View Full Version : I have a question...

It's kind of an odd question, actually. And I'm afraid that even asking this will bring people down on me trying to burn me alive or something... >.<
What I want to ask is this:
Would you guys spurn me and hate me forever if I posted drawings I've done of two of my characters who are in love? The only reason I'm afraid of posting the aforementioned artwork here is because both of the characters are male... (A FOmar and HUmar, to be specific.) I'm not sure whether that's something that would squick a lot of you, or if my fellow forum-goers are open-minded and mature enough to handle my posting this sort of thing.
The only reason I ask is because I've finished a piece that I'm really quite happy with (my pencil skills are finally approaching what they used to be detail and shading-wise), and I'd like to show it to people who would actually appreciate it for what it's from. (Till now, I just posted it in my Deviantart gallery and on a Cats the musical forum, where, needless to say, nobody really understood it...)
I mean, nothing that I've drawn of this nature is really graphic - actually, the picture in question just has them sort of hugging, but not even really that.
If the majority people would be offended/weirded out by my posting this sort of art, I will refrain from doing so, but I just would like to know whether I'm needlessly worrying myself or if my fears were valid. I just feel like it's a shame that I'm afraid to post some of my artwork here, and, yeah. That's really it. I'll shut up now, because I think my brain quit working about five hours ago.
I don't think anyone here would be too bothered by something like that
you might get a few homophobes, but I'm sure there are enough intelegent people here to put assholes in their place http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah, go for it. I've found that for a rather large community, PSOW is actually pretty open-minded.
>_>
if anyone would post about how your pic sucks because it's two guys hugging or even just two guys in some sort of lovey pose, I would hope to hell that someone would kill em before they get to click the submit post button http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif
all in all you should just post your work without too much worry
of course you are gonna get people who don't like it fo various reasons but you will also get people who like it regardless of content
but to dis-like it do to a guy on guy thing is just plain stupid... XD
if they are that immature there is really no need to even acknowledge them http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif
I look forward to seeing your pic http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif

You need to realize that artwork is meant to evoke a feeling, response, reaction from the viewers. Even if all you end up getting is hatred and flames over the concept of your work, you will know that it is successful because you have caused somebody to feel something enough that they write up about it.
It was much like your 3d FOnewearl characterizations. These evoked a great response from the viewers, and even disgust among one such viewer who felt compelled enough to flame you over it unnecessarily. You did your job in that because you made the viewers feel something, either perverted or otherwise. Just as what happened when I posted some artwork a few months back and was promptly advised by a casual viewer that it might be a good idea to remove the scantily clad female depictions to avoid being banned. If I had been banned for such drawings, I would know I had done my job well, because it would have evoked such a response that I wouldn't have been welcomed back to the forums at all. That is very powerful effective art. I'm certain that others may not think that way about it, considering it more an act of trying to shield objectional material from the viewing public, but they aren't thinking artistically. IT is art, and that is all. If they are seeing something more than the art that it is meant to be, then it is they who need to pull their own minds out of the gutter.
So in other, less drawn out words, if you think the works are ready for display, then just go ahead and show them without questioning what might happen because of it. These are your pieces of art, and the world is your audience. You can't please everybody all of the time, but the people who admire you will appreciate what you have done.

I say go for it. I would like to think that Fan Works is one of the more mature forums here and that most people would be able to see art without bursting into "OMG! 2 GUYS!".
Im sure we have had some stuff posted like this before, I think we had a Fan Fic with two male leads who were in love.

Go for it then, I trust you when you say its tastefull. In my time of collecting every PSO pic I could find I've stumbled upon some guy guy things that were just fine, and a number of pics that were basically porn >__> gay and straight. I dont think the sexual orientation of the pictures characters should dictate whether its offensive or not. Its whats actually being conveyed by the image that counts.

I see plenty of yaoi or whatever it's called on every other forum, so i've gotten used to it. Won't bother me any.

So long as its done taistfully I have no problems with it. even though I don't care much for yaoi itself depending on the artist the art involved can be quite cute looking. Then again if its porn I'd rather not see it dispite talent.
Go for it and everybody else's oppinions be damned. This is YOUR vision you're putting on paper. Let it be shared with the world.

I see no problems with it either. This is Fanworks; we're here to see awesome people draw excellent pictures. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Would I be wrong to request pictures of two female characters to, err, balance things out? Yes I would? OK, I'll shut up now. ;D

I think you'd be wrong to ask LJR for a pic of two females (or any art) because I know how busy she is and that she doesn't have time for requests. Besides, I've already asked for one of two females. Kind of. LJR knows I want a picture of my character with her partner ("looking pretty"), but I don't know that any picture like that would be posted here (if she ever stops drawing bishies and draws the pictures I've been asking for for months http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif ) because I don't know if it's okay with the other player.
On topic: if you ask me, shoujo ai and shonen ai are the same deal, if one is not offensive, neither is the other. Then again, it depends entirely on the fandom, context, style, and "taste" of the art whether or not I think it's offensive. But you know I think fluffy stuff is annoying, not offensive.
DO IT!!!!
any pics are cool, what ever the content http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

As LadyRed said, I hardly have time for that now. Things are starting to get tougher on me (I have two huge projects due midway through this week, and starting this week, I have to do a walk cycle, moving turnaroud, facial movement animations, and a bunch of other stuff. Plus two more projects for Audio and at least one for 3D modeling, and my behaviour study for Psychology.
I've already taken it upon myself to try and do illustrations for Ai_no_Usagi, and with that, all my homework, and still trying to get finished with my "uber pretty" character sketches for my game design, I have no time whatsoever.
If I did not have so much homework to do, I would probably take on your request for a drawing of two females. As it stands, just look up "Revolutionary Girl: Utena" to get some girl-on-girl action. >.<
Note to everyone, please don't bug me to draw you anything for the next two years.

Hey now, take it easy. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Some people just see some amazing artwork and want to get a piece of it for themselves. I know what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger, but dont overdo things LJR.
Put some relaxation time up there on the priority list, dont want you getting burnt out again. ~.^

Relaxation? Hah, like I've got time for that if I want to stay on the dean's list. Not that we have a dean at the moment...

I feel ya, my friend just graduated from The Ringling School of Art's Computer Animation program, he basially had no time the last 2 years. I'm going to Ringling now for Illustration, we've got it easy compared to you CA types. I take my hat off to you.
I'm trying to transfer to CA eventually, but I'll enjoy my present work load for the moment http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
