Nope, what happens in the chat doesn't reflect the PSOW forums at all. While some of the same people help run it, what goes on in chat doesn't reflect what happens on PSOW.

And, as always, if someone doesn't like how it's ran, don't go there. Plenty of other chats and forums out there.

Skorpius already apologized(and that wasn't the issue) but I want to add my two cents, not to take sides either.

It is allowed of other members to easily block out what the #psow visitor was saying. Most would rather hear Shurikane out to the full extent.

He was kicked then tried to re-enter every time he was kicked out, only to be kicked out again.

Some things will not be tolerated and that probably was not all of what was said to come to such an event.

Bad typing and "being bored" are a few examples of things not tolerated, to a certain extent.

In the member's defense, he may not have had much experience in chatrooms/IRC and did not know to follow all the rules for EACH chatroom.

The IRC channel doesn't move lightning quick sometimes. New users have a tendency to not adjust to the change from their norm and continue to post quick bursts of nothingness.

"I'm not going to do what you say!" mentality maybe?
"I don't want to read or follow the rules(Why did you ban me, what did I do?)!"

#psow is a fun place. Just follow the rules like you would anywhere else. It is not that hard and the rules don't bend to fit every new user.

Someone needs to take off the chat link on the front page. Similar issues of this type of moderating have arose on numerous occasions. It's obvious that the channel opertators are annoyed by unknown users frequenting the channel, so maybe it's best that the channel goes private. No one ever talks about PSO, and the rules are pretty rediculous for any new user to really follow perfectly http://www.pso-world.com/faq.php?myfaq=yes&id_cat=23&categories=IRC

And I know the "if you don't like the rules, get out" statement. That's fine, but every few months a topic pops up that deals with a user having issues with a random channel operator. So why not just eliminate the problem instead of ranting and crying about it?

obviously, the user was persistant and imposing late into the chat sessions, but he was just trying to be friendly, and he became irritated when you guys started being smart asses.

Also, just because someone types in shorthand doesn't mean they're ignorant towards proper grammer. I must admit I am annoyed by shorthand typing, but is it really that big of a deal?

What irritates me the most is this fucking topic. This has been a problem for three years now, and most of the same operators still run the channel.

For people that complain about #psow being brutal. Let me tell you a story. I was just hopping into some channel. I asked a question that no one have asked before, I was warned of a kick. Then I changed my nick and had an away message popped up. I was kick/banned. No forewarning, no nothing.

Since my last quotes from GREENDAY1, some good things have happened, namely the bannination of all anonymous AOL addresses. That means that PSOanons using AOL are autokicked with a message to log on to their PSO World account and try again (hey zomg, we're being friendly here!)

Another really cool thing was that I fixed the welcome script!!! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif It happened that the script basically kicked in too soon and somehow the message didn't get to destination. So I set it to kick in after a short delay. Now everyone who comes in gets the house rules. Got it tested extensively.

Several things the guy did wrong here:
1) Failed to click links when given in the first place (happened before the excerpt. He didn't even see 'em even though we pasted the correct links multiple times)
2) Typoed his own nick (how the FUCK do you do that?!)

So proceeding from that: you say you got kicked for a nick that's too long. Since you know IRC, then you'll have noticed only the nick was banned, giving you the opportunity to come back. Hence, three possibilities:

A) You didn't bother coming back.

B) You repeatedly rejoined with the same nick, for whatever reason. That's a good way to get a more thorough ban (and that's what happens the most in nickname cases.)

C) You rejoined under a valid nick and then threw a temper tantrum over the nick length rule. Considering the correlation you make between the rule and homosexuality, my little finger's telling me all signs point to possibility C.

And what the hell, I'll tell you why it was made so. Back when we were at EFnet, you didn't have a choice at all: nicks were 9 characters or lower across the entire network. When we moved to ForeverChat, we found the place had no real limit to speak of.

It was only a matter of time before a bunch of smartasses joined under huge-big-mega-long-ass-nick-screen-names-that-are-longer-than-you-would-ever-believe-and-are-pretty-much-a-pain-to-look-at-every-single-damned-time-they-enter-a-line-on-the-channel-and-I-hope-this-little-avant-gout-simulation-was-convincing-enough-for-ya.

So the ops got together and said: "we'll limit the nick length in our channel to 12."

And to answer your question about affiliation: the forum and the chatroom decided not to have an official affiliation because their rules, the philosophy behind the rules and the people who operate the two places are different. The forums are tightly moderated to fit the PG-13 crowd, while the chatroom cuts more slack and allows R content. That's all.

If I was #psow troll, I would be not only joining the channel and spamming but I would also say things to deliberately hurt its userbase. All the comments I have made were not made with the thought of them in mind. These comments were simply to express my opinion and situation with #psow to aid to the various points in this thread that question #psow's policies and haste to kick/ban, which again I disagree with.

Well of course, its not like #psow is some magical channel that automatically demonizes anyone who enters it. This goes the same with all places of the internet, if you go from place to place with the same handle or name you're going to act in a relatively similiar way to uphold your reputation. The problem is that #psow is comprised of people who already have the reputation of being elitist (in my eyes anyway). This is one of the reasons why Failchan (aka 4chan, obviously you didn't catch the reference.) is such a hell hole, anonymity.

I was banned from #psow long before Failchan (aka 4chan, incase you can't get that reference) enforced its new policies. The reason Failchan (aka 4chan) sucks now isnt because they took out invasions, banned jailbait or cp. People started using "gay" as a derogatory term because it was synonymous with another homosexual slang "queer" which originally only meant strange. I don't usually use gay as a derogatory remark unless I have no intention of being impressing or witty to the persons in which Im insulting. Your examples of being japanese if you like robots and being a "mall goth" if you wear baggy pants are completely with out merit, because robots and baggy pants arent completely synonymous with being Japanese or a mall goth. There are robots made outside of Japan, and all sorts of people wear baggy clothing, mostly because its comfortable. Who are you to know about my life?

All I'm saying is that if being a callous bully to other people you don't know, because they highlight meager errors online, is all you're really about, then people like that deserve to be alone for the rest of their lives.

Everyone here was in a similar position as those other people who are ridiculed (including Kodia), in real-life and online. Just because you had shit from other people in the past, is no reason to act hostile towards other people in order to move up the social ladder.

If it was any of your close friends or family getting picked on for being weird or whatever, you lot wouldn't act so indifferent like any of you would with the #psow chatroom. You would look out for them.

But enjoy it all while you can (don't let common sense or a bit of compassion get in the way). People who bully deserve retribution. And those who turn a blind eye to it, deserve it too.
