The silly thing is that anything you would need a Mac to accomplish, you can build a PC to do for cheaper with little or no difference in performance.

Did you know that Apple is making a shift toward using Intel processors (http://www.macnn.com/articles/05/06/06/intel.transition/)?

So you're paying for all that white plastic outershell, an engineer's salary to continue to find more ways to fit it into a smaller and smaller shape, and the ability to limit yourself to a smaller percentage of compatible hardware/software!

Ah, Oregon Trail anyone? http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

The irony is that the engineer probably used a PC to design it-- there is no drafting software for Macintosh.

Yet, don't most art, animation and game design companies use Macs for the creation process?

At one time, Macs were standard for heavy-duty applications in media; most particularly involving artwork. This is because Apple began using 64-bit processors sooner than PCs, and working with images was therefore marginally faster. The advantage of a single 64-bit processor has become moot, however, as Intel introduced the concept of stacking 32-bit processors when they released the Pentium II.

Before that time, however, in terms of graphical prowess, Apple was unable to compete with Amiga PCs.

In any case, the only information I can point out to you about Apples and the media, is that the newspaper I used to work for had 7 PCs and no Macs. Some time after I left that newspaper, they obtained one such computer, but failed to integrate it into their network, and as far as I know, no one knew how to use it. Other newspaper offices in the area did use Macs, but those I encountered were very old. Suffice it to say, there's quite evidently no advantage in using a Mac when the PC offers more solutions to your problems.
