Hello, I have a suggestion.

Finish the picture with the odd colors, then when it is complete to your liking, hit Invert Colors!

yeah, I was using a custom palette to change the color of the hair in a picture I was going to use for my signature, and because I no longer have any other editing software I was using paint, and everytime I tried to change the color of the hair it was act as though it was going to let me use the color I had selected but it would change it to a color that was similar....kind of...but not really and so argh...it was frustrating
