View Full Version : Flat Sec ID colors

Since the information I was originally asking for was apparently not readily/easily available, I had to come up with something different. Trying to get a sample from a SnapShot didn't work too well since different spots gave different values because of the variance in hues/shades/whatever. So I went a different route and this is what I came up with, at least for "flat" Sec ID colors. I guess I should mention that I was going for an "overall" color match to the reference IDs I used.

This first set seem to be good matches, at least for the references I used anyway.

This set seems to be pretty good, but could potentially be better.

These I had some problems with trying to get a good match for, although that may be partially due to what I was using for the color source material (the X11 colors). Another possibility is that I'm just bad at trying to match the colors. On each ID I've got some possible matches, any of which could potentially work, but I'd like input on which is the "best" match.

Just to be on the same page, if referencing which sample is better, please refer to the samples as "top", "bottom", or "right" for Purplenum, and "top" or "bottom" for Skyly.

As I mentioned, these are just "flat" matches. What I'd like however is to make the colors look more like the actual in-game IDs. How would I go about making them "glow" like that? What would I have to adjust to achieve that effect?

Sorry for this, but I wanted to bring attention to the fact that this is now technically a different topic than it was before.

Well thing is, at least with the sources I was using, they aren't solid colors. Depending on which pixel it happened to land on, the sample would end up with different values.

Thanks Skorpius. So ideas how I'd go about achieving that "glowing" effect?

Play with layer effects.

Using trial and error, duplicating the ID, blurring, etc, I came up with this:

I'm not sure what type of 'glow' you're looking for.

That's pretty much it exactly. I used "glow" for lack of a better word to describe the in-game appearance of the IDs on chars, as opposed to a "flat" look (does that make any sense?). Granted my intention isn't for the using on the IDs themselves, but I'm assuming the same principles could be used for my purposes. Sorry for not knowing jack or sounding stupid, I'm just new to the whole graphics thing.
