Keep them?

What are they and how do they work?

watashiwa
Aug 21, 2002, 03:59 PM
HP is based on user activity.

A user's current HP is based on the user's posts per day.
A higher post per day (ppd), the more HP they will have.

MP is calculated by how long the user has been around and how often they post.

Max MP is based on level, and increases with level
Each post a user makes costs them mp, and a user regenerates mp proportional to how many days they have been registered.

Experience is determined by how far the user is away from the next level. This is expressed as a percentage.

Of course, you gain experience by posting.

To break it down simpler, HP is increased by posting whereas MP is decreased. A person with high HP and low MP probably = post whore. A person with low HP but high MP probably doesn't post much at all.

Ditch them, they're ugly and they make short posts (like the 2 at the top of this topic) larger than needed

watashiwa
Aug 21, 2002, 04:02 PM
Haha, yeah. Oh well, was just trying something.

I could just try to shrink the size of each individual bar as well...

I dunno, probably better to just remove them. =P Just thought it'd be sort of fun.

I like the idea! ^_^

Maybe you can try to make them a little smaller and valign="top" the post cell.

ABDUR101

...I own.

XD

I think it's nifty. It's interesting to see really, I say keep it, it's not a big drain on the bandwith, nor does it mess up the page layout.

watashiwa
Aug 21, 2002, 04:14 PM
lol, doh, removed them. I just wanted to see what they looked like. I don't think it's a problem if people made worthwhile posts anyway.

Well, okay, I'll leave them on for like a day or something and you guys can vote in this topic then I guess it'll be decided via the outcome of the poll.

Bug report! http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Someone who isn't logged in will see everyone as a post whore. All HP and no MP. o.O;; Somehow, XP isn't affected.

Oh, and I say yay to this. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Fixed the bug. Sorry about that.

I was using the current logged in user's registration date for calculation instead of the poster's registration date for each post.

My bad!!

Eh, I considered adding a similar thing to RPGFan's boards, but then decided against it for the very reason Rhete's against it... makes the left bar much longer than it needs to be, and it'd look goofy spread horizontally.

It's novel at first (as is anything that's new), but eventually people won't care about this a month from now, especially since most of us will be playing PSO E1/2 at that time, and we'll be posting with questions and comments about the game, and how many HP/TP/XP we have on the boards won't make much difference.

Let us use custom avatars in the meantime though, and then we'll talk. =P

eh they are ok. i say keep em. but i also agree with parn.... to a point. the only real problem i have seen with custom avatars is the loser kiddies that just have to have their porno pics as an avatar. i like mine at other boards that i use though lol. *wishes he could use it here*

"HOLY CRAP!!

Since when did they add the HP bar thingys? Oh man, I LOVE those things!! I've seen em on other boards and stuff...oh man this ROCKS!!"

I was going to post that in a random topic when I saw these things for the first time, but I controlled myself :P

Dammit, I think these are freakin awesome. Sure, they'll become boring a month later, but what's the harm in keeping them? I think they make the site look a lot prettier. Plus the fact that you can instantly identify the "forum whores" on the site is very nify ^0^

Uhhm...does lengthly posts do anything positive for you? *sweatdrop*

Another thing I forgot to mention is that if you see a user at a same level as another user with a higher max HP, it's because their average numer of posts per day is higher than the set board average and that user's average post per day, which I set at I think 5, plus that user's average.

If your post per day is high and you are lower leveled, your HP max bonus is higher than what would be received for a higher level person as well. So if you see a level 5 person with 500 HP and a level 10 person with the near same amount of HP. It's because the level 5 person is:

A) New to the boards.
B) Has been posting quite a bit. (Probably has like 25-30 average posts per day.)

If they don't post, their HP bonus will deteriorate over time.

Make sense? 'Course it does.

Aug 21, 2002, 11:27 PM
I like the whole "Spamers have high HP, low MP" idea.

Would be interesting to give some sort of stat boost to TP like how you have the HP boost set up. Maybe in some sort of reverse fashion based on date signed up to posts per day.

Appearently, high post count automatically = spam

However, if Jazzy visited more often and read my posts(which he doesn't do, since appearently my post count means I'm a spammer with nothing worthwhile to read), he would know that I have some rather insightful and long posts. =O

Oh well, guess he'll have to ignore this post, since I'm such a post whore =)

I signed up this forum a while back ago, I like they layout they got, very RPGish and laods of fun, but again it won't be long before people start spamming/forum whoring just to be "better" than other people.

Meteor

Well it's not bad, it looks okay i suppose.

But it really is totally pointless!

Seriously, pretty much everyone i have seen (except Abdur of course) has very low HP and very high TP, so there's not enough difference between individuals.

And it's way too complicated.

For Example:
"Another thing I forgot to mention is that if you see a user at a same level as another user with a higher max HP, it's because their average numer of posts per day is higher than the set board average and that user's average post per day, which I set at I think 5, plus that user's average. So if you see a level 5 person with 500 HP and a level 10 person with the near same amount of HP. It's because the level 5 person is..."

It took me around 10 minutes to work this out. Maybe i'm just stupid or something...

And another thing. Because I've been here a long time, but hardly ever post anymore, people will look at my 'stats' and think i suck compared to Abdur.

It's not a game, it's a forum!!

I could'nt help but laugh at that XD

Well if we're judging people by post count, posts per day and "activeness", then yes, everyone sucks compared to Abdur.

But it's just something to add spice to the forums. It's not a big deal who posts often or not, it's the contents of your post that matters.

It's when you make it out to be a big deal that it turns into one. =)

Nothing big everyone, it's just to add something interesting to the forum. It's no different than looking at post counts, it just gives you a better idea of who's more active.
