I've been wondering (since seeing it in an EB and having a lightbulb flicker into existence above my head) if a PS2 iType 2 controller (the PS2 controller with the teeny-weeny keypad on it) and a PS2-to-GC adaptor could be a worthy substitute for the pricey ASCII keyboard/controller combo.
Has anyone tried this?

Yes, the SharkBoard/PowerBoards work... BARELY.
It is well documented that the adaptors to said devices overheat, causing massive lag, dropped letters, and to add to that, the symbols are never completely where they should be on the keys, or are alogether absent, making simple emoticons a pain in the ass (I have a semicolon, for example, but no colon or underscore, making simple gestures such as :/ or >_< impossible... and believe me, I've looked! My PowerBoard is also missing its apostrophe...)! I suppose it's all right for those of you out there (and that would be most of you) who write without the proper speling, grammar, and punctuation, but such things pain me to no end.
If I'm going to write something, I want to write it, and try not to appear a chuckletard in the process. I also want to cut my costs, which is why an ASCII keyboard controller is out of the question (with a used one often selling at over $60). I asked this to a) see if anyone had dome it before as an alternative to cheap, crappy GC keyboards or overpriced imports, and b) draw attention to the fact that there may be an alternative out there for people who suffer peoblems such as mine.
And lastly, I'm not a dude... check the member profile before you decide to lump me in with the [rest of post deleted due to excessive ussage of expletives so early in the morning]
