View Full Version : Anyone Roleplaying?

I was having a discussion with some of my "film crew" (making a movie..quite humorous) when the discussion of roleplaying on MMORPGs came up. It got me wondering if anyone was going to attempt to Roleplay on PSO, perhaps even have a Ship and Block just for those who wish to do some Sci-Fi roleplaying.
The second that I log on I'm roleplaying. Hell, I even used to roleplay on this board. It most definitely enhances the gaming experience.

think me arrogant...but i find it stupid. i do wish they would have Roleplaying Ships Specifically for roleplayers so that the roleplayers can get thier Fill. It works wonderfully for DAOC.
Well, I only play games with fellow Roleplayers so the lack of roleplaying doesnt really bother me.
And if roleplayers do bother you so bad that you think they should have their own ship just think of us as interactive NPCs.

yeah my post sounded really BAD! what i meant was i dont like to roleplay becuase i find it wierd/funny. BUT i think for the ppl that Do like to roleplay maybe they should have the option of goingt o a ship where other roleplayers are so that they can have some Roleplaying fun with others. I dont mind when other ppl roleplay, i just make myself look retarded when i try it

Personally I have never role played in an MMORPG. For fear that most other role players would be bratty little fnaboys who just want to rip off other ideas (Star Wars, DBZ, Gundam Wing etc...).
I might give it a try this time around. If I can find some mature roleplayers. You know what they say "don't knock it til you try it".
I did a lot of roleplaying with Version 1.We have a group of roleplayers, created our own forum at EZBoard and we had a blast...we plan to meet up on other games as well like episode 1&2 and possibly FFX1.We always went to the same ship and block and never had any problems.Sure it's harder on PSO,because of the restraint of only 4 in-game but we managed and some of those sessions where the best fun i had on PSO.

Do people punch you, or at least threaten to on a consistant basis in real life?
Just wondering

I looooooove Roleplaying, but it's harder finding people who like doing it. I introduced the idea to my clan and they still don't get it lol. Otherwise, I really think there should be a Roleplaying Ship, just one would do. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

If I can get online with the GC I would love to roleplay. What do you think the RP in RPG stands for. For the last few months I've been writing a massive fanfic. If I can get onlinem I would like to add some real people to it. Rivals, buddys, you know things like that.

Is it really possible not to roleplay? Maybe I'm not understanding you, but surely playing as a character who looks different and has a different name is roleplaying.
If roleplaying is just not mentioning real-life then yes i would agree it would be good, but it would need changes in the game which would mean it didnt draw attention to itself actually being a game. The whole lobby, ship and game thing would need to be reworked so that when we play we inhabit pioneer 2, not just play pso.

I was thinking of ways that i could roleplay some in PSO. There are actually quite a few roles that could be done and it would further enhance my gaming experience ( I use gaming to escape from life at times). I also think roleplaying can also help keep me from getting bored with PSO. The problems lies with whom I'm going to roleplay with and where. We could easily just pick a ship and block and say thats the "RP ship".

I don't see much point in RPing, I mean, what would it look like besides this
HUmar: Hello there friend!
RAmar: Why hello there fellow hunter
HUmar: What shall we do today?
RAmar: Lets travel to Ragol and kill hundreds of monsters!
HUmar: Yeah! Killing stuff is fun!
RAmar: Hooray!

Oh no, Rhete! Dun post that!! It is way more deep than that! Our characters have souls! They feel and breathe the atmosphere of P2!! Now let's meet on PSO! I'll be the HUmar, you be the HUnewearl. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Rhete, have you ever truelly tried roleplaying? It's nothing like that. Alot of people don't roleplay because they think other will say they look stupid.. or worse yet they think they'll look stupid. It's like said before "Don't knock it till you try it" Roleplaying can be very fun and entertaining if done with the right people.

Nope, I still don't see the point. No matter how you try to dress up the game, its always going to be
HUmar: What stage?
RAmar: Anywhere but caves
HUmar: Ok

Well we're all entitled to our opinions. Personally,I not only support roleplay but I also think it's healthy (from a psychological stand point) but, I doubt I will roleplay in PSO, theres a lack of freedom which is required to roleplay. Still I wouldn't mind giving it a try.
when you roleplay do you pretend people like you?

Is this roleplaying? X3 (http://home02.isao.net/yumemi/gallery/nakama/jamkey01.html)
Right, someone please explain to me...
How can you roleplay on PSO...?
Surely just playing the game in the first place is a sort of role-play, so how would you change the plot or story?
I preffer to do RPG's in real life, and have now become a GM for a game called Inquisitor. It's a pain in the arse though, the old GM has a new job on our games night, and I have to take over, but I have no paperwork from him and only know some of the major points in the story line so have to improvise my own bits in between.
Last time was a joke! I kinda expected old GM to be there, but nope. I had no character sheets for any NPC's, and it went kinda slowly.
Combine that with 8 immature players, some of whom wander around the place between turns, one who doesn't know how to play, and one who only considers things in terms of "If I were GM..." makes for a hectic game!!
I intend to finish it off quickly and get my own game running with fewer god-damned players!

Hey, don't no one say anything bad about role-playing!!!! Ya hear me!!!?
This was me at our latest convension, styling and pro-filing!

And I don't know why Greg tries to put it down either! He was there talking to me about how he's a closet role-player... here's him and the rest of the PSO:W gang:

10 points if you can point out who wata is... 0_o
I think RP in PSO's context exists mostly in the realm of fanfiction, rather than within the game. The game's plot leaves thousands of openings for hidden facets of the Pioneer 2, but no medium to explore those within the game itself. While actually playing, about the only way to RP is to say stuff along the lines of what your character would say. For example, using a generic Hunter and my irritable FOnewm Kupe:
Hunter: Ack! I need a Resta!
(Kupe casts Resta as asked.)
(After the room is cleared...)
Kupe: Am I always going to be covering your butt, or are you going to learn to fight properly?
Or, another way of going about it would be to limit or "theme" your techs/weapon usage. Whether or not one could actually pull that off effectively, however, I don't know. I have a topic in Fan Works about it, if anyone would like to submit their opinions.
That's all for now!

Why you gotta hate Rhete!?
We were simply putting the roleplaying into the cosplaying! Ya know, getting dressed up and playing a role... 0_o
But yes, I do know the difference between cosplay and roleplaying (both as stupid as each other http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif). You just had to try and spoil the fun, and couldn't play along... SHAME ON YOU!!!
Oh, and the '!=' is so old. No one does it anymore...

I see, that was spontaneous. Anywho I personally don't believe in roleplaying in person. (unless it's in the bedroom, but thats another issue).

i was roleplaying with 3 other people (all of which live in my town) back in ver. 1, and it sort of died out without us trying to kill it or anything... PSO ended up being where we woudl just talk about... stuff. So that sadly killed our RPing. Those were good times, though. Cheech and I would go into games and always talk about how we despised those 'fiendish androids'. we even made character sheets, with attributes and history of our characters. We're in a band together, actually, and spent way too much of our time that we were supposed to be 'pracitcing' blabling about our RP characters and ideas for them and such (much to the dismay of our guitarist, who RPed with us, but she didnt get into it much).
Yeahhh... i'm a loser.
Flame removed. >.> C'mon now, you were warned.
