If you pick other, why not tell us what it is!

Awww, that's so sweet! Who's your best friend?

Other: Myself

Friends are great. I love my friends. But at some point, I learned to draw the line. How can the most important thing in MY life have something to do with someone elses life? I would give my life in exchange for the life/lives of some of my friends (a good two right off the top of my head), but that does not imply that at this point in time, or that even in the future, anyone other myself will ever be the most important thing in my life. Before any of you point out that by giving my life in exchange for the life of someone else is implying that I find someone elses life (aka friend) in a higher level of importance, I feel the need to shut you the fuck up.

I would give my life for my friends because I know that their lives would be better used in this world than mine ever could be. Their lives are more imporant to the world, than my life is. But what is most important to the world, is not what is most impotant to me. I hold my myself to be the most important thing to me. Duh. (it's obvious to me, but maybe not to all of you) Hope that made sense http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

I completely agree with the "I would give my life for my friends because I know that their lives would be better used in this world than mine ever could be. Their lives are more imporant to the world, than my life is." I feel that exact way about my best bud Scott Kuda...i have told him and other people that i would give my life for him..I dunno if it really means anything to him or anyone else, but it means alot to me o.o;;

Normally, no.

But meh,

Whats there to explain, look at my title. Though I love my family and friends, well, I'm selfish. But being selfish isn't a bad thing, it just means your human, and that you take care of yourself.

My life isn't exactly a drama, I've got a good family and a good home, yet if you asked me a question like if I had to choose my own death over theirs, my answer would be one that tends to sicken.

I've kinda got this grudge against humanity, and it tends to interfere with such questions like these. Now you may take offense to this, but I don't really care about lots of things. Like someone down on their luck, like some person who just wants to get to know me. It just doesn't matter. If you met me in RL you wouldn't be able to tell this extreme, but after time the truth would show.

I am, insufferably selfish, but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to go out of my way for others. I, as mentioned, both hate and love humans, but that doesn't mean I meet people on the streets with a sneer.

So yeah, I am my priority. Got a few things that I need to get done in this life, other than that, everything else is just pityless pleasures. Such things are easily forgotten. You don't really realize such things untill you stop to think about them. I've forgotten things like birthdays, anniverseries, friends, all those people who make a difference in your life, fade away as the years pass.

Me, myself, and I. Don't really need anything else.

Damn, feels like a confessional in here -_-

No, I'm not the type of person to cries himself to sleep everynight and blames the world for everything. Just in case you are wondering, I'm more of the arrogant dreamer, with a soft side only my family knows about.

I am quite tired now, so I am prolly really loosening up on this.

Ya know. When I think about a lot. I think it really is friends that matter to me the most. The last few years has been really crappy. If I didn't have friends that gave me emotional support I prolly would have either done very stupid stuff or not be here now.

So. I think it is indeed good friends that I value the most. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Please give your definition of happiness. I'm rather bored, and I could always use a good laugh. If you don't feel like it, then I suppose that's perfectly fine (this is FKL afterall, and not Off Topic).

Keep in mind, I do not think pleasure is hapiness. Hell, I doubt many of us here have ever actually experienced what I define as happiness (I will tell you what I think it is, but only if you request it, and if I am in the mood to do so when I wake up in a few hours).

Unfortunately, I'd have to say love at the moment. I have no idea as to why or how or whatever other explanations there might be, but I think I truly do love another person, and that seems to take priority over everything else.

I used to be me. I used to be fucking focused and down-to-earth. This love has rekindled within me and now I just can't get her off of my mind. I'm truly pathetic right about now, and I can only hope that atleast some of you can understand how I feel, but doesn't love just make you do the stupidest goddamn things? I do things just to see her face that I wouldn't normally do - every meeting between us, no matter how short is a gift from God. Perhaps I'm just subconsciously self-destructive - I WANT to set myself up for letdown, I WANT her to have a life without me, I WANT her to be... happy.

Ain't this THE truth?

