I've noticed people here have sprites of different PSO type characters. Where did they come from and is there any one place where I'd see the basic sprites at?

what kind of sprites are you talking about?
there are many kinds even in the SD category alone..

Whenever I want PSO sprites, I just make my own, so I'm not sure where people get theirs.

I think most of the sprites people use on this site are home made. If you want some from the old phantasy star games, you could emulate them and use the ol' print screen function for some sprite ripping action ^_^

Well for the older ones I know how to grab, even have a decent collection of ps4 stills. Problem is is there any one place that these pso sprites are gathered at or no?

Dig around on this site a little bit http://www.phantasystaronline.it/

it's in another language, but just go to their gallery, and then to the gif section I think and you'll find many of the things that people use on this site, and some others.

Im a little confused with what Sprites are...

Small, pixelized versions of characters and objects and such that make up old video games. They can be really simple or really complex, but they're all fun to look at. And not that hard to make, either.

And they're even easyer to edit if you have the propper material and know-how.

An example of the sprites i'm looking for are in Dhylec's signature.

However here's an example of a quick edit i did of a hucast sprite from one of those sites somebody linked to.

Example: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216/wdojinn/PSO/misc/hikari.gif

Two minute edit.

true!
once you have a basic/templet sprite, with the right tools & know-how, you can modify to anything you like
mine are pixel-edited to match what my chars really are =)
though each takes more than your quick 2-min work ;D

True. So very true, and the uber chibi style i have for my avitar just won't cut it for my peticular taists and unfortunatly i need a base reletivly close to what i want for me to have a shot at making it look decent.

And once you get good at editting them, it's easy enough to just start doing your own, using the ones you editted as reference. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Making sprites is so much fun. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I wish I had time to do it.

This is a little larger scale than what you were mentioning, but I thought it would be good to show you a little bout making sprites from scratch, I dug up an "in progress" pic of my old Ancient sprite.

It makes it easier to deal with it in sections, and to choose as small a color palate as possible to keep things simple. For me anyway. You can simply scratch out a rough outline first and then detail it in pixel by pixel. Doing it pixel by pixel is actually pretty easy once you get into it, its just slow monotonous work. But some people (like me) kinda like that. He're the finished pic.

Hmm....wha'd you do, go off a sketch for your sprite work or completely totally inside the computer?

That was my first pixel art/sprite peice. I did it all in MSpaint from scratch. Basically I just scetched a really basic outline of the pose I wanted simply using a 1pixel black brush. Then cleaned it a little to get the basic muscle/armor structure. Then just went in pixel by pixel and began coloring and detailing. I used a lot of reference pics to try and get the costume correct. And to help out with the pose I looked very hard at some good ol' Capcom fightin games.

Yea...it does have that flavor to it. Feels like you borrowed from one of the xmen verses sf games, which is a GOOD thing.
