The DS uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, much like the GBA. And yes, it does come with an adapter.

And, more advice...do NOT, under any circumstances, turn off the backlight on the screens. It makes it impossible to see what's happening.

It's fun and actually makes me think this whole DS thing might not be just a pipe dream.

I unfortunately live in the "ghetto" area of town, so all my friends live further away anyway, and i've ever been known for playing multiplayer games much anyway.
I just always win, it's annoying.

Do you have a wireless network in your house/apartment? If so, you could wait and get Mario Kart, Tony Hawk, or Animal Crossing and play them online.

Since forever as far as I can recall.
Got mine when it came out in the US and it was as Tact said.

Maybe you have some sort of later released version or something, but I haven't heard of anything like that before.

Sorry, Jon. I didn't specify the type of GBA. It's the GBA SP that uses a lithium-ion battery.

Its okay Oran, some say that the pen, err stylus, is mightier than the sword! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Like you can write that pie in half!
Or write that enemy to death!

Which color are you getting?
Getting a package/deal that comes with a game?

What's the first game you're going to get?

If you managed to read this far, you get a gold star and one of these for a wall in your room: http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mushboom.gif

PS: I want a Mario Paint DS like soo bad. Imagine the possibilities! Microphone(custom music/your voice singing/etc.), touch screen/stylus. Music editing with the touch of the screen. Paint program worthy drawings by using a "dumbed down tablet hardware/software."

Nintendo, MAKE IT NOW!!!

Well, portables are nice. The games are usually not region specific(can't remember any lockouts by region, ever). Besides language, you can import and enjoy the games from any region.

Some games have had language options in them even though they were being sold in one region of the world. Neo Geo Pocket(Color) Games come to mind. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Are you saying that the Japanese versions of Fire Emblem would not work on a US GBA/GBA SP/DS?

This is what I'm talking about; playing a US game on a JP system, vice versa, EU game on a US system, etc.

PS: The fire Emblem games in Japan were not released on GBA?(thought it was SNES) Or were they?

A game not to get:

Sprung!

Metroid Hunters demo pack that comes with the platinum version of the system.

Reasons why:

Sprung!

If you like the old text based computer games, Sprung might interest you. There is no gameplay, no exploration, the only feature on the DS that is utilized is the double screen, really, it's easier to use the D pad with this game than the stylus.

It's just a game featuring a bunch of conversations, and you need to make the correct choices of what to ask. Make a wrong choice once, and the scene will likely end, forcing you to start again from the beginning of the scene. There are unlimited continues, which makes this just a memorization game. If it had come out fifteen years ago, it may have been decent, but the lack of any sort of exploration puts it far behind those text based games of old.

The graphics are good, the animation good. But the animations are recycled seemingly endlessly, and they get tired in short time.

Metroid Hunters Demo

When you can purchase the system and have the option of it coming with Mario 64DS, which is a full game, the Metroid Hunters Demo choice is just lame. Besides that, it's not so great.

If you want a different colored DS than the two that I see at the store all the time, check out http://www.lik-sang.com/ for the colors they have available. I know there is a pink one, and I think a red one there, there may also be a black one.

Yes/No is the correct answer for that. Yes you can plug and play handheld games in any region system. No you cannot on consoles. And the methods on how to actually do so are... taboo as to my knowledge for discussion here. Just keep in mind to play Japanese games you will likely have to modify the system or the carts, or both.

Yes, I understand ROM's, Emulators, flash memory, etc. and know to not talk about them here as well. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Its just that Tact was unsure of what I meant. I was trying to figure out how he came to such a conclusion. Because Fire Emblem wasn't a GBA game in Japan, before it was released on GBA in America to my knowledge. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif Also, if it was, it should have worked on a US GBA also! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Software made specifically for one country, can be played on hardware from a different country, pertaining to portables.

Example:
Buying a Neo Geo Pocket Color Game from Japan and playing it on your Neo Geo Pocket Color you purchased in the United States.

The price drop was not a rumor.
Advertisements for Best Buy/Target I looked at today have the price for a DS at $130 US dollars.

Actually I wasn't talking about any of those. >_> It involves changing key components within the system that could... well, can be used for cheating as well. Again, this is with console only. As, like you said, handhelds are great because you can purchase for any region and have them work.

The Metroid Prime Hunters demo came with the US systems as well, but he's referring to the fact that for about four months or so, the DS has been coming packaged with Mario 64 DS instead. So he was suggesting that if one were to go into a store with both versions in stock, the one with Mario is the better deal.
