Yes, because it's cool to use the word once you learn it.

'Hepaticocholangiocholecystenterotomies.'
A surgical creation of a connection between the gall bladder and a hepatic duct and between the intestine and the gall bladder.

There's a 45-letter one, but it was made up just to be the longst word, and isn't recognised in the Oxford English Dictionary.

I think the one I posted is 37-letters.

I read a newspaper article concerning some website noting the most often used words in the English language.

The least often used word, #86,600 was conquistador. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

It does not seem that the internet buys it.

In fact, the longest word in the English language is a highly specialized, proper noun containing well in excess of 750 letters. It is the proper chemical name for any given strand of DNA.

750 characters? Imagine writing that often in a science paper http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Guiness still says no to them though.
