Why the hell do I leave my work till the last possible moment? I have a university 3dsMax model I have to make (of Burg Eltz, a German castle), have to hand it in for submission on Monday. Here I am Friday night, currently midnight here, working my arse off, which ill be doing tomorrow and Sunday too.. You'd think Id learn from these things... Meh x1,000,000

Good ol' procrastination. Can't say much to help, considering I've done the same thing. >_<

Nice to see another 3d student here, at least.

Try to leave early to finish your 3dmax project.

That's all I can say and that reminds me that I need to make a room for my 3D max class >_<

oran.. 3d studio max, 3d modelling software created by 'discreet'.

I'm using maya right now, perhaps if I run into some issues with soe models I've been working on, we could pool together information (I'm having a bit of a problem with a model I started last night. for some reason, when I apply a poly smooth, I get these annoying ass stars where the vertices used to be. No, this isn't normal.)

Is it possible for you to post in a thread and actually contribute something to the discussion?

Anyway, Uriko, procrastination does indeed suck, I've had quite a large share of it myself. In the future, try to keep an agenda to keep track of your assignments. It might also help to start working on projects such as this one early - do a little work every day.

uriko, do you have to texture it too? If not, it shouldn't be too hard to make the model.

No, don't have to texture it, I'm in 1st year uni, so they're teaching us the basics. It's just creating polygons to make a hillside, and cutting away buildings to intersect towers into them, it's being a bit of a pain.( I keep getting errors when I run checks, mainly multiple face errors) On the positive side, I did just finish the accompanying report, so at least I have something to hand in.

I mean, they can't possibly expect me to create an amazing model in first year, given ive only used Max for a couple of months.... can they?

As for collaborating, Id love to try and help people having problems, Im just not too great myself at Max. Not too bad with Photoshop, Freehand, and ok with some aspects of Macromedia Flash, if anyone has problems, I'll use my limited intelligence to try an help I guess http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

I've only been using maya for about 2 weeks, but I ahve experience with 3d before maya. took me a good bit of mumbling under my breath with maya to get used to it, then all of a sudden it clicked and i am happily modelling away. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Let me know if you need any help with your castle, maya can export and import max models as far as I know.

Meaning help by: If you have any questions or something messes up.

I use Softimage XSI, which has the nicest interface I've seen so far. Glad I have some idea of who to turn to if I'm having problems with 3D stuff. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

If you're interested, here is one of the first models I did. (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/17314736/) I haven't done a lot of modeling since then, mostly doing animation now.

Anyway, good luck on your project. If you're still having trouble, you might want to ask the nice people at cgtalk.com.

ooo nice GBA.

I only been using 3d max for about 4 weeks >.>

And they expect me to make a room that has light coming through the window and have it bounce off the walls like it does in real life also with a bed, table, and lamp. :/ Oh well.

Does anyone know any good tutorial websites beside 3dtotal and 3dkingdom?

hehe.. wierd thing is.. I would havebeen doing the model anyway, class or not. Doing 3d, i get almost the same excited feeling I get from playing my favorite video game...

I haven't got bored with it in the slightest.. even when i'm totally mad because something won't work right or i'm stuck.

Well, got my castle finished to a helluva basic standard, but if it isn't good enough to pass, I'll re-do it or another project over summer I guess. Also put in the report that I didnt know how to fix some errors http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Ive used 3DS Max for around 2 years, but it was on and off usage at college, and now at university I'm having to re-learn it, after being told the way I was taught at college was wrong http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif Anyway, onto the next project, due in a couple of days from now (a Macromedia Flash Portfolio of my work). Since I'm sick of the sight of design programs, gonna play Lineage II for a bit http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Have to mix work and play...
