People seem to think that swords require more skill than a gun to wield.

Why is this?

Are Internet goers so blinded by their love of anime that all fired weapons are dishonerable? Is Kenshin really that cool? Mitsurugi of Soul Calibur/Blade?

Bladed weapons have little place on the battlefield except in rare melee events, guerilla warfare, and espionage/general sneakery.

Discuss.

for a guy with a blade to kill a guy with a gun he must have some talent, either that or the guy with the gun is retarded

For a sword to always be better then I gun then yes, You need a HELL of alot of skill >_>

but then again you don't see a guy with a sword running down a mine field to try and kill the guys on the other side who are shooting at him http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

anywhere outside of a video game, Gun > Sword

o.o? where did my other half of it go? ._.

Actually, I suppose if you're in close-quarters, (mostly because I trust what Metal Gear tells me), wouldn't hand-to-hand weapons be more useful than a gun when fighting if you are a skilled fighter?

I mean, if Snake says it, it must be true, right?

Then again, he never used a sword...

Actually, Mitsurugi is pretty fuckin' badass. Second outfit + Masamune = 0wnage. =D

But, in real life, guns > blades most of the time. In close quarters, I think a blade, or maybe some kind of blunt melee weapon, would be better. That's just me.

And the next time someone says GUNS ARE TEH DISHONURALBE!!1, I will point out that there were probably many innocent people who were killed with blades by samurai, since they were simply tools of the Shogun.

*ahem*

As one who has years of experience in handling both, I can safely assure you that you'll get your ass handed back to you if you attempt to samurai charge some granny with a pistol.

Its not called the great equalizer for nothing.

Whereas myself, I prefer to have both handy.

I would also like to point out that the samurai were fully entitled to use the villagers to test the sharpness of their swords.

No questions asked.

You understand how terrible an idea a Gunblade is, right?

The odds that the bullet would hit the actual blade are way too high, especially with the Revolver design that Squall used.

Although, it took me until this year to finally realize where the gun-part of Seifer's gunblade was. (It's clip-loading, which is pretty cool. Yeah, I know, it's 2005 and the game came out years ago. Get off my back.)

If Mitsurugi was real, and he really could deflect bullets with a sword like in Soul Blade, he would still get his ass whooped. I'd love to see him deflect bullets from a fully automatic. Dance Mitsurugi Dance!!!

Ya, but like, if you had it designed correctly it would work fine.

That would require an improbability field.

Anyway, a Gun Blade would be so innacurate that it wouldn't be worth it.

Colt .45 > Gun Blade. Heck, Fists > Gun Blade.
