I think i would be be halarious if it was PS2/Xbox exclusive http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Yuji Naka also stated that a HDD unit was necessary in the next evilution of PSO

Microsoft hired the translator. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_evil.gif
Oh, an wouldnt it be an assumption that Naka was refering to PSO2 as the next evolution? He didn't specificaly say it was.... Guess we'll have to wait an see. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/eviltongue.gif

I'm guessin it'll be called Phantasy Star Online: Episode III then.

shinokou
06-29-2002, 11:49 AM
no this is a true sequel. i wont say that the episode III title is out of the question, but ep. II is not a sequel, just an addon...

oh, an i must say that it would be a pretty bad move to alenate us GC people, after always hearing that if you like sonic team, get a GC! I really hope somebody puts out a GC hd, is there any news at all on the prospect of this, even from some third party???

Don't worry, it'll come to the cube. Who said Sonic Team was going to develop for the PS2?

amoralist

I'd personally prefer a (whats the word I'm looking for?) simultaneous, integrating network for all systems to access. In another words, multi-platform it: no system biasing. No one would complain except for the HL and fees like XBLive(now Microsoft is a monopoly http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ).

But then again, would Sonic Team put that much work and prevent hacking, or will they do it away with one of those PC style hacker's ship and etc. ?? eh??

I doubt that if there was gona be a proper sequel it would be called PSO2.
Wouldnt it be confusing to have:
Phantasy Star Online Ver.2
Phantasy Star Online Episode II
Phantasy Star Online 2

From what I hear Episode II is being treated as the proper sequel (hence why it has the same amount of levels as Episode I). Ver.2 was the "add-on"

Yes. The post before me is right. but all of you are stupid morons. Ep2. MUST BE A TRUE SEQUAL if it has all new levels and a new story dumbasses. Ver.2 was considered an add on. and why the fuck would sonic team make a PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2? that's stupid they should just continue on with Ep.3 Ep4. with enw levels new magic's and adding shit like having teams able to combine magic to do cool attakcs like fire storm or some shit. now that's whad i'd like to see in the next adventure.

PSO EPII is an add on or expansion. It uses the exact same engine as before and is more or less the ecact same game. PSO II should (well maybe not knowing sega) be an entirely new game.

Malkavian

Yeah sonic team has a good sense of sequel. Not like core with the tomb raiders, or square with ff.
Yuji naka said PSO ep 1&2 is just a new version an improve of the original PSO. Not a true sequel.
In a true sequel everybody will be a newbie cause it will be a NEW game not the same game with more maps, items or little changes

Doesnt EpII use a reworked engine of EpI?? the new levels look way to detailed to have been made using the original engine unless it had been altered to take advantage of the GCs enhanced graphical capabilities. i may be misinformed tho... and i jus noticed this has little to do wiv the thread... ahh well!

A true sequel would use an entirerly new engine+ storyline. imo a final fantasy style COMPLETELY new story line(ie. nuthin to do wiv the pioneer project/ Ragol) would be the best move. on the same note i wouldnt mind following the pioneer project as it carries on wiv an EpIII+IV etc... a storyline involving a nomadic pioneer2 doesnt sound to bad in my opinion...

Malkavian

The story line doeasn't matter, the way to play the game does. In ep1&2 even with new areas and some changes we'll play like we already know the game.

Is there a real change to the whole gameplay system is it just reworked to balance it? The storyline is just an add-on to episodeI. What we see here is probably gonna be a saga of episodes until the real sequel lands on some next generation system: better yet, multi-platform it.

Well sonic team said they are doing extra versions for now. And a true sequel won't come soon

New levels and characters dont define a sequel. What defines a sequel is improved gameplay(not always, but most of the time),Better graphics(if they're smart), Originality( again, not always, but this is for GOOD sequels) and hopefully a new interface altogether(kinda like gameplay).

I simply Pray that Sonic Team will release it for the Cube or PS2. I mean why release your game on a system that is pretty much failing and costing it's developer's huge amounts of money. Altough, I've heard Microsoft has been paying companies (mainly Sega) to develope games for them.

It'd be great for a reworked battle system. Can you imagine an overworld? and just walking in on some one doing free style combos ( EXample Devil May Cry). Jumping would also be nice. I know this a lil out there but who knows.

Flame

lol...jumping? Why not just make it an online action game while your at it. I think each weapon type should come with at least two types of combos and would let you pick your own combo. But, what I'd really go for was if you'd actually learn new combos as you level up. ( lol maybe you could chain combos together for a huge combo! lol just a thought. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif)

Maybe he meant jumping like in the Zelda games on N64. Like your character would automatically jump over a small gap or off a small ledge. Maybe onto the De Rol Le/Dal Ra Lie's back so you can start hacking at him while he's in the water or something...

SMOKU_9X
07-04-2002, 04:55 PM
Yeah, if jumping high continuously to escape or make an advantage in a battle wouldn't be a RPG game, just an action game. Zelda jumps is what PSO needs. PSO's battle system is just as any other except you can see your opponent and it come after you, you can escape, you have all the action grids as in any other. So jumping besides Zelda jumps would be out of the question, But an intresting thought.

it would be fun if PSO was redone as an MMORPG... but ONLY if ST recreated the way MMORPGS are. A totally new, actually FUN way to play that sort of game...

I don't mean to be the party pooper or anything but what is the point in talking about this if it's coming out in a couple years TBA, while ep2 is coming out in a few months! ^ ^;

Nah, add an extraslot for 5 player games, and add up on the monsters in online play.

I admit that PSO Episode 2 isn't a "proper" sequel. However when the true sequel is released I think it'll be given the name "PSO Episode III" to carry on the theme and not cause confusion.

As I've said, having a Ver.2, Episode 2 and PSO2 would be ridiculous.

To me, a true sequecl would be a mix of PSO elements in a game that would be turned base like the good ol PS of the serie aaah, what a dream. *dreams on

I have to admit I HATE random battles with a passion, If they were in a new Phantasy Star game then I'd still play it but I'd much prefer real-time battling.

Is star wars 5 not a sequal to starwars 4? if not then i guess i'm crazy and pso ep2 isn't a sequal to epsiode 1. you know just think about it. "LOCICK"
