View Full Version : My cat is dead

We have to put down my cat, Jasmine, today. (as told about here (http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=97776&forum=9&13))

She had stopped vommiting which allowed her to keep her food down. But in this it made her liver work very hard; raising the 3 areas of testing to levels unable to be displayed on the instruments used by the vet.

I went and visited her yesterday, and today. And I was shocked to see her once gleaming, clear blue water eyes; a dull and sickening green. Her fur is matted and dirty, unable to clean herself. She no longer responded to me petting her as she once did.

I will not be there when she is put down, unable to even bare to see her in so much pain. I thank all of you that prayed for her and kept her in your thoughts. I just know in a few short hours she will be in a better place.

Yeah, I'm making a big deal out of this; I have a soft spot for animals. So please no wise remarks like, "it's an animal, get over it." I'm really not in a mood for that kind of crap.

Her are some pictures of her, at the vet:

And with her and her sister (Mitzi) a few months back:

We took Mitzi to see her sister today; Mitzi hissed at Jasmine. Why? I don't know, maybe she just didn't know who the dying animal in front of her was.

Goodbye Jasmine, we'll miss you.

Damn, I thought it was the white-brown one. I like animals too, and I'm sorry for your cat to go like that. But it isn't really gone forever, its energy just left the body.

Once, I let 5 fish die when I forgot to feed them. I still feel kinda idiot about that. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

I could never see either of my cats in pain... I know how you feel.

Remember the good times. Remember the times you've played with her. Petted her. Or anything you have ever done with her.

Ever since I heard about Jasmine she has had a place in my thoughts. I prayed she would get better and unfortunately they were unanswered this time.

She is very pretty.
Well, on the good side, at least she isn't suffering anymore and went to kitty heaven. Where they can eat fish and chase birds and get pet and sit by fireplaces all day.

I feel sorry for you, toh. I could not bear to have my dog die, he is 10 years old and still as adorable as ever.

At least your cat isn't suffering anymore, and she is in kitty heaven, enjoying it there.

I'm sorry TOH. If it's any comfort, she's much better where she is now. My cat got hit by a car.. won't go into details, It has been 2 years and it hurts to even think about it (I can't get the image of me finding him out of my head).

Sorry you miss her.

:( At least she isn't suffering any longer, as the people who've replied before me have said.

I would fall apart if my cat ever died or got hurt; it must be so terrible. :(

ToH! It has been ages since we've seen each other. It is tragic it must be under these conditions. -Hugs- I am sorry for you cat. I shall give a speech.

I've known... ToH.. for... (insert months here), and never once read about this cat untill now. But it is tragic that his kitty was put down. May his kitty be happy now that she is no longer in pain.

-Goes off to pet her cat-

That is right. I hate people who don't understand what is so upsetting when a pet dies. Like, I talk to my cat, and I love it like a sister...

Hey man, all my feelings are sent out to you. I feel for animals too, I would die just seeing either of my doggies in pain, AS I'VE ALREADY HAD TO WITNESS SO MANY TIMES BY NOW.

But that's life. We can only go along with what it throws at us. Once again, all my feelings go out to you and your family, and may Jasmine rest in peace.

Sorry ToH.
I love cats, have 3 of my own, one of my cats died at 9months, for no reason, so I know it hurts.
RIP Jasmine.

ToH, Might I also suggest, collect all of the pictures you have of jasmine, and cherish them, get one with your other cat and jasmine in the same picture, and buy a nice frame and sit somewhere you usually work or in a nice area you can always see it.

Reason I say this, is that my cat (the one spoke of above), "ruskin", somehow I didn't have any pictures of him. I think I had 'ONE'!!! And I have no idea where it is. So all I remember of him now is finding him on the side of the street. Horrible memory that I wish I could flush from memory, but I can't. Having as many good pictures of ones you once/still love/d, will remind you how good a cat she was.

My main problem with my cat getting hit, is that I feel responsible, not only during his life but after. So not always being able to remember him during life anymore, makes me feel horrible. The problem with your passed loved ones, is that in death, you feel they are watching you in some way, so not having any pictures of mine makes me feel indirectly I didn't love him enough. I wish I had pictures of him. I hope he knows I love him.

Thanks everyone for the replies; it makes her death easier to bare.

I feel bad, as her owner I couldn't notice this early enough to get her the treatment when it could have been stoppped. =/

At least she's in a better place, as Navi first put it, Kitty Heaven. =)

Digi- That's a good idea, and I'm sorry about your cat. I'm she he/she knows you love him. =)

You have my sympathies. Mine died in 1995 on christmas - hit by a car. We had him for 6 years. The biggest lost in my life and we hadn't kept a cat since.

My condolences. I know another PSOer who is going through the exact same situation with her cat. You 2 could probably relate to eachother.

Dude I know how heart breaking that is, I have 3 cats and I would be crushed if anything happened to them. When my dog died I couldn't bring myself to do anything for weeks, but it eventually passed and I as able to get over it. If it will make you feel any better I can post some pictures of my cats for you.
