how do i make something transparent? winner gets a toffee!

If it's set to BACKGROUND, you'll have to duplicate that layer, and delete the BACKGROUND layer (keeping the BACKGROUND COPY). Then, just erase whatever you want.

Also, you'll need to save the image as a gif or png to keep the transparancy. Keep in mind, gifs don't like Alpha layers (translucent layers) but pngs do.

Another thing about pngs, you should save the background color as something that fits the image, since IE doesn't like trasparent pngs (however, Firefox does).

I'll show you an example.
