I traded in my copy of PSO so I cant renew my HL. If I buy a friends copy who have already made an HL with the serial and key, will I be able to make an account using his copy?

You can still renew your HL. the disk itself has nothing to do with your HL other than it has the original serial and access key. Just log into Sega's PSO SITE (http://pso.sega.com/community/profiles/pso_gcn/pc_front/gcn_pc_main.jhtml) and reactivate your old HL and when you go to create a char to go online make sure you use your old access and serial number (it has both of those numbers listed once you log in and go into EDIT ACCOUNT.)
