View Full Version : New release dates revealed for PSU?

Take this with a grain of salt, Gamestop is now listing two separate dates for PSU. The PC version is set for release in November 2005 while the PS2 version is set for release in February 2006. Most other sites only have the PS2 version listed so it is hard to confirm or deny this.

Could this mean that the PC version will be ready before the PS2 version?

I wouldn't trust game stores for anything about release dates. Extra stuffs like bundles and stuff, okay, but never release dates.

Trust Sega/Sonic Team. Keep that in mind.

Every site seems to say something different. So i really have no idea when it will be released XD

Didn't one of the official site have that listed as the release dates before? And then they changed the PC version to also be feb 06... =?

I won't hold my breath for it, but since I'm getting the PC version that would be very cool if it was indeed released that soon http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

**offtopic** I know its been discussed in other threads but I really, really hope the PS2 and PC servers are linked. It would suck not to be able to adventure with other members simply because they chose one version over the other. So if the PC version does happen to come out sooner and the two servers are linked, I guess we'll get a nice little headstart and can post screenies to tease the rest of the members http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

BTW in response to RurouniJoku, I thought I remembered seeing that somewhere also that the pc version was pushed back to coincide with the PS2 release.

Since all games are made on computers, it seems obvious why it would be easier to release it for PC first. I think they need to do more coding and such to put it on a console.

I think they're telling us the release date of the PC version in Japan; either they did that by mistake or they're thinking of selling the Japanese PC version in case it is multi-language (since PCs don't have region locks like consoles).

I wouldn't trust retail stores for any sort of information, and I doubt anything being released before 2006.

Quite off-topic, but a PS2-PC link would mean no patches for the PC version (since the PS2 isn't capable of handling a patch). So when the duping goes nuts, you will have to bear with it when otherwise any loophole could be just patched.

Another thing being the PS2 version will have a poorer community because of all the little kiddies playing on the console their daddy bought them.

I pray that they are not linked...and the seperate release dates lean towards that, if anything http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Well I hope PS2/PC are linked. The bigger the community the better, and the stronger it makes PSU in the long-run. Which gives Sonic Team more incentive to keep it updated.

You'll aways get idiots on any online game, but I hardly think the majority of PS2 players are going to be 'kiddies' especially when you have to pay to play online. The majority of Japanese players will be on PS2 as well. It would be a shame to not have it all linked.

Regarding patches for the online game, these can be implemented server-side. They did that frequently with the DC and GC versions (detecting Action Replays, disabling rares, implementing the double-save etc.), so they can do the same for PS2. They only had to reissue the Gamecube one because of a bug in the offline game which could be used to exploit the online game. With offline and online being totally separate in PSU there won't be that risk.

As for the release-date, well the official Japanese site still doesn't even mention the PC version. So I don't expect it to come out before. We will hopefully get a release-date for both versions, as well as a lot more information, at the Tokyo Game Show which starts in a few weeks. They always use TGS to showcase a new PSO.

True, but this game is certain to get at least an M rating due to what's on that beastman's evolved form in the video. (you know what i'm talkin about)

I think that would be great. Then a wouldnt have to worry about getting PS2 over PC. I would definitly get PS2 since my mate will be and I have less access to my PC http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Sorry if this is Off Topic.

The more players, the stronger online community we will have and the more people we have to choose from when leveling. Nash already pointed out that many glitches/exploits can be taken care of server side so patching may not really be needed (alot of pc patching has more to do with performance issues than actual game changes.)

As for "kiddies" playing online, I think its pretty common for little Timmy (sorry Ian, I ripped off your imaginary example lol) to have access to a pc. I have two nephews ages 12 and 9 and both of them have their own pcs. If you don't think there will be as many "kiddies" playing online on pc, go play Diablo 2 for a half hour and get back to me http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

The point is (as others have already mentioned) there will be obnoxious players on both versions which is why in another thread I mentioned it would be nice if SEGA could toss in a ban feature so that we have the ability to not have to see text or listen to voice chat from specific players. I also agree that since this will be pay to play for online, it will curtail more youngters from getting online simply because their parents don't wish to shell out some "grip" for their little darlings to log on. There are plenty of very cool members here that for one reason or another aren't able to run PSOBB on their machine/s but may be able to play on PS2, so if the servers are linked, noone has to worry about getting a specific version just so they can play and hang with their pals.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand your point and I respect your opinion on it, but even if I go on the assumption that what you said is accurate (which I don't think it is) I would rather have a larger online community and deal with a few more lamers than to have a severed community and maybe have fewer obnoxious players to deal with. I'm a big boy and I can handle a little spam or w/e but what I won't like is paying for the service and not being able to adventure with another member because they got PS2 instead. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, back on topic, I haven't been able to find a source anywhere (aside from the gamestop page) that lists the pc version coming out this year, so like I said, I would love for it to happen but I'm not holding my breath. Remember when Gamestop had PSO Ep 3 pics on their PSO+ page and even used the Ep3 description for the game http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

I don't see why the two server's wouldn't be linked. FFXI was on PS2 and PC and they were linked. Nothing's confirmed, but if Sega/ST doesn't link the servers, then they will be making a very huge mistake.

He went there!

Yea and... I would cry if the servers weren't linked... I wouldn't be able to play with my brother or my friends unless I got an extra PS2 which I can't afford and would be otherwise completely worthless to me...

By the time PSU is out for pstwo, the console will be worthless and very affordable.

Do not trust Gamestop >_> they're evil with their release dates, and just about every other place http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif Me still thinks it'll be december >_> but who knows, PC ver MAY be in November in Japan .__. I hope the PC version comes 1st cause of my convenience but I find it fairer if it's dual release...

I honestly think if they aren't linked, the PC version would still not have patches. It's like saying Xbox version (Ep1&2 btw) getting patches and not GC.

As for the making mistakes thing... -hisses- ST is the best http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif I'm a proud fan lol XD No but really, I don't complain much about ST since I love the game and I play it still. Some ppl see ST as an ex-bf/gf. They get pissed with them but just love to get back together with them lol XD just a little humor there btw, don't take it seriously http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime1.gif
