I got ep3 not too long ago, i love the stronger sence of story, and the card battleing, though maybe not quite perfect, is fun to play. But i have a really annoying problem, i keep getting really bad grades (mostly e...sometimes d) I think i've heard that better grades usually give better cards so i'm wondering if there is any tips on improveing my grades? (i play hunters more than arks..arks take forever to play and if i do win, it's defnitely an e grade)
thanks http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
If you want to get a high rank, you essentially need to do to a lot of damage to the enemy in a short period of time while taking little damage yourself.
Generally the easiest way to do this is to use a Hunter against an Arkz player that deploys lots of monsters. Equip a strong weapon and use action cards that can attack multiple squares. Also try to use attack cards that you can use in combination for even higher point totals. Keep a decent number of low cost def cards in your deck and you should be good.

Ryna pretty much covered it. Just keep it fast, short, easy. Take little damage yourself, give lots to them, and do it fast.

Pfft.
You don't have to make it short, that actually gets you a lower rank. Take your time, don't take too much damage, and deal a LOT of damage back.
Basically, you should do 10 minutes worth of severe beating, while blocking quite consistantly, and you should score an S rank easily.
Trust me, I get S-rank far too often. :|
Well, the other method is just to take your time and try to do a lot damage each turn. The goal is to prolong the fight as long possible while you increaase your "damage dealt". The formula for determining your score is primarily based on the following:
1. How much damage you dealt
2. The number of turns it took you to win
3. The amount of damage you took.
The goal in any scenario is to try to keep 3 as low as possible. If you can do a lot of damage each turn, you can offset the losses associated with a longer battle.

From my experience, I've noticed that Damage Delt and Damage Recieved are the top most priority variables in the equation for rank. I'm not quite sure if they truely are, but it's a good bet. Also, using multiple action cards per attack will give you better chances of getting a good rank, but this might just be because of the damage they deal.
A real general idea, as stated, is to beat the shit out of your opponent with high damage while taking little yourself.
Here is the guide that details the formula:

I'm not quite sure if the last part about the guard cards is correct. I remember reading an older thread that the guard card calculation worked differently online.

They do. Instead of registering a block of 99 damage, they either only register the amount you would have taken, or just nullify it completely.

is blocking attacks includeing blocking by shields or just by guard, evade, wall, etc..cards, or both? any good guidelines for a deck setup? I restarted the game (olny lvl 2, playing for a bit over an hour and a half..getting anywhere from e to c+ ranks) at the moment i use a 15/15 mix of item and action cards of all types (hunter side) i have no assist cards yet

I believe that only includes cards like Guard/Wall/Reduce/etc...

For most starting Hunter decks, you should probably aim for the folliwng ratio:
10 weapons
10 action cards
8 def cards
2 assist card
You can find some guides for deck building here:
http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=listarticles&secid=163
You probably won't be able to get "high" ranks consistently until you earn some additional cards.

I'd suggest Assists taking up Action Card spots.

I found it easy to run a Free Battle with Rufina (Arkz), against someone like Lura's first deck. If you can chain 2 or more atk action cards, it's possible to kill Lura instantly with Rufina, using her ability.
Eg: Rufina+Slash+Beat=3(Rufina's damage),+4(doubles Slash damage),+10(doubles Beat's damage)=17. That would kill Lura if HP is set to basic amounts.
or/
Rufina+Slash+Slash+Split Boost (would take 6 AP)
3(Rufina)+4(Slash)+4(Slash)+between 2-12(Split)= minimum of 13, maximum of 23. Quite easy to do if you can draw the cards. This example is incase you dont have the 'Beat' card. Slash and Split are easy to pick up. Good luck!
If you want to go the route that Uriko is proposing, you can also do "Reiz Bashing". That is a method where you select "Free Play" and play against Reiz's first deck. There are a large number of strategies for getting a SRank against this particular deck. Personally, I think it is a lame approach that expoits the incompetence of the COM, but other people seem to think it is ok.

Create a second character.
Transfer over, to that second character, as many 1 point items as possible.
Play 2 player Free Battle using one controller.
With your main character, create an Endu deck consisting of nothing but damaging Action Cards, like Unit Blow, Slash, Stab, SH Attack, Chaotic Attack, etc.
With your second character, create a deck consisting of nothign but 1-2 costing items and Silfer.
Set the ruls to 6:6 rolls.
Set the HP as high as possible.
Play on Tower of Caelum.
Equip as many items as you can with the second character.
Destroy all items with an Endu AC attack.
Repeat until Silfer is defeated.

