I have a level 191 HUnewearl whose found everything on Skyly ID shy of a J-sword. She used to be able to find red swords like they were going out of style. It's been 300 hours since she's last seen a new Red sword. I used to be able to pipe hildeblues so fast I could get four god/arms in an hour. Now after piping for 45 minutes I found not a single hildeblue. Has anyone else noticed that their older characters loose their finding touch later in the game?

Note: I regard this topic as spam.

Alas, i shall reply anyway.Drop rates are averages over time. So if you found an item many times before you reached the drop rate, it would make sense that you would go over the drop rate many times as well. Hence the term "average".

BTW- God this is spam

I dunno, sounds more like a combo of Spam/Rant (very low-anger, boring rant). If ilr2000 would have added something funny into the mix, then it could have done nicely in FKL. Meh... yeah, I want to believe someone with as many post as ilr2000 wasn't really wondering if the game itself was programmed to drop less as character grew in level, but that ilr2000 was actually just trying to start up some conversation with other individuals who have had as much bad luck as he or she has.

It wasn't spam, but its turning into it. Thanks guys. Yeah.. I mean... I'm not a fuckwit. I know what the word "random" means. In a matter of 200 hours I find eleven red swords. Then 300 hours of searching and I find none. That's like flipping a hundred tails in a row, and all you wanted was a heads. If it were me, I'd think there's something wrong with the coin.

I've been playing this game waaaaaaay too long and I wont post something unless I think there's soemthing to it. I really think there's something in the character file that marks some sort of limit on what you can find. I'm serious when I say I have about 1500 hours on my character. I've been around. I know what "random" is like. This isn't random. This is "stopped".

To put i bluntly, no. Time on character has nothing to do with drop rates. You're using GC, so it's not a hacked mag problem, unless you're on Plus. I'd realy just say a horrible run of bad luck. Hell, on DC it used to be a rumour that at 200, 500, and 1000 hours your rare chances rose. Nothing but averages.

Look, if the red sword had a 1/2 drop rate, it would be like a coin, but since it is about 1/900, it would be like flipping a 900 sided coin with only one head. the programing has NOTHING to do with it. it is just luck, bad luck.

no one cared about the drop rate. he was talking about luck for older characters. After you stop playing with them, they seem useless.

I don't think it's the characters playtime. I haven't found much recently either. But that goes for both my 189 (1900+ hrs) and my 106 (about 200 hrs), so I don't see a connection...

Why? Why is this spam? He is concerned that he may be onto something, even though all of you mindlessly believe he's not. I've ranted about the sort of attitude that hangs around when topics like this emerge, and simply for time's sake, I'm not prepared to go into great depth. However...

1. People make mistakes, discoveries once thought inevitable can be proved wrong - People were once certain that the Earth was the centre of the Universe, and the sun and all the planets revolved around it. So why can the same idea, the ability to change the "inevitable", not apply here? Descoveries have been made, but you should NEVER assume, because the truth is, there is always the possibility that the descoveries are wrong.

2. For god's sake, give the guy a chance! He has enough posts, if he wanted to spam, he would have done a long time ago. In addition, he seems very well spoken, and is making a genuine statement - so why do you flame? Strangely enough, there's a difference between making a statement and trying to find the underlying truth, and spam; and this isn't spam. Also, don't give me all that 'I was joking' crap, because frankly, I'm not laughing - There's a time and a place.

EDIT: This generalisation aside though, if you were in his shoes, would you not be even remotely suspicious? Strangely enough, as I have leveled my HUnny over the lvl140 boundary, I have begun to fell less rares have been appearing in general, even though technically I should be getting more, because I'm killing things faster. Regardless of the truth behind it, its worth a thought...

No, because I've always had shitty personal luck. If anything, my characters find MORE stuff the higher they get. XP I could look at my playing, and make the erroneous conclusion that the more hours you play, the more rares you get, because there's some little hidden algorithm in the game that makes it so. In reality it is because of playing longer, but only because I've had time to catch up to some of the fixed drop rates. The idea that raising in levels somehow makes the game stop dropping rares is so utterly ludicrous logically that it's almost disgusting that someone that high a level would place any stock in such an idea. It's all personal luck concerning which random numbers get generated when you start the area.

Besides, rare items are indeed supposed to be rare, yes? Complaining because they're not dropping like water for you is utterly ridiculous.

However, I still don't believe that this topic should be called spam - He felt, from the knowledge he had, that he had wanted to make a statement about his experience, and find (albeit subconciously) an opinion. He got his opinions (Or, shall we say, "truths"), but also a load of crap about spam, and just felt, as I have seen before, it was unjust.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it spam, just a little mis-reasoned. ^_^;

I have never had good luck in this game, bar maybe one 3 hour period.

Kefs characters range from 168-200 in level, and he finds good shit all over the place, and always has.

It is what it is - that is luck.

It's human nature to look for reasons and we've seen that with so many theories on various topics and some seem to be possibly true, such as hacked mags/items affecting drop rates on one or more platforms. It would be nice if ST came out and stated that "Hacked Mag = 0 drop rate" as they have with "Olga Flow/Dark Falz = 0 drop rate." But, they have not, so people conjecture.

However, I too have made mistakes on this board when asking what seemed to be pervasive questions on my platform and it is a bit frustrating to get slammed so severely when you're posting on an informational board. The community exists to help fellow-players learn more about the game and get some help from time to time ... and to share personal experiences for other's benefit. I enjoy the game and this board tremendously, but feel disturbed when I see vicious flaming in either place.

As in life, all personalities are represented in this type of game and this type of board. I just hope that by expressing my opinions, which tend to be in agreement with folks like the original poster (in tone, not neccessarily on the topic) I will find and meet such players so that we can all work together to get the most out of this game and this board.

You know what I mean if you play xbox and you try to get a c-mode game together. It can be quite frustrating to find: 1) the right kind of characters, 2) the right stages/Ep, 3) players with reasonable skills, 4) players that can follow directions/know maps and finally, 5) players that are good people to play with.

Sometimes you have to show patience and tolerance for others to help them learn the game a bit, gain some experience/skills and get them up to where they enjoy the game well enough to want to play regularly. Jumping on people for relatively minor infractions, whether in the game or on this board, does not serve that purpose well. Lord knows we've all made some mistakes from time to time and hopefully we learn from them and improve.

Anyway, luck can be a pretty streaky thing. The important thing for all us of us to support each other so that those long dry runs are bearable and the good runs are frickin awesome!

Yesh, listen to Lain, Terra is Lv200 and still finds stuff the same she has always had, same for Kefka and his Lv191 and Hedoba and her Lv186 (gib Guld http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif ), it's definitely what Arislan said, bad luck streak. Heck, Kefka found a total of 46 Chain Sawds and at one point I have not found one in 50 hours, and even got denied on it by 6 PDs =/

On the bright side, Kefka found his Lavis (Skyly) at Lv 188 and Terra hers (Viridia) at Lv 197.
