I like things other then PSO...and one of them happens to be DBZ.

I know that the DBZ fans don't have the best of reputations. Often labeled zealots, rabid, immature, incomprehensible and flat out dumb. Not all DBZ fans are that way. Yes, most are real opinionated, but that's not the point for the post.

The point is that I am trying out an oldskool style of art. The French movement known as Art Nouveau. It was done a long time ago, like a little less then century or something. But it was cool. There were a bunch of guys who were famous for their new style ads, posters and drawings. Some of them were Alphonse Mucha and Aubery Beardsly.

Art Nouveau featured a lot of 'telltale signs' for its style. Some of them include:
-Frames around everything
-Really complicated designs
-It looks like it might be some kind of ad. Or not.
-Nakeds, or people draped in cloth. (yes, he isn't wearing any clothes, but that species tends not to)
-Organic looking stuff in the background or flowers
-Subject of the picture is vaguely pleased about something, and looking outward at the viewer, or focused on an object close at hand.
-They leave the outlines on the pictures! Sort of 'coloring book style', even the 'inlines' are left on.
-Things which go in "French Curves"
-Faded or pale colors
-Labels! Writing stuff onto the pictures was a good idea for them.

What's that gray stuff in the background? Part of the Big Ghetti Star, a large metallic conglomeration of space junk, with a brain.
I think this pic has most of the list of stuff covered. This was inspired by two things, a font, and the exoskeleton of his head and tail. I still have a problem with his eyes, in that he doesn't look that...alive or something, but people without eye-whites tend not to. I'm also wondering if it's complicated enough to serve the purpose. It was done in Painter, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Still, what do you think?

I've got that movie. I think that's an awesome piece of art there. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

That's a very interesting style...Would you happen to have more pics done in it?

Edit: Did his face look like that??? http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

I applaud you heartily for trying something so out of the ordinary. I have to tell you, I am a huge art nouveau fangirl. Mucha is an absolute art-god. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
You did a great job combining this character with the elements of art nouveau! I, for one, would love to see more stuff like this. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well, although I don't like DBZ or any of it's off-shoots, I will say I like their character designs...some of them, anyway. Actually, the only reason I'm not a fan is because it takes a week to finish a storyline/battle.
Is that an actual character of the show, or something of your own design? (The only problem I have with it is: unless his body is floating, he's got killer toe strength. I mean, like, levelling-a-city-block-strong.)
But yeah, nice job on the Art Neuveau look. Muy impressivo, as the Germans say. I like the amount of detail that's been put in there, makes it very expressive.
Now for the criticism: *Throws arms over eyes*Oh! Nudity!
"No, no, no! It's supposed to be like that." Oh, cool. Yeah, I do a lot of clothing optional sci-fi stories...The aliens, not the people...well, the people, not the humans. And by humans, I mean homo sapiens. (Please no homo jokes...If you're going to do jokes on scientific names, move back a few classifications, to homo erectus.)
To conclude, good job, nicely detailed, not a fan of DBZ, but like the characters.

Thanks for looking!
I am glad this crossing of styles is appriciated.

To Sef and Astuarlen: yes, I have 2 more pictures in this style, and since this one was recieved so well, I'll post the others up as soon as they are completed. One has a more elaborate border, and the other is portrait style.

Yes, his face did look like that. For about 1 minute total. He has retractable lower-facial armor which he can fold off his face at will. For most of the time he is fighting, he prefers it left on to protect him, but there's one portion where he speaks a lot, and he pulls it down. You can see the sides of it which do not retract at the edges of his cheeks.

Gnarled Rose: He is Kooler, featured only in 2 movies (that I'm aware of...Kooler, and Kooler's Revenge- the JP titles are somewhat absurd so I don't recall them) I didn't make him up, he's of a shape shifting race with various 'forms' this form is the most striking, and what inspired me to use him.

And yes, he really does have killer toe-strength. He can level mountains if he feels like it, and probably destroy entire planets just by pointing at them. (His Bro Freeza could, and Kooler was supposedly much stronger) Unfortunatly, he didn't have much of a personality from what was shown of him. But if he could beat down Goku and Vegita (and we know how rediculously strong they are) standing on his feet fingers is no trouble at all.

Well. I am not a very big fan of any DragonBall related fanart but I do like this one a lot. Well, granted, I actually like the style you protrayed rather than the character himself. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Actually, if possible I'd LOVE to see you draw some other subject with similar style. The only thing I see that bugs me a tiny bit is that the purple on Freezer kinda doesn't go very well with the salmon pink in the background. ... I can't suggest an alternative, but somehow it bugs me a little. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Still. *thumbs up*
You are prolly the most stylish artist around here. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif
