If you are going to have a weapon with a part that is called the "bolt", I would assume to use a bolt-action rifle. Like that German KAR. That way you have a chance of taking out two people with one bullet.

gib crossbow! although, the flights of them that arrows will just get torn off as the thing flies, causing it to go a bit wrong and not hit anything...

Even so, the Mauser would be a better weapon than a simple crossbow.
