"Sexual Adventures of the Experimental Dead"
"Band Camp days of the Living Dead"
"H@XX0RING TIEM of teh 1337 d3d"

Jesus. Someone make it fucking STOP. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

There aren't any vampire movies cause goths took over the vampire theme. And no one likes goths, not even God himself. I think there's even rivalry among "clans" of goths.

Bah, vampire movies died when they starte making all of these Blade movies...

No but the real reason is because movies, like styles, go in cycles.

1920-30s you had vampire movies up the kazoo.

1940-50s you had alien movies up the kazoo.

1960-70s you had hippie movies up the kazoo.

Then you hit the eighties and it went back to alien movies.

Kick Ass!

I want to know how many vampire fans have even read Dracula. The vampires Bram Stoker presents are quite different than the ones we see in mass media today. Most of their "powers" are parlor tricks. They can turn into smoke and stuff. Woop de doo. The only thing they really have going for them is superior physcial strength. The weaknesses most people attribute to vampires are false according to Stoker as well. Vampires can walk in daylight, but they cannot change shape during the day. Steel is just as effective as silver. Crucifixes and garlic are the same though. Strangely enough a vampire cannot enter a building unless he is invited by an inhabitant. Also, when a person becomes a vampire he loses most of his ability for complex logic. Van Helsing in Dracula refers to the count as having a "child brain" and Dracula had a thousand years or so to repair his mind. It turns out it's pretty easy to kill a vampire, just wait until he goes to sleep, remove the lid of his coffin, stab his heart, cut off his head and you're done. The only difficulty is 1) finding out where he sleeps (not really a problem since vampires are literally stupid) and 2) following through with the act. A vampire's appearance can be hypnotic, so weak-willed individuals may not have the nerve to do the necessary stabbing.

I wish they'd make a movie that portrayed vampires like Stoker does. Maybe then people would shut up about how cool vampires are.

I dunno, get rid of the Teens and your left with Superman and Batman, and everyone know's those guys are Dicks.

Too many Zombie films? I count about 4 in the past 2 years: Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Resident Evil Apocalypse and Land of the Dead. One was a remake, one was a spoof, one was the biggest pile of shit on the face of the whole planet and the others a new film.

I dont know where I was going with that...

There was a Bram Stoker's Dracula movie back in 1992 ish? Yes. Was it good? Don't know. Never watched it. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Well I know for a fact that the old zombie flicks are pure gold in the comedy/humor department.

I was channel surfing and some naked guy painted yellow jumped out of a freezer and ran after two people. One of them grabbed a pick and slammed it into the zombie's head, to which he was stuck to the floor and smiled. Also shifty eyes, gotta have those there too with the smiling!

And the Evil Dead movies? some people swear by them, and follow Bruce Campbell like a god or something.

Vampire movies?
From Dusk 'til Dawn is a classic. But then they went and made 2(or 3?) more and ruined its credibility.

Blade? Yeah, cheese-tastic! Don't plan on seeing Trinity/#3 anytime soon.

Resident Evil 4 is the only zombie thing I've done all year, and I watched Dawn of the Dead in theaters. I might watch Land of the Dead, looks like an okay premise. I'm interested in the city portion which is blockaded to stop zombies from getting in. Hopefully it isn't like a laughable 10 foot wall or something. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Simply put Vampires and Zombies dont rank the same at all. Zombie movies have a certain charm about them. They are slow, stupid, and relentless. Whereas vampires are fast, carry some level of intelligence, and know when to retreat.

But seriously though my gripe with zombie movies is that the people that fight against them are even stupider than the zombies. "Oh my god I shot him like 4 times and he wont stay down!! What do I do" *freezes on the spot and lets 10 or so zombies bite them to death* Shees. Whereas with vampires at least you have hunters that have some credibility, know their quarry and how to defeat them. Its a clash between two adversaries that know each other. That makes for better movie making.

Bram Stroker's Dracula movie was good, a bit too romantic, but then again most "classical" vampire movies have some level of romance involved. Interview of a vampire was as well good for it focused more on the "life" vampires other than the struggle of Hunter vs Vampire. Underworld as well focuses on a different formula, Werewolves vs Vampires (done before, but this one has better effects >.>) Blade, uhm, well Blade is just Blade I really dont consider it to be of the genre of vampire movies, more like comic book gone to movie. The only "half-breed" Im interest in seen is "D".

Zombie movies, shees. They are more comical than anything else really. Shaun of the Dead hit it right on and treated it as a comedy, it was quite refreshing. And the remake of Dawn of the Dead and such, well they are just remakes. Nothing really new added to it. What is funny that most of these zombie movies don't even follow the classic definition of a zombie. Sure they are mindless and what not. But zombies of lore were created as servants and tools of war for Necromancers. Something that Ive yet to see in movies. It would make more sense to have a Necromancer than to say "all of the sudden zombies just came to be" no explanation... shees that is irritating... one day fine, next day the whole town is full of zombies. That is why I like the approach of Redident Evil movies they took the old definition of zombie and reinvented it to a contemporary monster. Genetical manipulation, bio-chemical warfare, and big uknown corporations... so they made a new class of zombie altogether and for that they should be commended (I know the movies were not as good or detailed as the games were, but oh well.)

its in general not just 'lets put some zombies in a movie that eat humans', it needs a story. a good one, preferably.

Well that is what I mean, unless zombie movies have a new angle to them its preety much "eat brain" type thing.

How about making a movie where at a certain age you become a zombie, and thus people nearing that age are cornered and executed and cremated on the spot. Kinda of Logans Run but with zombies.

Scen hit it dead on.

I watch recent zombie flicks and I'm just let down. It gets to the point that I start rooting for people to just be mauled in the most gruesome way ever, because the screenplay puts them in such idiotic character. It almost makes me wonder how some of these idiot characters are still alive, and if they're the last remnants of society..well...God help society and the human race.

Vampire films though, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Interview with a Vampire are just must-see movies. I can remember when they were being released in theatres, and being able to see them at such a young age kicked ass.

Err... in my Science-Fiction class we read Dracula and then watched the old Bela Lugosi version. Then after that, due to time restraints, we watched the opening and closing scenes of Bram Stoker's... and I gotta say, the 1992 version doesn't look too hot. I mean, obviously, I haven't seen it yet, but what the hell is with the whole "eternal love story" thing?

Didn't really catch onto that in the novel, I'll say that much. And since when do crosses poor out blood when they're stabbed?

For your best monster movie go see anything with with Boris Karlov. Whether it be the Mummy, Frankenstein... he did a great job of being that extremely creepy monster type fellow. Heck, check out any monster movies from his time period. Really good stuff. A bit cheesy today but... man, still has great storylines to them.

I guess it's just the Romero fan in me. This man practicaly created the Zombie film culture, so there's no reason to hate. All of the old movies (read: ORIGINAL Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, ect..) are milestones and have inspired a lot of people to make movies? What has your 'Dawn' remake done? Shown that people don't want to read into true art anymore.
