It depends on how bad the remake is. I've played neither the original Phantasy Star nor the remake Phantasy Star Generation 1, but I've heard the latter's soundtrack, and it's horrifyingly cheerful. Since when the fuck was ANY PS game cheerful?

The cheerfulness was due to the limitations of the Master System sound system. You couldn't have really low notes like you can now (no bass at all). Keeping it cheery from that was just respecting the original while playing the remake.

That was very amusing... XD I liked how Xbox was portrayed as a big, oafish character like I would expect a system of that size to be.

Plus having FX sound like a moogle was pure genius. >.> Kupo!

When I say 'cheerful', I don't mean 'sounds like the obviously somewhat blippy 8-bit original'(Which actually doesn't sound that blippy or cheerful, it sounds about right to me). I mean it sounds HAPPY. Like 'Lalala look at the pretty flying eyeball killing me isn't it CUTE and oh hi Lassic-kun!!11, let's sit down and work our differences out over a nice teaparty with dolls and flowers and we can do Lutz's hair and cuddle Myau and give Tyrone a makeover!' happy. X_x;

The original sounded kinda cheerful to me.

The second... wooh... I don't recall ANY cheer in that story line.
