It would be nice.

The whole world under one dictatorship would be great. No wars, and everyone under one leadership. Good idea, just don't let anyone from Corrupticut be the leader. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I would only like the idea if it were a democratic world nation.

Jul 27, 2004, 10:53 PM
I want one language. That'd be nice, no more language barriers.
X_X

The only thing about one nation is that people would have to go with one idea of government, right? It is interesting when nations compete, like China and the US are doing now.

We would call it the Federation.

Then, some colonies would split off, calling themselves "Zeon."

Cool!

Provided that we do all unite under one nation, there will always be fighting and skirmishes. In fact, uniting under one nation would be the perfect recipe for endless civil wars, let alone the terrorist activity.

One of the things that you must keep in mind, and this is why we have so much trouble today, is that not all cultures on this planet have developed as far. The Northern Hemisphere is generally well developed culturally, but the Southern Hemisphere, with the exception of perhaps, Australia and a handfull of South American nations, have a level of cultural development that can be compared to Europe's middle ages.

Mind you, I'm not at all talking about technology, but specifically about the cultural habits of each nation. For example, as cultures, the United States, Europe and most Asian nations are capable of interacting peacefully with the rest of the world, despite obvious differences. A Diplomat from one nation is capable of, and willing to learn the customs of the nation they are going to, so that they can behave politely and courteously, to have discussions on whatever matters need to be discussed.

Meanwhile, while many of the leaders of many Middle-Eastern (and many other) nations are capable of doing what I just described, many of their people are not. They have the attitude that others will conform to their customs when they are visited. They want to be conquerors, and they want things to be their way. They aren't willing to make cordial agreements, and they aren't willing to negociate. They group together in terrorist groups, take hostages and make demands. They attack innocent people out of nowhere, and they behave barbarically on video. They're so far behind, culturally, that they are incapable of behaving peacefully in a world-community.

I'm not saying that they won't eventually progress to where we are now, but it may take a while.

Even beyond that, I fail to see how a single world nation can function properly. I can't see how it could work. If the whole thing were split into hemispheres or continents, I could see it. The competition would keep the leaders of each nation in check, like the keystone in an arch. Under a single rule though, there'd be far too much wiggle-room for corruption. With no one to oppose you, who could possibly be against you?

I too don't think a dictatorship would work very well. Personally, I wouldn't want to live in a world where everyone has to watch what they say rfor fear of being put in jail, even if the world is united and the threat of war is close to zero. Giving up freedom for safety is not a fair trade, in my opinion.

Sord
Jul 28, 2004, 12:34 PM
actually, if there were a dictatorship, look at it this way, 1 leader vs. Entire World Population. Leader does one thing wrong, billion people revolt overwhelming his guards and he's dead. Now a power skirmish insues as to who is the new dictator, when it's finally settled, more death!

it's kinda easy, just find the videogamer who is obssessed enough to go out and buy a $300 game chair with joy stick, modern day gaming pannel (with nobs, switches, meters, and various omiters) that has been playing armored core games 10x more than the average person... or you could just get the guy who beat Soul Calibur on it's hardest mode using the fishing rod controller.

funny thing is it really did happen, thet guy videotaped the whole thing and sent it in to gameinformer (or maybe it was another gaming magazine), so they commemorated his efforts by writing a "Most Obsessive Gamer" article on him.

Has it been tried before?

If they get a group of diverse people to set things up at the start, eventually, the world could function without a government. The only time it could really be required is during the set-up of the unification, and whenever something major and new comes about.

It may work, it may not. Giving it a try would be interesting.