I saw Bruce Almighty. I understood your "joke." I sat there in theaters hearing Jim Carey and Morgan Freeman saying the same stupid line over and over again. I didn't respond your joke, because it was not actually funny. In case you missed my point, I HATE BRUCE ALMIGHTY WITH A PASSION. Pathetic excuse of a movie. For an actual reason as to why, feel free to click here (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=79300&forum=9&start=15). (my post would be the very large one that got quoted unneccesarily, but that never actually got any feedback)

As always, if anyone bumps the thread I just gave a link to, Martin Sheen will come to your house and eat your first born child. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: Like DarthFomar wrote further down after this post, THIS IS ALL OPENT TO INTERPRETATION. It's fine that he liked the movie. I didn't. That's just my opinion. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

If love doesn't bring the slightest bit of happiness, it isn't love. How can you love something without the slightest feeling of happiness about loving it? Love is a positive feeling, and the genre of positive feelings is classified as happiness, so you see, with everyone that wants to enjoy life (the majority of people in general), happiness is essential, whether or not they conciously realise it.

Love -----> Happiness (maybe, perhaps, if you're extremely fortunate in life)

Best friend -------> Happiness NO! Yes, friends are great. Still, for the most part, they only bring momentary joy (not happiness). Momentary joy is what? Yup, a form of pleasure.

Food --------> Happiness NO NO NO! Food brings momentary pleasure (at best). Your idea of happiness sounds almost stone-age in manner. All forms of life on this planet have a source of food. Are you implying that they are truly happy?

Happiness --------> Happiness Happiness IS happiness. Happiness does not lead to itself. This one hurts my brain.

Again, I really really do not want to write up my definition of happiness. Just please, stop posting this! Its hurts'a my brain!!!111oneoneone. Don't take offense to any of this, Antimony. I like you alot, especially after the nice things you wrote about my guide, but I just really disagree with your post, that's all.

I thought what Aredhel wrote about love was just fucking beautiful (really). It makes you wonder what the significance of TRUE love (if there is such a thing) is. I believe there are a few things (very very few) in life that lead to true fullfillment (aka happiness - NOT PLEASURE). To name a few: wisdom and true love.

EDIT: Friends might lead to happiness. But the only way I see that happening is if something you've shared in life with a friend leads to wisdom (one of my defined sources of happiness)

Ok, firstly I'm not trying to start an argument, god forbid, I'm merely trying to express my point of view http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Right, first off, the easiest one http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Happiness ----> Happiness

If you are happy, you are happy that you are happy. You KNOW you're happy about it. Perhaps the arrow is a little misleading, but basically, in knowing you are happy, you are happy http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

As you can see, my definition of happiness is 'being happy', aka, the opposite of being sad. In effect, feeling warm inside and positive.

ok, next:

Friend ---> Happiness.

In my view, no happiness is permenant. I can see the perspective you see this from though - You see happiness as lifelong, to be fully content with what you have, for the remainder of your life, no? I can see why you will see it in this way, it is implied in the context of the topic, but it isn't really what I was trying to get at. As I said just before, I see hapiness as any form of joy, no matter how spontaneous or lengthy. In this way, why do you have friends? Because you like being around them. Why do you like being around them? Because they make you happy. Ok, so you might go home at the end of the day and completely forget about them, but you experienced happiness because of them.

Love ----> Happiness.

I don't really think I should reiterate, but I will anyway. You love because it makes you feel nice; warm inside. When something bad happens to a relationship in which you love, the bad feeling you get is not the love talking, it is, in crude terms, 'the temporary withdrawal' of your love. Therefore, love makes you happy, no matter what. If you love, you are happy. Anything that makes you sad during the period of loving is due to other circumstance.

For example, your girlfriend is pissing you off, trying to make you buy her something that you don't like. You love her very much, and this makes you happy. It is the fact that she is ANNOYING you that takes away the happiness of love, the positive feelings, and replaces them with negative feelings. A simple example, but it's late, and I can't think of anything better at the moment.

Food ----> Happiness.

This is the only one on which my confidence has wavered slightly. I believe that if you are eating something you like, obviously you are happy (i.e. it has brought you happiness) , but I accept your point that there is no direct connection for this. I realised the reason for this is that food is a NECESSITY for living, whereas none of the others listed are. As it fits in this catagory, it can be labelled to creatures other than humans, which destroys the idea of there being happiness directly involved with it.

Of course, you will no doubt see things in a different view from me; after all, we are all different. But if you don't agree, at least the option of agreeing to disagree will never be removed. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Looking at it from your perspective (the way you define happiness varies greatly from mine), I can agree 100% with what you just wrote. Seeing as how we don't have the same opinion in regards to happiness (my idea of happiness goes far beyond ideas of just one lifespan, and istead carries over into future metaphysical possibilities), I will gladly agree to disagree. Good talk > Antimony. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif
