Is that bad? Jocks just got AIM and they're making stupid hell out of it. It's the same ones in my last rant. They keep IMing me the stupidest things:

"So lik we hve skol 2moro" Did I not know that? We have to show our PowerPoints tomorrow, OF COURSE I KNOW.

Well, the other day.....

Jock: What are you reading?
(The title CLEARLY says "Japanese" on it)
Me: Take a guess.
Jock: Russian?
I plainly look at him and walk away.

At lunch....

Other Jock: What the fuck you readin'?
(The title CLEARLY says "The Total Idiot's Guide to French")
Me (saying sarcasticly): Porn.
Other Jock: CAN I SEE?
Me: Je ne parlez pas langue des idiots.

So what? I am better than you. And yes, I am well aware of the "block" button, it's just fun to see them be stupid.

News flash: Yes, the world will end soon. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif And I am not kidding by a far lot.

I pitty that your Jocks actually figured out what AIM is, or even online for that matter.

Hehehe...I should play some tricks on them like that... http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_yes.gif

Guess I am a bit lucky in that the jocks here just ignore me. Well, all except one, but he's kinda funny in a weird way. I've had similar experiences... heck, during middle school I was hailed as "Russian Boy" as I was always carrying around my Russian dictionary. And that's the way to look at it, the more stupid they become the more fun for the rest of us.

XD

Yes. It's really funny to laugh at just how dumb they are.

Also, how could one of them figure out how to use a computer? AIM? They probably have spelling problems and you can't understand what they are trying to say. Who cares, it's entertainment.

It's amazing.

Jocks, for the most part, are complete airheads and stupid people that fail school and are only good at being idiot running on a court.

On the other hand, intelligent people like ourselves are the ones that are hated, get all the shit from people, and other such non-pleasent things.

Welcome to America -_-

Happens in the animal world too.

Well I don't know if there is such thing as an intelligent animal in the wild either.

Yeah, the jock = stupid thing has always seemed like a stupid stance to me.

There are stupid people everywhere; sports, band, and yes, even the internet.

Picking out the stupid people that stand out can just as easily be done to almost any subculture, not just jocks.

It's not that we're hated, it's that jocks are the group that get seen. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and the loudest voice is heard-- it's the same reason why the minorities in our country get larger advantages. It's not because their differences or handicaps are really cared about, it's because they shout the loudest.

I simply love the profiling done in here. Would someone like to give the definition of a jock? If it's a person who just plays sports then calling the whole lot stupid, dumb, etc. is like finding one lazy Mexican and figuring that they as a people are all lazy. I'm athletic, I'm good at sports. The equation of

athletic + sports player = dumbass

simply doesnt work for the whole.

HUnewearl_Meira

There are always exceptions to the rules, Jehosaphaty. Stereotypes don't exist because of the habits of single individuals. They exist because of a startling majority exhibiting the same behavior.

For example:

You may, on occasion, come across a n00b that knows what he's doing. They are, however, quite rare. The stereotype exists that n00bs are unknowledgeable and tend to do things wrong.

You may find a dedicated Trekkie that does well with attractive women. A Captain Kirk among red-shirted crewmen, so to speak. This is again, uncommon. The stereotype exists that dedicated Trekkies are generally inept at talking to women, and are therefore, typically do not do well with women.

It may also happen by chance, that you will find a jock that not only has a 4.0 GPA, but also takes a number of AP courses. This, however, does not generally happen, because jocks tend to be too busy with sports practice to maintain especially high grades. Furthermore, Jocks are in sports because they accell in sports, not academics. If they found their talents in academics rather than physical activities, they probably would not be playing sports. This is just the way it works.

Life is full of logical filters, and it is because of these filters that stereotypes are born. N00bs are full of blunders that irritate many of us because they are indeed, ignorant of what is expected. Dedicated Trekkies are generally unsucessful with women because it takes a great deal of desire to escape from one's life to become that interested in a fictional universe. Finally, jocks tend to be unintelligent or otherwise unknowledgeable because they've spent their lives persuing physical activities rather than knowledge. This is just the way things work. Don't take it personally.

Again, there are always exceptions to the rules.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, i guess you did not find the sarcasim in "If i find one lazy Mexican, then all Mexicans must be lazy." I will agree that the majority generally sets the tone for a group.

It doesn't happen by chance that someone excels in academics. I wouldn't go so far either as to say that because they are busy is the reason their grades are bad. Application is the key word here. Many jocks, scratch that, many kids in general just don't apply themselves in highschool. I'd acredit this to the reason jocks grades could be bad, rather than they are simply too busy. Let's take our varsity basketball team: of the 15 players on the squad, 8 maybe 9, players do better than average in school, and of those, I know at least 3 are in their classes top 10% including myself. The other half or so of the players aren't necessarily stupid, they simply don't apply themselves. If you can't get a B-C average in high school, and you don't have mental handicaps, then something is wrong.

Furthermore, Jocks are in sports because they accell in sports, not academics. If they found their talents in academics rather than physical activities, they probably would not be playing sports.

Interesting to say the least. This is true in some cases; however, be realistic: most kids aren't going to college or pro in the sports the play. Furthermore, this is why sports should be a by-product of class work. It's not I know, but it should. My talents are in both physical activities and in academics and I know many others who are in the same boat; yet, we still play sports because we enjoy them, and our studies. It doesn't have to be a one or the other situation.Generalities I've personally witnessed, take it or leave it whatever.

As to Kodias quote:

"The young boy you are torturing at your high school may just be the one who will audit your income tax report in twenty years."

Remember these fine words:

"The young jock you make so much fun of may be the one sleeping with your wife in twenty years."

And I don't guarantee he'll ask for an encore.

Barring examples of standard rules being bent or ignored to keep a talented player in the game, you also won't find a jock with a D average, seeing as a failing grade is grounds to remove a player from the team.

On the other hand, you're also comparing someone who watches Star Trek because he's generally entertained by it to someone who has several racks devoted to VHS cassettes and DVDs of each Star Trek series, a fine collection of prostetic Vulcan Ears and Klingon foreheads, speaks fluent Klingon, and sleeps with a blow-up doll wearing an old Star Fleet uniform and a picture of Leiutenant Uhura's face glued to it.

None of this annoyance has been pointed in the direction of generally good students who participate in school sports because it's an amusing pass-time. Those are simply students. Playing a sport once or twice a week, then moving on the rest of the week to pay attention to another subject does not make you a jock any more than watching an episode of Star Trek on TV once a week makes you a Trekkie.

It's the guys that structure their entire lifestyle around their sport of choice that Aunt_Betty is annoyed with. While it's possible for one of these fellows to achieve a perfect Grade Point Average, it's quite unlikely. Furthermore, while it's possible for these individuals to maintain a conversation on the internet while performing acceptable standards of spelling and grammar, once again, the odds are not in favor of you witnessing it.

Jehosaphaty
Mar 12, 2005, 01:26 AM
For the most part I'd agree with what you said. "Jocks" being those who are totally enraptured in sports and whose brains function at the level of a 3rd grader. However...

...There are very few kids at the highschool level, who play in very competitive team sports, and do so only as a fleeting activity. You must practice, workout, etc. in order to make the team. It's all relevant to how you want to define a "jock" or your "trekkie." I'm not defending morons, simply trying to make you see that one who lives sports and studies could be considered a jock and just maybe not an idiot, though I'll agree they are rare.
