Why does everyone think PSO is coming out on Gamecube, Xbox and PS2?

IT IS NOT COMING TO PS2 FOR CUBES SAKE!

As of now A ps2 version of PSO is not in development. Period! We need to end this misconception!

It would be cool if it WAS coming to PS2, but sadly it is not....

Until Sega anounces it, it aint happening.

When Cube posts something twice you know he's pissed off his ends so you guy's who are talking about PSO coming to PS2, knock it off!! Oh wait, I've mentioned this on the other post already hehehe

I don't see any chance at all of PSO going to PS2.
Since Sega were integrated into Nintendo, they are now part of Nintendo, and Nintendo and Sony are Arch-enemies what with the PS1 and N64 war.

There is no way they'd hand over PSO!

Sojo has a point there, I mean, you see Jet Set Radio on the X-box and Panzer Dragoon but no Sonic Battles or anything Sega on the PS2. But I'm hoping FFXI will make up for the absence for PS2 owners.

If sega was integrated into Nintedo, why are they making the most games for the X-Box? And for that matter, why are certain games like Shinobi PS2 exclusive?

Hey that's right, so there will be hope that PSO will appear on the PS2 then, well...like Cube say, we can't rule out whether or not anything can or cannot happen until something is announced..so far it hasn't so let's move along and talk about PSO for X-box and Gamecube.

Only three Sega groups haven't announced PS2 support since Sega went multi-platform. They are:

Sonic Team
Amusement Vision
Hitamaker

And none of the above of shown signs of going back. AV is the only one not to announce development on a Non-Nintendo platform, and they're even developing Nintendo's own F-Zero for Gamecube.

Sega is a software company. They will provide software for as many platforms as they choose. No one owns sega except sega period. There is a possibility for a ps2 version of pso but its definately going to be after the xbox version is complete.

pso will have bigger competition on PS2 with the FFXI running...so i doubt we will see it on there

Facts :

1/ Yuji Naka rules Sonic Team.

2/ Yuji Naka despises Sony and PS2

So, the probability of PSO for PS2 is zilch unless one of the above changes.

Hmm...I think it's rather silly that Yuji Naka doesn't like the PS2. I may like his games, but I think he's an idiot for not supporting all the systems...one of the big points of PSO should be to bring all the platforms together for big online RPGs, but apparently he doesn't want to do that.

Hmmm, then can anyone here remind me who made Virtual Fighter 4 for PS2? Was that Namco? or maybe Acclaim? no I know! it's SNK!!! (playing stupid there) No really, I'd like to know, cause if it ain't sega, then they sold the idea or something, if it is sega who made it, then all that you siad about sega not being with sony doesn'T make sence, or maybe all changed since VF4 and that would prove that I'm wrong, anyway I'm outa here!

Try actually reading this topic again before making a post like that.

It was stated that Sonic Team does not support the PS2. Never did it say Sega. Sonic Team does not equal all of Sega, guy.

Sonic team hate the ps2 because it's too hard to program for and takes too much time, they hate the hardware design as do most developers. So in closing i doubt we will ever see pso on ps2.

Sure it was, as well as in many other posts (that you would have probably noticed if you have done qhat you told me to do in your post) it was said that apparently Sega was the arch-enney of sony. I'm refering those that thinks that way to one site to prove they are wrong:

http://www.sega.com

No really, Since when Sega part of Nintendo and apart of sony? like somone said before, sega belongs to sega and to no one else (or something like that) They sign contracts, today they devlop for nintendo, tomorrow for sony, and someother times with Microsoft if they feel like it!

Sure you can blame me for not quoting every single post where it was saying that sega was against sony not to confuse you by thinking that I didn't read the whole topic and stuff but, whatever http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

ahhhh, that's right. it's easily confused because Sonic Team runs alot of sega's success but Watashiwa's right, it doesn't mean that Sonic Team and Sega will make any kind of joint deciscions because they are two different entities...like Nintendo and Rare. But since Sonic Team is responsible for pso...*sigh for PS2 players who wanted to play pso.

and as for Hitmaker ... Sega Sports Tennis PS2Ahhh, my bad. Hitmaker are/were also supposedly porting Sonic Team's arcade musical game Shakka [something] Tambourine game to PSOne.

