I decided to buy a router, to have my broadband access on two computers. Will this mean i spilt the speed in half? For example, if my current speed with one computer is 800k, would it be 400k if i got the router?

Sorry, I'm just a little confused about how it will work. Any answers would be helpful.

I'm no technical genious myself, but I think a router makes it so that there is no slowdown. As opposed to a hub, which just takes the original signal and splits it to each computer (causing some slowdown).

For example, if two computer are attached, but only one is downloading a file, the bandwidth and speed won't be affected too much. If two computers are using the internet connection at the same time, there may be data collisions, which cause minor, almost undetectable, delays.

If someone is downloading pr0n and mp3s on one computer, the other computers will have less bandwidth, as I know =-_-=.

As for speed, the hop from your computer to the router to the modem might increase your ping by 6 milliseconds or so. Oh no!
