View Full Version : gamecube keyboard
Does the keyboard use up 2 controller slots? And if it does can you just plug the keyboard part in one slot and use a normal controller to actually play.

I hope they sell a normal keyboard too.... that hybrid is too big and heavy for a controller and too little for a keyboard

That keyboard contraption does use 2 controller ports. I have no clue as to whether or not you can just plug in the keyboard part and then use a normal controller. That would be nice, though.

Doesn't matter anyways. If you're playing offline you can scream in your friends ear to use a star atomizer. XD

actually. The Keyboard will only take up one slot. You can play with another mocontrol, but I wouldn't advise you to. the ASCI board is very comfortable, and it totally beats the Dreamcast's keyboard and having to practicly set your mocontrol down to type. It's a lot quicker. And for those of you who are importing Phantasy Star Online Episode 1&2 like I am, that comes out august 8th, The Keyboard is English and Japanese. It's two things on one key. So like for example, Your "A" key would have A where it is now, but a japanese character would be under it. until then, my pso learners. he he.

i find it quicker to have a seperate full size keyboard that's sitting on a desk or coffee table nd just hold the controller left handed and type with my right hand like i did with dc pso

I dont know how you peps did it, but with the DC version I had the keyboard on my lap, and the controller wire running underneath it up between my legs and I just help the controller. And when I wanted to talk I would place the controller in my lap and type. Its very efficent.

How so? For some reason, I can't picture your typing with two hands while the controller/keyboard is floating in the air. You still have to set the controller down to type with two hands. Holding it one-handed, it's still not going to be that much better, as the keys are smaller than your standard keyboard making things even more difficult.
I don't care how comfortable this controller supposedly is, holding something that bulky while not on your lap will get tiresome after awhile. And people made fun of the Xbox controller? Sheesh.
Give me a seperate, standard keyboard.
thats just heero's view.... anyhow has wata-chan got the keyboard controller? or hasnt it been out yet?
i wonder if the kb has vibration function or not..... >_<
btw i think having a big kb controller is ok, my kb's always on my lap anyway(DC time i mean), but have to stretch out my arms just to play the game is a bit.... >_<;; i think they need a seperate keyboard, and we'll choose teh one we prefer

I think I would prefer using a seperate keyboard and controller than that awful hybrid thing. I play laying (or sitting) on my couch, and I have a little table that the keyboard fits on perfectly. I can type around 90+ words a minute, so on the rare occasions I actually do set the controller down, it's not down long. Normally however, I can type with my right hand and steer with my left, it's not that hard. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif
In fact, I think having the keyboard and controller in one will make it even harder for some of us out there than before. I just hope they give us options.

That's exactly how I work it. It will be interesting to see how it works with that monstrosity.

Yeh.. if anything it makes typing with one hand harder.

Why would you care? The only time you would need it is when your playing online. So stop your crying.
I could really care less because i just want the damn game...also with the dc verion i would just lay on my bed or floor and just set the keyboard down...i dnt know why people complain really about haveing a seperate keyboard...its not like the enemies in PSO can actually kill u...they are so damn stupid and if your playing with a team with at least a little skill...they got your back..i see no problem with the seperate keyboard...plus that damn keyboard hybrid shit is 60 bucks! thats just as much as the game...freak that..shoot ill just wait till they make it seperate also from the last picture i saw the hybrid had two controller thingies:P but i dnt care cause im not coughing up 60 bucks for a huge controller and a small ass keyboard...that just my opinion (also the hybrid will probably be cheaper in the US but im talking about the import)

Well maybe people with big families or a couple brothers and sisters will want it just for the multiplayer aspects and may not want to pay the monthly fees..but u still have a point...i know i wouldnt just play pso offline...but thats just me:p

I just preordered it from NCSX.
I prordered Episode 1&2 like.. yesterday but I couldn't decided it I wanted to preorder the controller too.
I hope it will fit over my legs when I sit in my chair. I think it will work well for how I usually sit when I play games.

uhhhh, hey, Omar. Where did you get the monthly fees thing from??? and to tell the truth, I don't really care about the keyboard. I forgot who said it, but someone said they type 90 words per min. I type over a 100 so it's the same wit me, the moconrtol isn't down long. I'm ordering the game+ modem bundle, and gettin the keyboard. That's around 200 bucks. =D not to bad. nutin us 13 year old Round Rock Texans can't get quickly. =p
EDIT: that 200 bucks thing. That was also including gettin my GC modded. That'd be a rip off if th game+keyboard+modem was 200 bucks.

Wait...now I remember how I used it!
I had my DC hooked up to my computer monitor, so I would put the DC keyboard where the PC keyboard is now, just slide it over. Play normally, and put the controller in my lap while I type noamlly using a normal keyboard in a comfortable position.
Now let's see...if I have the GameCube in the other room...with nothing but a floor...aaa...I don't wanna think about it...

I was wondering, is there an adapter that allows you to use Playstation 2 controllers on your GameCube. Because then I can use the Playstaion 2 one instead of that Hybrid one. Anyone know if this will work or not?

I have seen an adapter for Playstation controllers but I dont know if it work with ps2 controllers... I also think you have to import it.

Does anyone have any pics of the Keyboards? I'd like to see it myself. I saw one a loong itme ago on IGN. It looked like a good idea (the hybrid of a GC control and a keyboard).
I remember my PSO days when i really felt like typing out a strategy for everyone to follow (bit of a strategist) but coulding becuase my Keyboard was seperate formt he controller and was on my PC desk.
Perhaps the hybrid would be more comfortable than people say it to be.

Yes, there is a PS2/PS1 (dual shock) controller converter for Gamecube, and ncsx.com sells them. Thing is, why do you want to use a playstation controller? Are you one of those people who say the GC controller sucks or something?

Is that the official GC Keyboard controller Hybrid?
