Now you may think this a little silly, but, how does one define a 'rare' item in V2? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I used to call gold items rare.. but that theory goes out the window once you get to Vhard past the mines. Then I changed my definition of a rare item to "Those blue things with question marks that say special weapon", but in only two hours playing, I found 4 of these in the forest on ultimate, so that's not too rare either. And the stars are *totally* useless..

I'm actually just starting to realize that *nothing* is rare http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Except maybe special weapons from a section id totally opposite yours. I would define a rare item as something that is very hard to find, like a meteor crudgel or lavis blades, those would be considered as "rare" because you could play forest-ruins tons of times and never find these items. v2 armor is also very "rare". Pretty much things that dont show up frequently. I wouldn't consider red handguns, red sabers, ancient sabers, twinkle stars, imperial picks, and summit moons rare, theyre more like common rares.

So there *are* rares that are actually fit to be called as such, that's good to know...

Incidentally, the four items? 3 stag cutlery's and my second Red Handgun http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif So, add the stag to the list of "common rares", at least for Yellowbozo's. Sinow blades too.

Rare is a Red Handgun, Red Saber, Red Partisan, Red Sword. Look in any team online right now and try to tell me otherwise. =P

Monkey King Bar, Lavis Blades? No, those are dirt-common. Your average newbie can pop online and have these in his or her bank within minutes, while the quest for a Red Saber might be quite a bit more involving. People tend to have an S-Rank Needle and Soniti Mag at L:1 these days, but they only find their first Red Sword at around L:90, at which point they're amazed that such a thing exists.

Rarity is in direct relation to the state of the PSO community.

Okay. I sort of figured that.

To find... How about four-slot version 2 armor? Most people won't be able to look you sqaure in the eye and tell you they found a suit of that. The epitome of 'rare' would probably be a four-slot Virus Armor: Lafuteria. Or however it's spelled.

Decent armor seems to be far more difficult to attain than a decent weapon.

Armor would probably be the rarest of items or maybe mag cells. In v2 for armor I've only found a Sacred Cloth in Ultimate Forest and a Parasite Wear: Vajulla in Vhard Ruins and never a mag cell. Honestly, I guess I'd say a rare is one of those things you regret losing after you get your ass Pk'd or FSOD or whatever the crazy hackers decide to do with you http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif, heh. Because when you think about it, if its not rare you'll say "Well, time to go pick up another _____ from the forest." but if its rare it would sound something like this "%*$*!@#$%"! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_bash.gif

i'd define finding a purple ring in ult/forest rare ^-^ (and i found it the same day i found a sound source FM...) - now i just have to get to lvl 161 for actually using it....

Rare? it's also just about impossible. Everyone who's ever found a purple ring(including myself) has found it in a box in ult ruins.

For me:

Common Rare: stuff like SUMMIT MOON (which REDRIA do find http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif )

Rare: stuff like RED SWORD

Super Rare: stuff like v2 armor/shield

Don't bother Rare: items so uncommon you should bother hunting for them.

hm... ruins then... to be honest i dont really remember where and how (box or enemy) i found it - i discovered it in my inventory, when i went to the bank storeing mats after some hours touring through the areas...
maybe i mix it up with the sound source FM i found later that day - did ruins all day and forest once (and got both purple ring and sound source FM the same day)...

I've only find as considerably "RARE" a Stag Cutllery and Chain Sawd >__<; Well, what I'm really looking forward to complete my techs to level 30. Otherwise, I think rare system isn't really that bad. Problem is that whe people see a really rare item they get their hopes up in finding them and then get frustrated. Recently I play just fine with me friends, we usually play in Ultimate and we all have our commen rare weapons to fend ourselves haha. What I DO think they make TOO rare are Mag Cells O__o...

On the subject of rare armors, yes, I agree, theres is no way in hell someone could find a 4 slot luminous field. Well, at least in Episode 1&2, we don't have to bust our asses off as much for slots, because now they have slot booster items, thank god... Now, the rares. I agree with phalanx here, there are just some rares that you shouldn't even bother looking for. Like Double Cannon. Deemed one of the most badass blades in PSO. However, you'll NEVER, EVER, get one legitimately, why? Sonic Team's got that baby on total lockdown, therefore, it ain't going anywhere online.

My mate Neogra found a 4 slot Luminous Field about 1 week ago heh. Its his first v2 shield or armour, and he's level 175. I know, for a fact, that its legit. I would call a rare anything that you can't find despite persistance. Red Sword, Red Daggers, Hanter Shell, Elysion, and Luminous Field/Sacred Guard.. I don't call these rare. Just very uncommon drops. But once you know how to find them, if you want one you can spend a few weeks at it, and will get a result. The v2 armours and shields ARE all very rare, except the ones the Dragon drops are only a 1 in 910 chance, which are quite nice odds - you just have to do alot of Forests.
Before you go thinking you've done that many, realise its about 40million exp you'd have earnt if you do them fully - ie, level 167.

If you're worried v2 doesn't have truly rare items, you've got another thing coming. There is a list that has the exact odds of every v2 item, and they are not pretty at all.. I'm talking 1 in a million kind of odds at time.. The Elysion is 1 in 10000. And that's in boxes, which are frequent... yet that itself is bloody hard to find.

Once you see that list, and can set a goal for something reasonable, I wouldn't call that thing a rare. Once the odds bump over about 15-20000 then I'd call it freakin' rare.

I just found a God Shield Byakko. 1 in 166 thousand Gulgus-Gues. By far the rarest thing I've found.. and its the exact same dfp and evp as a yellow ring http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif How unfair is that. It doesn't even suit Kaloo.
