There is now a gameshark for GC, this may mean that playing the new PSO will be just as bad as the original http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif Lets jsut hope that A:) Sega does something about this, or B:) microsoft prevents this from happening to their console http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif tis a sad day
Of course. The game is poised to be cheated for the simple fact that chars are stored locally anyway.
But it's not a flaw of the console - even the xbox will have a gameshark. It's simply unavoidable.
But, a properly designed online game can't be cheated easily, even with a gameshark (after all, pc online game are way safer than dreamcast PSO, for instance, while messing up with the memory, the network traffic and the game code is way easier than on a console with a gameshark)

I saw Gameshark for all 3 consoles during January. I'm serious. I saw that "Gameshark for Nintendo GameCube" w/ that shark figure. I knew it would come to this. Bluh.

why dont you buy a GS learn there nasty codes like pk vk whatever and make a big list of there names and give them a taste of there hacker ways? like moma salt allwayssaid what goes around comes around.also bad things you do comes back 3 times worse.
That must have ben suggested like a thousand times. It never stopped cheaters on the DC. It only brings more cheating.
Even if they have sorted their client/server networking code properly on the GS, the sad truth is that duping/creating items will still be possible, because of that stupid offline mode.
I was starting to consider playing pso again on the GC, but after having played other oline games where cheating is almost inexistant, at least compared with PSO, I don't think I'll be able to stand the cheating lamers anymore.
A good thing in PSO compared with mmorpgs is that there's no camping. Uber weapons are rare, but only because they spawn purely randomly. And, added with the fact that the character development system try not to turn the gameplay into a number party and avoid to drag focus from the actual gameplay, it's exactly what I want in a game right now.
Unfortunately, because of cheats, uber leet d00ds wearing all the same uber gear will ruin all that, turning the whole game into something that doesn't appeal me.
So, I probably won't even try to play it again.

Ha, making PSO for GCN is pointless now. Online gaming totally loses it premise if there's cheaters running everyone. 'Tis a sad day indeed.

Cheaters ruin everything. When are they ever gonna stop making these things? I mean I really don't care that they do. But leave Online playing alone. You can cheat as much as you want offline but don't start bringing the bull... to online gaming thats just lame.

When I think about it. Cheats haven't ruined PS0 on the dc. The game ruined itself. Oh its a nice idea of having an online rpg, but still. After awhile the game gets boring. Its repetitive, rarely something new happens.
Once you get to the max level of 100 or 200 you have seen and done it all. There is nothing new to accomplish. Oh yea you can mention battle mode all you want, but the fact of the matter is, thats hardly any different from simply pking someone except for the fact that its legal.
This game lacks depth. The only thing that changes is the quests, maybe the battle mode but I have never played PS02. The only reason why games like this are addictive because people can come online and chat/play with people they know. Thats pretty much the reason why people play PS0 everyday even after they hit level 100 or 200, just to chat pretty much.
I believe Gameshark hadn't ruined PS0, since with the arrival of PS02 people were going to stop playing PS0 for that. It has hurt it, but not by much. Anyways there is nothing better then killing some idiot who pisses you off and jacking his stuff.

Hence you resorted to the cheat device like thousands of others. "The game ruined itself." PRICELESS. Cheat devices ruined PSO for the legitimate gamer(one who just plays the damn game without a 50 dollar cheat machine and its coded effects).

The main appeal of PSO is character interaction/helping others out(level)/trading/etc. not maxing out your damn 180% weapon idiot with level200 and uber rare gear. You miss the point entirely.