Or you can do this (http://www.vengefulsoda.com/pso/PSO_Episode_III_-_Easy_Victory.avi)
(I've noticed the DivX codec decompressor is alot slower than the latest XviD codec decompressor. In fact, you don't even need to have the DivX codec decompressor on your machine to view DivX movies, you can just use the XviD one.
I'd recommend people who have slower computers or trouble playing DivX or XviD content to uninstall all versions of XviD and DivX, with the exception of the hacked DivX 3.11 alpha codec, and install the latest XviD codec 1.0.3
You can obtain it from this link (http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/).)

It may help if you can list a couple of the cards you use often (or would like to http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif), since there's no point in us suggesting methods if you dont have the cards http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Ideally, keep low-cost defense cards in, so you can cut damage easily in the event of being attacked. Back these up with low-cost attack cards, such as Slash, Attack, and Stab, and try to chain attack action cards together for a large amount of damage. More damage inflicted/less damage taken= higher rank. Although I will admit that I get bad ranks occasionally, do don't sweat it if you can't get a decent rank, there's a possibility you can get nice cards in E-Rank packs (ive had a Morfos, Panzerfaust, 3x Nano Dragons in D ranks.) Also, with getting bad cards, there comes a chance of the card transforming, usually into something useful, that's how I have a Sinow Red and a Zol Gibbon (from Dagger and Evil Shark respectively) Just keep trying.

that's part of the problem i suppose, i don't really have any cards i like better than others..i usually end up building a deck semi-randomly..however i don't like the basic handgun card much, and i find slash sometimes useful in a ranger deck. How does card transforming work, is it 100% random? And also...do the colors on the top and side of the cards mean anything or just for show?

Try to make the cards in your deck compliment one another, just don't throw them together haphazardly.
One thing you may want to keep in mind while building a deck is to select your weapons so that you will have good odds of filling up your 8 "equipment" slots while in battle. One way of doing this is to have only 5 and 3 cost weapons in your deck. You'd probably want to put in a greater number of lower cost weapons compared to the high cost one.
How does card transforming work, is it 100% random?
When you draw a pack at the end of a battle, each card has a chance of evolving. The odds of a particular card evolving are based on the number of duplicates you have. Take a look at this guide to see the percentages:
http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1866
And also...do the colors on the top and side of the cards mean anything or just for show?
Those colors are extremely significant. Have a look at this guide for what the colors on the side mean:
http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=1536
The top color on a card is the resistance color. Say an opponent is attacking you with a card that has a resistance color of red. If you have a def color that has a resistance color of red, you can use it to defend yourself (assuming you have enough dice). You can read more about the various information related to cards here:

I finally got my first a rank after building a new deck against a hunter, what made me slightly mad is that i olny got a c+ against an arks who olny summoned one creature one turn before i finished the match...well and i managed to lose a few matches after the a rank http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif. As far as the combo thing with the colors and such, it seems i kinda knew about it, i just didn't understand the details (now i realize you can link more depending on the order of the cards you select) hopefully i'll be able to be better as a play more (at the moment i believe i'm at 15 wins, 5-6 losses) perhaps i'll get around to posting my current deck if i ever get around to writing it down http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif)

I find weapons with AP Growth or an effective Revenge to be useful. I remember the Monkey King Bar giving me my 53 damage in one attack. Three Mags + Ancient Saber + Sil'fer is a killer combo 'cause that's 13 initial damage; no attack action cards used! Slap three Musculars into your deck. Each Muscular used would boost each of your Mags AP by 1, as well as your Ancient Saber (keep in mind that this weapon can be easily substituted by another strong 5-cost weapon like the Black King Bar). :o So with every Muscular, that's an extra 4 damage. SW Attack will boost the AP significantly by the second or third Muscular.
AP: 3(Mags)+7(Ancient Saber)+3(Sil'fer)=14 damage
*after two Musculars* AP: 9(Mags, each +2 AP from original)+9(Ancient Saber +2 AP)+3(Sil'fer)=21 damage
It always works for me. =^^=

Id have to agree with the AP growth cards. I use Nano Dragon in my Arkz deck, against Sil'fer's 'Double Hit' deck. Daggers dont have much HP generally, so the Dragon gains AP fast, then launch a killer attack on her. Cards such as Swords Dance and Bullet Storm are pretty useful too.
