Let me give you some words of advice/comfort.

The problem you are facing with here is "relativity". Einstein coined the phrase many years ago when he was posting fan-art on these very boards.

When your work is compared to that of the more... well experienced artists then relatively speaking, your art work is going to come off badly in comparrison. It's a sad fact but other artists will also suffer a similar fate.

You also have to remember that the average viewer cannot put into words a way of giving constructive critisism without sounding like they are saying "it's crap".

If you want pointers perhaps PMing a friendly passing artist for opinions would be good, certainly posting to deviantArt as you're doing now is definitely helpful since it's an art community.

But just remember, people don't have to comment, whether it's art or stories, the same is always true. Find a way to deal with it.

Okay, sorry for being a bitch. I've been very irritated recently, mostly with myself. the thing is, I know that it will be compared, and I know that nobody is obliged to comment. It's just that very few people even bother to look, let alone comment, whether online or in real life. I'm not an experienced artist, but it's still saddening and somewhat embarassing when you post something you've worked hard on and are proud of, and people who you rely on for constructive criticism don't even acknowledge that you've made an effort.

Rubbish: Yes, I'm overreacting. I've been getting pissed off a lot recently. I'll check out those links, too.

Nisshouko: The sprites aren't much trouble. I just need a way to resize them without distorting them.

about the resizing, if possible use .png over .jpg as it has lossless compression. The file sizes are generally larger, but you won't suffer from compression artifacts (jaggies).

Also make sure that when you resize, it preserves the "aspect ratio".
