View Full Version : PSO for the XBOX

Hello, I have an XBOX and I plan to buy PSO for it when it will be release.
Some people says that it will just be a Dreamcast v2 port with the voice/chat/communicator feature
Some people says that it will be PSO 2, the real sequel (but I don't believe that)
Some people says that it will be the same as the Cube with the voice/chat/communicator
Some people says that the news levels of the cube is exlusive for cube
We saw 3 pics from e3 and it's I think pics of the Forest in ultimate mode. That's all we know about it. And also that the communicator will be used.
I would be surprised if the XBOX PSO would be just a Dreamcast v2 port. Sonic Team had done so much for the cube, why they would return back to put on xbox just the DC v2 release ??? Perhaps XBOX will have also levels and features exclusive ??
Do you think a DC v2 port for XBOX will help to sell the game ?
I don't think so and I hope Sonic Team won't do that.
I have played PSO and PSOv2 on DC from the start with the import japanese game and I have at least 2 000 hours of game. I would be dissapointed if the XBOX have the same v2, and of course I will not buy it.
But I can't buy a Cube just for PSOv2 CUBE + memory card + Keyboard + Ethernet BBA + charge for the online
This will be too much just for one game so I hope Sonic Team will be cool with the XBOX and give us a real good game with new features.
Do we know more about XBOX PSO ?
Does Sega & Sonic Team says something after e3 about the game ?
When is the next game show ? is it Tokyo game show in august ?
Will there be an announcment before the show ?
Thx all

"But I can't buy a Cube just for PSOv2 CUBE"
I hate to sound like I'm trying to "convert" you (I'm really not, although I only own a GameCube when I get a job this summer I plan on getting both a PS2 and XBOX!) but you wouldn't be buying it "just for PSOv2 (It actually isn't v2, in my opinion I would consider it a sequal. New items, weapons, classes, skins, areas, story, and imporved graphics make it a new game) CUBE", you'd be buying it for the plethora of AAA titles scheduled for the system.
Plus it's only $150!

it seems like this guy already has an xbox, and would rather play pso on xbox, as long as it's the same as the gamecube version, so he doesn't have to spend $150 (cube) + $35 (bba) + $15 (mem) + $10~40 (hl)...
well, it's pretty much definetly not a sequel, so it'd either have to be (1) dc port (2) gc port or (3) port with exclusive xbox only stuff
the latest pictures showed of it had the gc style HUD so it's most likely (2) or (3)

it has DC style hub, not GC style hub (unless you have pictures to prove so) mainly because of the GC button placement. And besides, PSO GC is gonna have a LOT more added to it before its release. Right now we are going gaga over a trial Beta release !!!! I can't wait till the final version.

well I really didn't get to play ver2 so that will mostly still be new to me(had hL for 3 days before it glitched)
I it would be nice to get all the GC goodies

Excuse me but there is no reason why the Xbox version won't be a PSO GC Port! Why would they do that??? In my opinion, I think it's going to be the same thing only that's it's Broadband only and it has a voice chat communicator. Nothing else! Don't think just because PSO EP 1 & 2 Came on GC first means that it has more stuff. That's like saying Sonic Adventure 2 was on DC and then came on Gamecube with no new features??? Uuuh huuuhh yeeeaahh whatever... So shut your trap and wake up because I find it absurd that it'a going to be a port from Ver.2! If it is then I'll send Sonicteam to hell lol

Also, sorry to break it to you but from the Xbox screenshots of E3, it had the same hub as GC, NOT the DC one. That's assuming you say Hub as in where the hp and tp bar are. The pics are here in the forum in another post. It's the same thing except hot button placement since the buttons are very similar to DC.

yes the xbox version has the same hp and tp as the GCN one. Eventhough the hot button placement is same as DC's but it's GCN's style...
by the way about xbox ver...i remember M$ said any ports should have an exclusive...the voice comm and xbox live stufff are required and not part of the exclusive deal...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

what do you mean by "hub" if that was a typo and you mean hud(head up display) the xbox has the same style as the gamecubes. but the action buttons are DC style because the button layout is symetrical, unlike gamecubes asymetrical button layout.

Well whaddya know, no better graphics, so I was right after all. And the person who said the xbox version has the DC HUD... you're a damn fool. It's especially ironic because you have the DC HUD in your signature picture. Yeah, the buttons have the same quad-octagon setup, but do you see the new sleek design of the HP/TP counters and such? Anyways... i don't see why you people are so damn hyped about the xbox version, because you people always assume the xbox version is the best of any game. Example of a game a little bit WORSE on xbox than PS2 version: Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. Notice when doing special moves and such on xbox, the trails have a tendency to stay for a quick second or two. That glitchy crap wasn't in the PS2 version, however. And as for exclusive features? NONE! So don't be coming up here saying every xbox version of a multi platform game has some xbox exclsive add-on, because that's a damn lie, quit being such fanboys.

I think it may come down to how long you would like to wait. I don't believe the Xbox version is going to make it to store shelves and online until sometime next year.

Eh, I've heard from a few places that it's a possibility sometime around the release of the Xbox Live service. But it's not official (Or i think it isn't), but some retailers believe so.

