View Full Version : My good friend named Grammar

Although I have been studying the No-Grammar language for quite some time now (1.5 years), I still cannot understand many people I see on message boards. Hell, after being on message boards for about 2 years now, I finally learned what IIRC means...

"okey whutyouwant me todo"
Translation: Okay. What do you want me to do?

Is that so hard to speak a little bit of (proper) english? Im sure it is coming from this generation of children/teenagers.

The following is real footage from what I was talking to someone before we played an online game of the Pokemon TCG (yes, I play it. Happy?)

Player 2: OMG!!!!111!!! IM g01ng t0 r0x0rz y0ur s0x0rz!!!11!!!
Me: can you please speak english?
Player 2: LOLz!!11!!! N0// 3y3 kn0w U h4v3 n0 5k1ll5!!!11!!!
Me: Whatever... Just... whatever...

*6 prizes later*

Player 2: OMG!!11!!! H0// D4r3 U H4x!!11!! 3y3 tru5t3d j00!!!
Me: I'm not gonna say anything since you won't believe me.
Player 2: kk! j/k. *leaves*

Just to futhur prove my point, I leave you with a comic...

People tend to be lazy. Most kids ARE lazy. Hence, the shit grammar and retarded spelling. Damn majority of kids.

EDIT: Not all kids are dumbfucks. =D

I saw a bit about this on the local news a week or two ago. According to the kid being interviewed, "We do it just 'cause it's faster and easier, I mean, we don't have to write like that outside of school work, right?"

How horribly ignorant of them.

No, it's not kids being lazy. It takes far longer to type stupid.

Well, obviously, 'u' is much faster than, 'you.'

By stupid, I mean 1337. '3y3' is just... come on. I > 3y3

I should've said most. There are a few good ones. Like Sagasu, and some cool Freshmen in my Forensics class.

Yeah. Pokemon wouldn't easily lend itself to mature individuals or just people willing to type properly, regardless of age or maturity. I hope you didn't expect much there, but you can agree its fun to copy/paste quotes from there, eh?

This?
"Hey. You were pretty good. You beat me pretty handily back there. How did you do that?" http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_no.gif

No, this!:
"d00d o/mg lIkE u AR s00 hAxORZorz!!1!!!!11" Or translated: "I can't admit to being beaten by ANYONE else. I'm the best because I said so!" http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

But then again this ALL gets thrown out the window considering some people will be immature on purpose when using the internet!

...man that n00b crap is hard to type!...funny I witnessed a past friend jab the shift button constantly within AIM whilst typing! ARGH! Terrible.

Fixed. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I've made complaints about how lazy people type these days. Most of the people I talk to online don't have A shorthand problem. It's not really nessicary. Try saying phrases like 'lol' and 'omg' in a real life conversation. You sound like a damn caveman. A step BACKWARDS from our current massed intelligence. Humanity has formed words now, we don't have to communicate with clicking noises.

"omg" is acceptable. "Oh, my God". Unless, of course, you say "Oh Em Gee" in your head.. which would be that step backwards. "lol" is internet lingo, can't do much about it.

But, one ironic thing I would like to point out:

My good friend named Grammar

You must not be friends with spelling XPPP
Just kidding though, common typo.

SpikeOtacon

No no no, you failed to see my point.

Say them out loud in a conversation.

LOL= Laul
OMG= Ohmgh
LMAO= Llmayo

It's all cavemen speak if you say it aloud. You sound stupid saying it in person, so don't use it online. Take that few extra seconds to type out the full word.

I've said it before and I'll fucking say it again. English isn't even my first language and yet I speak and write it better than at least 80% of all Americans out there!!

You know, Spike, people in France say "lol" aloud http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif and some other internet short forms, too ( http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif again)

Edit:
This applies to me, too http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Some American kids I know to the same thing. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

@Kodiax: http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

I find it easier to type properly, because I can type. Most kids just don't know/are too lazy to learn to type correctly.

Any educated individual would know that "lmao" is not pronounced "llmayo"; it's clearly "lum-oww". Considering the average intelligence of today's youth, the future looks dark and dreary, indeed.

I don't care as long as I can understand it. Now if we were writing a term paper and you wrote like that...then you lose.

One of those G4 Tech TV weirdo hosts just tried to pronounce "teh suxorz" on television.

I almost threw something at the TV, but then decided against it and laughed instead with a face of shock and disapproval. Also maybe a for-shame look as well.

This is evidence of why internet speak does not work in actual real life practice and conversation.

Completely unrelated, I read about some guy who can use his thumbs to type out cell phone text messages in record time. Using full words, punctuation, and grammar. Take that weirdo kids with your crazy waste of time net speak!

From what I can recall from a few days ago, it went like this:

*setting*
X-Play G4 Tech TV show
Hosts dressed up as scientists

*dialogue*
-Points to chalkboard-
Gamecube owners tell us online when we review new Gamecube games that our reviews were (TUH SUU sores).

It went something like that. I tried to write it phonetically, or how he pronounced it.

The show seems to be rerun during the week and a few times a day. You can't miss it if you look for it.

Yes. It was pretty ridiculous. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I have always hated that "it is faster" excuse for "omg, it is teh shrthnd cuz itz fastur 2 type 4 us!11!1".

The one person selfishly saves a few seconds typing while causing the 500 people reading and deciphering it more time than if it had just been written properly.

The only time I use shorthand is when I'm typing something with the controller keyboard and the whole sentence won't fit..

I have a keyboard adapter but I haven't tested whether or not it allows you to use more than 2 small lines of text... I'm only guilty of saying something like this;
________________
" /hey, r u rdy to/
/do C7,come 2 L5/"
---------------

Yes. I HATE when people type like that. It's so annoying and hard to read. How is some of it easier, I is much "easier" to type then eye. Heh, you never know with n00bs.