As for Smilebit, they made the very popular Let's Make a Pro J. League Soccer Team 2002! for PS2, and are also bringing the other game in the same line titled Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team 2002! later this Summer. Both are management sims and neither will be released outside Japan.
pso will have bigger competition on PS2 with the FFXI running...so i doubt we will see it on there I'm not so sure about that. First of all PSO and FFXI are two different games, one an Action RPG and the other a MMORPG. FFXI also has a very expensive set-up to play online, and features no offline play like PSO. Now keep in mind Final Fantasy has always been hugely popular in Japan and that is was on the Japanese Most Wanted list for about a year, So I was expecting around 500,000 - 750,000 in the first three day sales (not much for a FF game). So when it was released I was visibly shocked to see the game has sold less than PSO did on the DC in its first three days and has yet to sell out the initial shipment. Nintendo's soon-to-retire president Hiroshi Yamauchi also went on record as saying he considers FFXI sales to be "dissapointing".

So hence I don't think Sonic Team should be too worried. All RPGs fair better in Japan and Square was pretty dumb to put out a MMORPG, because they've never been popular in Japan.

It's just an idea, but I think Square was sort of jealous of ST performance with PSO.
They wanted to be online too.
FF11 will broaden the market in japan for online RPG, so it's good in the end for everybody.

I think Square have made two mistakes as of late, and both I think were for the better. Firstly, I agree with what you say: Square are good for trying to make MMORPG a popular genre in Japan. They also took making a videogame - movie tie-in and put some money behind it, marketed it well and actually tried (final products quality notwithstanding). Although both will no doubt go down as Square's two biggest failures.

Not including some sort of offline story-driven quests in FFXI, or even the ability to play FFXI offline in anyway seem to have crippled the game's chances of being popular. This is why I think it's important for PSO GC to have offline support, and more importantly offline multiplayer support.

I fear for the performance of FFXI overseas, especially where pricey add-ons have always bombed and bombed hard.

Just to let you all know, all of the groups within Sega, such as Sonic Team, AM2, etc., decide what they want to develop for what systems independant of one another and independant of Sega as a whole. Sonic Team did already state in several past interviews that they would never develop for the PS2, and yes, they stated it that directly. Thus, PSO will never be seen on the PS2. Remember, they all make decisions independant of one another.

Square's biggest mistake was calling it Final Fantasy XI instead of Final Fantasy Online... then again, maybe they would have sold even less if it was called Final Fantasy Online...

Wren
06-06-2002, 04:23 PM
FF XI should have been called FF online...and if they would have called it FF online...their sales would not have been hurt...because Final Fantasy will always sell.

Whatever team within Sega it was that made VF4 did it in about a year. I don't see why anyone should say it takes a long time to program. Also as I hear, it's only difficult to program initially until the developer gets to the right point on the learning curve. That and I read a some article once on why the PS2 wasn't hard to program (???) but I don't have the link because I read it some time ago. It was really really technical, though, I didn't even understand half of it so I don't think it'd be very useful to us.

GhoStar

AM2 ported VF4 to PS2 from Naomi 2 in about 6 months and that was their firt time working on PS2 hardware.

I don't think it's aything to do with Sonic Team hating PS2, they just prefer Nintendo's consoles. And since going multi-platform Sonic Team had had two million sellers in the form of Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Advance - both were on Nintendo hardware.

Thinking about it. The first 5 games from Sonic Team on a non-Sega console are on a Nintendo machine:
ChuChu Rocket!
Sonic Advance
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
Puyo Pop
Phantasy Star Online 1&2

With 1 game on the Xbox.
Then there's the rumours of Sonic Adventure 3 on the GameCube.
