Stupid computer in key two. I type like a 50 page thing and save it. I clicked save three times to make sure it saved, and it clearly said it had saved. So the next day I went to open it.. and... it.. WAS GONE!!

I threw a pen at it, and nearly cried. God damn it!! >___< Computers at school suck. Gah!!

Most school computers have a program that makes it so that if you don't save to the server, it won't really save.

But I was logged onto the server.

well I don't know about your computers but our school computers have a program called deepfreeze that erases everything added to the PC that wasnt originally on it, its annoying as hell.

In my experience, things on computer are easier to keep track of.

I had a word processor with a broken ac adapter that tended to fall out of the wall plug at the slightest jolt. I hated starting the same essay 4 times in one night. Though i never lost 50 pages worth, ouch.

Maybe it got saved to the wrong place? Like a temporary file location or something. If you ask the system administrator(s) nicely they might be able to find it for you.

Most teachers don't accept hand written papers anymore.

Basically most districts when they establish a network and purchase a package of clients; Security and bandwidth is a main issue. If your school's network was structured properly then you should have your very own personal folder to save stuff in.

If you save anywhere outside that personal folder like the desktop for example then it will be erased when you log off. In order to keep programs and files from piling up on public computers they are recommended to be cleared after every login.

Although there are exceptions like saving in the Registry, Program files, and C: Drive. It solely depends on the security level and network structure of your school though.

As for your missing file... I doubt an archive retrieval program will get that back since it was on a public computer... You need to save in your personal folder or find out from a teacher as to where to keep your files on the network.

I work with the Technology Integration Specialist at my school and monitor the network as an Internship.
So I have a great knowledge as to how it works.
