or if you actually did what this friend of mine did. How do you feel about it? ^_^)

Next time don't make friends with guys who just want a piece of your virtual ass!

That's why it's safer and pratical to say it out in front, and you can even just drop hints. Like, "Hey I think that chick Denise Richards is hot!!" and "Man, I tell ya...this game is sweet but my girlfriend hates it"...things like this if you want to be subtle and still play your character. That way the guy knows from the start that you're another guy and that it's still cool to play as buds.

My PSO character was a female character, and people assumed i was a male just playin a female character. But i am a female and some guys i have met have given me shit about being a female that plays video games. I think u should play with who ever u have fun with regardless of sex or age.

I don't know. I played PSO and had some female characters. Some guys would hit on them and even when they found out I was a guy, uh, they still hit on them. >.>

QueenBee raises an interesting point:

Why is it when women really DO play, we get accused of being a man, or even called liars? I've had it happen several times now.

And yet, when men play as women, it's always believed. wtf? In the world of PSO, when women act like women, we get thought of as men, but when men act like women, apparently that's more acceptable? Or are lots of people just complete fucking retards? Oy.

i play as a female character sometimes and i've been in that situation once where some guy has tried to hit on my character and i said "i'm a male playing as a female character" and they said, "oh, right, sorry" and carried on playing the game we were in and he acted like normal.
when i'm playing as my male character i always treat people as equals wether they are male or female, i don't try to hit on anyone or anything like that. i don't particularly see the point in doing so.

Personally, I don't ask what the player is.
I assume that 95% of players are male anyway.
If that's someone I get to play a lot with , I'll eventually figure it.
(ex: wow, Legolas in the movie is soooo hot ! -> girl)
And then what will I do ? I'll watch more my language. Call it silly, but I feel less like swearing when playing with a girl. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

If the person state his/her gender, then I believe that person. I see no reason why not.

Or are lots of people just complete fucking retards? Oy.

I'm afraid you got that point right...

Well, I keep it on the down low and try to pick up small clues. If they giggle alot or talk about cutesy things then I'd treat them more towards the girlies and if I meet a player that trips on a rappy and stays in the mud for a while...then I talk football to them.

the thingis, men knw what men want to hear, so a guy can have an easier time virtually tricking other guys into thinking he's female by being nice and doing and saying certain things... it's all psychological...

I dont see how the way u talk has anything 2 do with it. I have just as bad a potty mouth as any guy in this place. Also what we talk about, gimme a break...I can talk about sports with any1, shit I prolly know more about sports than most guys do. Its a given that living with my fiance had a lot 2 do with it, but u cant judge some1 by what they say or what they talk about. I have played with Shotie since the day she got PSO, and u ask her if I have EVER talked about flowers, and pink bunnies and all that kinda crap. I dont know a lot of females, but i can name myself, Shotie, Celestial, Ayame just 2 name a few. Its not like females that play video games are one in a million. Im sure u would be suprised. Just treat people who u wanna be treated regadless of age, sex or beliefs.

Wow, thanks for all your replies. Hmmm...now that I think of it, the way you talk may have something to do with it. I try to be as nice to everyone online as I can (there's no reason not to, right), so I tend to put lots of smilie faces http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif and tilas ~ in my conversation.
I guess that may have gave out the wrong impression to some people.... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
I have an idea, maybe I'll just create a male character and play online, then people can't assume anything since I play as both male and female character http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Something similar happened some months ago, I was at ruins 3 with 2 other guys, one of them had a female char. We didn't both know she was a he, and the other male started giving stuff and trowing kisses. Then when he was flerting him, she was beggining to wonder why she didn't answer. Then said "I'M A GUY, DAMMIT!" http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif and they started that typical "Why do you have a female char?" chat, ending in gameshark hackers-war!
Goes to show... "It's in in the mind... not in the eye"

Here's a hint to all would-be virtual wooers. I can't speak for anyone else, but I absolutely hate it when guys hit on me while I'm just trying to play a frickin' game (or read a message board... etc). I'll probably straight-up label you as a desperate moron and treat you as such.

No way. 1/1000? It's significantly more than that, but you'd never know since females are so reluctant to admit their gender, especially if a guy is hitting on them constantly or something. Would you blame them?

not at all.
Being hit on when playing with my FOnewearl gave me a good insight on what females must endure in real life sometimes.

Thats nothing, I played with this person once who had a female char, and I asked him if he was a female in real life. He said he was a female, and I told him not to lie to me and that I wouldnt care, but he still told me he was female. Then a while later, i found out he was a guy!! I was like wtf! It was so stupid that he lied to me and told me he was female, even though i didnt care.
