I don't like Japan. I hope I never have to go there. If I could hang out in any country, I'd be in Australia.

As Technically inclined as Japan is, they are very traditional in their living.

when I was there, it was almost like a trip into the past a good 20 years.

Social satire (despite this one being outrageously stupid and obvious... I hope) is lost on some people.

I wonder if it can be gained?

Yeah, by the freaking way, Japan is not the best country in the world. There is no best country in the world.

Every country has an interresting culture. Japan just happens to have been a country (or warring grouping of factions claiming to be a country) longer than most. I admit, Japan does fascinate me. I mean, they went from being completely destroyed just 60 years ago, to being the number two economy in the world. That alone interests me as economics fascinates me. But, the same can be said for Germany, Russia, Britain, Australia...

I suppose though, everyone is fascinated about the unknown. Which always brings the, "OMGZ THAT COUNTRY IS SO MUCH COOLER THAN MY COUNTRY". Sometimes people don't bother to look around at what their own country, state/province/equivilant, city, has to offer. Look around more and you will always see something to fascinate you.

EDIT: An example of this is this Japanese fellow I met a couple years back. He was over in Destin, Florida as part of an exchange program. So, he came to the school I went to and told us a bit about himself, Japan, and the United States. For him, he was most fascinated by our highways. Very few toll roads, almost all 'free' to drive on and you could go anywhere you wanted. Back in Japan he said there were toll roads everywhere and travel was very difficult. And, I having grown up here in the US, had never given that much thought. Goes to show, everyone can find something about a place that others will take for granted.

Strange girl at work who popped in a J-Pop CD talking to my boss while cleaning up: "Japanese people are soo cool!

I thought to myself: "I'm Japanese, I'm not cool. What a wacko. http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_nono.gif "

More fun if its from Japan it makes money, response to somebody pissed off at Hamtaro:
<Hayabusa> Talking hamsters. Funzo!
<Hayabusa->From japan, good, more kids will eat it up!
<Hayabusa->millions in profits?!

Japanese developers are GODS?!LOL01010101 ORLY?:
<Hayabusa-> Don't you just love it when the Japanese dvelopers say "this is definetely the last one in the series" or the last "they will do"
<Hayabusa-> then they see the sales figures and do a whole bunch more.

Talking to nobody in particular and garnering no response whatsoever!:
<Hayabusa-> Wow, guy decides to name himself after a Japanese food:
<Hayabusa-> http://www.pso-world.com/user.php?op=userinfo&uname=Tonkatsu

Then some taken out of context "fun" w/Eclair:
<Kuea> <Hayabusa-> And Japanese guys as a rule are horny.
<Kuea> <Hayabusa-> I know, since its part of Japan I know about, without trying to. ._.
<Kuea> <Kuea> the part of japan you know about is horny guys?
<Hayabusa-> Hey man,
<Hayabusa-> Private messages lame-o.
<Hayabusa-> Man.
<Hayabusa-> Last time I ever talk, about this stuff, in any magnitude.

Yeah. If Japan is sool cool to you people, why aren't I cool?! I'm like the angriest person in the universe, not the coolest! http://pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif

Japan . . .
No natural resources.
No way to feed its own population by itself.
Imports most resources and food than it can create.
No an innovator, more like an enhancer in technology.
Extremely biased (makes sense since its population is about 93 percent Japanese the rest are foreigners.)
No female rights.

=====
good food
good anime
good games
and they have have that mysticism about Japanese women.

But if there was a holocaust, I would rather be in Australia, one of the few continents that could be selfsustained.

Politics
Religion
and opinions about the two.