One solid piece of information that gamers can look forward to was the list of first party Xbox Live launch titles they'll have whenever that "Fall" launch rolls around:
Unreal Championship
Phantasy Star Online
NFL Fever 2003
MechAssault
Whacked!
Midtown Madness 3

Actually, the Xbox version of PSO is a joint effort between Sonic Team and Microsoft.
When detailing their early plans for Xbox online, Microsoft had signed a deal with Sega and Sonic Team for an Xbox version of Phantasy Star Online. This version is being financed (partially) by Microsoft, and in the beginning, Microsoft wanted to bundle in the Xbox version of PSO with each subscription to their Xbox online service (it wasn't called Xbox Live at the time, to my knowledge).
When Yuji Naka was asked about the Xbox version of PSO, he did state that much work wouldn't be done on the Xbox version until the GC version is completed. He did not want to compromise work on both versions by having to develop both in tandem. He also stated that the exclusive features for the Xbox version will factor on how much time the people at Microsoft give Sonic Team.
Once PSO episode I and II got to a satisfactory point of development, a few members from Sonic Team started to work on getting their PSO development code running on the Xbox. Microsoft wanted to have a version of the game on display at E3 (mainly to show off the voice support feature) and Sonic Team was able to come through for them. The game isn't far enough into development to be a pack-in for the Xbox Live service, but it did end speculation that the game would not show up on the Xbox (and that the new PSO would be GC exclusive).
According to what my friend says (he went to E3 this year, I didn't), if time allows, Yuji Naka wants to include;
1. New Monsters and updates of some creatures from the previous Phantasy Star games.
2. Subtle graphic enhancements over the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions of PSO. Yuji Naka mentioned in one of his earlier interviews that he wanted PSO to take advantage of what the Xbox has to offer.
3. New levels and sub quest. This is the big thing that is going to make or break the Xbox version.
I really hope Microsoft gives Sonic Team more time to do their own thing. Since Xbox Live is a closed network, Sonic Team would not have to worry too much about memory constraints when making download able quest. Since GC owners would have to store these on a memory card, factors will always play a part in what Sonic Team can and can not do.
Xbox owners (that subscribe to the PSO service) already have a broadband connection and the HD built in. There is a better chance for updates and customization in the Xbox version of PSO (should Sonic Team take advantage of it).
It's easy to see why PSO fans that own an Xbox are excited about what their console's version could turn into. I own an Xbox, but I'm leaning towards getting a modded GC so I can check out Episode I and II in August. According to Sega's E3 trailer, the Episode II content is exclusive to the GC. They have not went into detail about those terms being a counterpoint to the DC versions of PSO or if those levels can only be for the GC version of PSO.
Charles Bellfield also mentioned that Sega has not yet finalized the Xbox exclusive features. Text chat support has not been ruled out at this point. Microsoft should be detailing their online plans for Japan soon, and if PSO is a part of that plan, text chat is going to play a role.
As far as the title of the Xbox version goes, it has yet to be finalized. The reason the game was called PSO 2 during Microsoft's online presentation is mainly due to them (Microsoft) basing the title off of the ideas Yuji Naka stated he would like to add. In cotrast, Yuji Naka has stated that it would take time for Sonic Team to create a true sequel to PSO, but hopes that fans would accept the new episodes.

Xbox PSO will definitely boast a few more things than the gcn PSO because sonic team likes to add to thier games while they work on them, but GCN PSO is better for me because it is more likely to have better PSO players, xbox was purchased by all the people that used to hang out in Oberon 1. So good luck my fellow x-box people.

Aaaaah Shut up ¬ _ ¬ Pardon me but stop speculating who's going where OK? WHY would the people that used to hang around in Oberon come to Xbox only? God, why can't you people stop making up excuses to make the GC version look like the greatest one @_@ Also, I am not denying that won't happen, who knows people are preffering the GC version, that's true, but don't go off saying stuff that isn't true. I for one am getting PSO for Xbox and believe me I don't hang around in Oberon and yes I used to in the beginning but again I don't see any relation with what that has to do. And pardon me, to all you "shut up xbox fanboys people" you're pretty much fanboys yourself, you just say "Gamecube version is the best in the world" and end it there. Most Xbox people get excited just because seeing comments like that and get frustrated, so they act joyful that they're going to enjoy it. At least I for one am. Now, to something with more of a point. Denny thanks for that info, pretty good one too. I also suspected that the version they had in E3 was so they can how the voice chat. Let's hope Xbox version DOES have exclusives. I don't see anything bad if they do http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

thanks for the info Denny...I too am looking forward to Xbox version more cos I don't have the GCN, mainly cos I have not much money for another console...whether it is a port of the DC ver or the GCN one, I am pretty much sure I will stick to the XBox version...not because it will be the best, actually I don't think it's that much different and I even expect it to be inferior to GCn ver...but then I know that as long as I have XBox live, I will be playing PSO...And I am pretty sure I will be online on xbox as long as the online games are coming...http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
I will guarantee be online on Xbox ver for at least a year while if I get GCN version, I may not continue once the 3 months expires...$15 for a game for three months is cheap...but then it's only for one game and also the process of renewing stuff makes me lazy and feel like I am spendiing something...
so I have my own reason for getting xbox version, but in no way I am bashing other systems...those haters are just jealous and those fanboys are too much in love with the system which they sholdn't be...whether it's xbox or whatever...they are all great systems...

There's little doubt that both versions will satisfy current PSO fans, but I'm not too sure it'll attract a large new audience.
For GC, PSO has to contend with Nintendo's Holiday lineup- I doubt it'll fair too well, especially when considering that Nintendo really doesn't care too much about its online ventures.
For X-Box, PSO has to contend with its other online games (mainly FPS).
It's not the quality of games I'm concerned about, but how many new players we'll see.

With the last news of xbox live in japan, the sbox pso is looking better, added word select and there's still the possibility about text chat.
PSo GC is so near, and the poeple who want will enjoy it a lot. PSOxbox qill come later and might be a bit better who know, and the people will enjoy it too. Both are PSO, pso is always good.

They picked the Perfect strategy for Japan. If they sell it free with the Xbox Live set, it'll win the favor of a lot of japanese since it's pretty much cheap and easy. Who knows, maybe Xbox Live will be more popular than we thought in Japan.
