Are you implying pink isn't a calm colour?

For that (and the fact that the lettering is beautifully brown), I shall give it my undying love and adoration. Come, let us burn incense at the Altar of the Pink Flyer. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The color associated with communism was red. Communist sympathizers were called Pink-os (neither commie nor american, so a blend of the two).

A big pink poster reading DONT VOTE is sure to grab attention in 1964 in the middle of the cold war. If they wanted people to read their sign, this was the color to make it.

I do hope I explained this in vain.

You didn't, but 1964 was far from the climax of the Cold War Era. That was the early to mid 1980s. As, at this time, more people were under communist rule than any other single government type. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, People's Republic of China, People's Republic of North Korea, Republic of Vietnam, Republic of Cuba, the entire Eastern Bloc, various revolutions in South America and Africa. Other common terms for communists were, Reds, Commie Crumbbums, Leninites, Soviets, October Revolutionaries, Cossaks, Russkies, and some much more... racist terms.

Good thing I never said it was the climax.