Level 100 is soo easy to get that people who have to cheat to get there are just lazy asses. cheating to get higher levels than 100 is ridiculous since you know you didn't earn it anyway.
People still play PSO legit or not regardless if you don't. So don't steriotype all people as just playing to "chat" with people.
I believe Gameshark hadn't ruined PS0, since with the arrival of PS02 people were going to stop playing PS0 for that.
What the hell? Explain your run-on sentence.
"people were going to stop playing for that." "that" what? People will stop playing PSO entirely when a new version arrives? NO they will buy the new version to play or play and cheat.
It has hurt it, but not by much. Anyways there is nothing better then killing some idiot who pisses you off and jacking his stuff.
What gives you the right to ruin people's character data at will? Your PSO v1 disc and 50 dollars you gave to the cheat device company? "jacking his stuff" If they know people that own or if they own their own cheat device then they can make their own idiot weapons again.
How can a person piss you off when you are supposed to try to get along as best as possible on PSO for 'teamwork' and enjoyment rather than "I'm better than you because I have a cheat device and I can PK you."
Man I cannot talk reason to you anyway. this will just blow over your head as an insult to your intelligence or "piss you off so you can jack my stuff".

I really don't understand this whole "oh no, cheating is going to ruin GC PSO" thing.
For starters, most of you cheat, so I don't know where the $%&# you get the nerve to complain about cheating.
Have a little bit of reality check here. There will always be cheating in an online game. I really can't think of a single online game that doesn't have cheaters (maybe FFXI, but wait until the PC version comes out).
If you're expecting the online community of GC PSO to be different from DC PSO, you're gonna be disappointed. Cheaters will once again dominate the game, and the few legits that are left will do our own thing.
Bottom line: If you don't like cheating, don't do it yourself. In the case of DC PSO, 90%+ of the players did not have a cheat device, but 90%+ of players did cheat.
Oh, and if you think cheating didn't ruin DC PSO, you need a reality check. Things were going pretty damn well in the early days when most players drooled when they first saw a double saber in action.

Thats probably true. I know I'm not. I'm a pure legit since day one. Expect 1 of my characters where I traded for items.

The weapon cheats are one thing, the fsod crap is another thing. Hate those fuckers, hopefully things like that will be stopped. Nothing I hate more than trying to find a legit game to play and having to start my game up 10 or 15 times in the process.

Hacked/Duped weps don't really annoy me... After PSO lost it's luster I accepted duped items and I won't try to act all "Holy Legit" about it. The only problem I have with people using hacking devices is FSOD and PK/CK since resetting my console over and over is quite annoying!

Cheating is really old stuff. Complains are useless. They are apart of Phantasy Star Online. You either don't cheat yourself, avoid them, or don't play the game all together. Worrying about "being hacked" only will make the game less enjoying for YOU. Think about that...

The anti-cheaters are like a bunch of old maids gossiping at their weekly bingo game.
MIND YOUR OWN FRIGGIN BUSINESS!
If you don't want to cheat, don't.
If someone else does (and doesn't directly affect you by messing with YOUR data) then ignore it.
Seriously folks, you have no right to dictate to someone else how they will enjoy the game, just as some cheater has no right to use PK/BSOD hacks on your data.

I've done some research and finally found a way to end and prevent all further cheating on any console or system, and for any game.
All we need to do is create several websites and several postes that proclaim "Fuck you Saddam!" He will be angry enough to send a couple of nukes our way.
There. No more consoles, no more PCs, no more games, no more people, no more technology, no more cheating!

A quickie to ThresholdRPG (BTW!): Take note that you are saying this right in central enemy territory. I wouldn't do too much noise if I were you. http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

The creators of South Park: The Movie tried that.

You're all over-reacting. Gamecube isn't exactly easy to cheat. There is no information available for the average cheater to make codes.
PSOv3 will definately not be as bad as the Dreamcast versions. Eventually there may be item modifying/duping/hacked character data, but aside from that, I believe cheating will be minimal.
If you're worried about the Xbox version, there won't be a Gameshark coming out. It would be illegal for Interact to even release one. That's if they could make one.
(Edit: I didn't realize this thread was about the Japanese release. My response was refering to the US version)

Heh I thought it was about PSOEpI&II in general...but it seems the earlier discussion was now about the JAP version...
Now, lets start talking about the NA version
^_^
Hey Zophar, what's up man? Been a while since I talked to you http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
..if you're the one that I know.

This is the same Zophar. I bought PSOv3 and a network adapter, but I've been unable to play it online due to "(No.102)" error upon logging onto the server.
Do you have the US or JP version?

I knew you'd buy it. I have the JP version, playing cheat-free would you believe.
